I was convinced Howard Eastman would prove to be an elite fighter and thought he’d dominate Hopkins.

Adrian Dodson, perhaps one of those guys who was amazing on top, but when things got tough he didn't really have it upstairs.

Thought Matthysee had a chance vs Garcia and Pacquiao
Thought Khan at one time was the best guy at 140 right when he fought Garcia.
Thought Paddy Barnes would win a world title.

I think a lot of us were wrong about Lewis Ritson.
That streak he had leading up to Patera, definitely caught my attention. Then losing to Patera, it could have been an off night except as the fight went on it wasn't an off night or lack of training. It was Ritson showing he didn't have any answers.
So he was young and keen enough to learn and come back.
And he did come back, until one of Eddie's unheard-of South Americans showed us that Ritson was gonna be a domestic fighter. Albeit an entertaining one that I will watch.

and of course so many wrong on big dave price, who was hyped to the stars

haye gots tons of hw hype too, granted he still had some good wins, but not really up to what ppl were suggesting he'd be

I was wrong about Audley. Seeing him rip through decent fighters in the 2000 Olympics made me think he was a lock for a world title.

It still may well have come true if David Haye hadn’t landed a lucky punch. 😂

The thing with Haye way, he only went up to HW for the Klits.

He fought some ranked opponents, dominating and then that one fight that mattered, fell to pieces.

Then he dominated a more or less prime Chisora.

His HW performances weren't all bad.

He was stream-rolling through the domestic level guys.. Moved to 140 and got found out.

A few recent Brits have been found out at Euro level recently.

This is the fault of the hype train, being a solid British champion is a hell of an achievment, but because of hype, if being British champion is their level they are a failure.

Ritson was an extremely dominant British lightweight champ. Didn’t he win it outright and from memory absolutely bowled guys out of there. Not just knocking them out but doing it early.

Possibly he was a weight bully but he also couldn’t take it to the body at all. Any half decent aimed body shot and he was buggered.

I don't think so Ruthie.
Patera fought him at lightweight and won. Then he moved to SLW, had 2 warmups and got stopped late by Ponce.
The 3 early blast outs at LW were eye openers, that really caught the attention of our B&I forum crew. But I really don't think it was weight bullying. Ritson carrys power especially early. It just took Patera to out box him on the back foot, to show that Ritson didn't have any plan B.
Heck, I don't mind at all that he has lost when he steps up. Still a highly enjoyable fighter to watch, always comes in fit, works and trains hard, and is a real handful for up and coming British SLW's. Making an excellent test and fan friendly fights.
If I worried about guys I support losing, I would have kicked Del Boy to the curb 10 years ago :lol:

That's true, and I wish people properly respected the British belt by not automatically expecting British champions to move up within a few fights.

Having said that though - Ritson's run at British level was TKO7 TKO1 TKO2 TKO1 against decent oppo - you can see how we got excited!
