Can't understand channel 5 getting behind Hughie. Have they not watched any of his fights?

What's wrong with them? I enjoyed them.

We need more BBC/ITV/5 to show boxing. Get it back to being the sport it used to be. Regardless of Matchroom/Sky doing well.

Hennessy has kind of always been on 5..

We don't need Hughie Fury on TV mate. Casuals will have changed the channel before the first round is over.

Surely it's just a decision that's been made on the basis that it's cheap to get the broadcasting rights? Channel Five aren't really 'behind him' on the basis that they're looking at a long term deal; they're just looking at it from the point of view that it'll do bigger numbers than a repeat of Worlds Worst Tractor Crashes.

Apart from 2012 when he got schooled twice? Maybe Klitschko will run it close but that’s down to Wlads name.

After the first round it would do well to do bigger ratings than a PPV featuring a tortoise running 100 meters. The casuals won't want to go near Hughie "Paint Drying" Fury and many will be turned off boxing by the snoozer. They already classified Hughie vs Parker as torture under the Geneva Convention.

What you in about?

This fight will not do bigger numbers on channel 5 than AJ has done in any of his last 5 fights.

How many brought the parker fight? Hughie doesn't sell because he is a boring fighter, losing to Parker won't suddenly bring in fans on channel 5.

It will do far less views than the Klitschko fight. That just under 1m buys so UK viewers would be c.2m, which Hughie won’t get near to tonight. It also doesn’t include overseas viewers.

Why take this thread to discussions of AJ?

It will do well. Get the official ratings up next week, we will see. Dork obviously won’t, he’s terrified of stats after CP exposed his stalking.

Please list Sky ppv official figures for his last five fights. I genuinely don’t know them. I’m guessing you work for Sky?

Groves vs. Gutknecht on Channel 5 averaged 780,000 and that was on a Friday. Hughie is no bigger than Groves. I dontt usually watch anything on 5, so I can't comment on how much they've promoted the bout.

Channel 5 struggle to get over 1m viewers (with the exception of Big Brother) consistently. They’d have less than 10 shows a week doing in excess of 1m viewers so the fight tonight will struggle to get close to the number of buyers (not viewers) of the last few AJ cards.

Eurovision will ruin the viewing figures...

Anyway, I like Sexton but Hughie is a class above. I hope Sexton comes with genuine ambition. Sometimes he goes through the motions and he’s probably past his best.

I think it could - in the sense that terrestrial figures for fights are often dramatically higher than on platforms like Sky and BT, purely because it's free and anyone with a TV has access. There will be plenty of people who still sit down on a Saturday night and look towards the main terrestrial channels for something to watch.

Mick's point is obviously skewed because he'll use this to somehow suggest Hughie is more popular than Joshua which of course is laughable.

It will need to do over 2m viewers to beat the Klitschko fight - it 100% won’t as that would make it the most watched show of the last few weeks.

Tyson did some decent viewer numbers on ch5 a few years back. He had well over 1m a couple of times which is good for ch5.

Groves has a much larger appeal than Hughie.

I had totally forgot this fight was even on until today. That is how poorly it is promoted.
