Hmmm.....

There'll be a response from Maloney saying there's been no offer.

Not really a surprise to be honest. I'm sure Maloney will probably say options or other clauses were included in the 100k offer, as on the face of it that's big money for a fight Price would be favoured to win.

So how does the purse bids process work? Surely if Meaty Mick wanted to put the fight on C5, all he'd need to do is win the purse bids? If he's prepared to offer Price £100k, then why doesn't he attempt to win the purse bids, or is it simply that he doesn't think he can outbid Maloney for the BBBC mandated defence of his title?

No 7 in the world? According to who?

This ratchets up the pressure on Tyson to be fighting for a world title in quick time, as any other route can only be described as avoidance of David Price. So what will the route to World Champion be considering that he needs to get past either Wlad or Vitali (unless they lose to either Del boy or Mormeck!?!). Can't see Tyson v Wlad/Vitali on C5 anytime in the near future.

Agreed .

Although if they weigh it up then surely they would realise that its an even easier fight now to grab the british title , so Price can get the belt and still say Fury avoided him , likewise fury will say he never LOST his title

I see you point but you would have thought the opportunity to beat Fury live on terrestrial TV would do wonders for Price's profile.

The purse is split 60/40 in favour of the Champ.
For the challenger to receive £100k that would take a purse bid of £250k.
On the face of it, Hennessey should have no competitors - that is huge for a British Title.
It has to be options that Hennessey wanted on Price if he won.
I'm sure Little Frank will let us have his version in due course.
Problem is everyone will now say he's avoided Price like the plague.
So who fights for the vacant title ?
Damian - EU title is no step up.
EU is a lesser title than EBU.
I know you've mentioned this Towers rumour before. I just can't see it mate.

Damian,
Richard is definitely saying his fight 24th March is for EU title, so no way it's Fury.

Is it too simplistic a view to take that Tyson and Mick will do anything it takes to avoid being knocked senseless by Price in front of a sizeable audience on C5, thereby ending Fury's exciting run and Big Mick's future with C5?

Modern boxing just continues to shoot itself in the foot when someone dumps the British title like that. I mean, did the HS Press dude honestly expect to post that statement and for people to just shrug their shoulders and say 'oh well fair enough, he is ranked number 7 in the world'?

We want to see the Price fight and it seems like they'll do anything to avoid it. What a shame

exactly, if Hennessy lost the purse bid I could understand it, this just seems like a cop out to me, everyone predicted he would vacate rather than face Price, unfortunately it's turned out to be true.

This, 100%.

I do find it hard to believe that Frank M would turn down 100k...

If it was a flat £100k I would totally agree...surely Fat Mick must have had an option or two attached to that £100k. Why would he pay David Price £100k to knock out his boy and in the process kiss goodbye to his C5 deal?

Let's face it, as soon as David Price beat McDermott it was only a matter of time before Tyson Fury vacated the British & Commonwealth titles.

Fury vacates titles - I am sure nobody saw that coming ..........

This is a fight I would like to see - but its not exactly something that can be built up beyond this country to be a worldwide blockbuster.

For the record I think that Fury wants to fight Price and that Price wants to fight Fury - it is just the politics of this sport that are bollox.

I have said before, I hate it when one party reveals part details of a purse offer - they should either reveal the full details or none at all.

Well we can't say we didn't see this coming.

I'd expect Price to now pick up the titles and sit at the top of the tree in the UK, hopefully looking great in the process.

Fury's day is coming soon, lets see who his next fight is against, then we can really see how bad this duck is. 100k? All smoke and mirrors.

I agree with the first bit, but not the second bit !

This could actually set Price back.

Over the next 2 years he will pick up the British / Commonwealth titles and have 4 or 5 fights against lesser domestic opposition ("I can only beat who is in front of me" blah blah blah), and then the next move depends on whether the Klitchkos are still knocking around.

In an ideal world I would like to see him fight Fury, and whoever wins uses it as a springboard to move up a level.
