And for the original question of the thread...

If Fury had a pussy instead of dick and only weighted 134 pounds and beat Katie Taylor would she then be the best british female boxer of all the time?

Wlad had spent the last ten years beating boxers from outside using speed, reach advantage and superior boxing skills. He eliminated all infighting by clinching if the opponent got close.

Suddenly he was in a ring with guy who had even bigger reach and speed than him. He was being outboxed in hes own game. He was not able to make adjustments on the fly and lost the match.

I never would have thought that Fury was capable of boxing full 12 rounds with that game plan. But he did. The win was great and deserves much more respect than AJ's win over Wlad few years later.

I still think that Wlad would have won the rematch if that ever happened.

Yes he was doing really well up until the last line :D Personally I think Wlad had a better chance of winning the rematch against Joshua than Fury, not to say I would have expected him to beat AJ.

Didn't Fury only win because Wlad had grown complacent and took Fury lightly? No. That may have been a contributing factor, there's no doubt even after 18 months inactivity Wlad was in the best physical shape and the best motivated he'd been in ages against Joshua, but it's more a matter of styles ...

Wlad is not a natural, he is/was largely manufactured (by Steward). Being so tall he was able to sway back out of range of shorter opponents and use his size and physical strength to wrap them up or wrestle them at close quarters, and use his greater manoeuvrability to keep danger out of range.

Against Fury he was shorter, less agile and not even the stronger so none of his normal tactics were effective. Even his advantage in punching power was ineffective because Fury wouldn't keep still long enough for Wlad to ser himself, which is why it was that Wlad wasn't letting his hands go and throwing enough punches.

Wlad isn't the most adaptable of boxers and at 39 I really don't think he would have found a solution to beating Fury in the rematch .

P.s. Heretic: Are you quite sure he's gone? ;-)

This exactly :TU:

Well apart from the rematch

The reason why I think that Wlad would have done better in the rematch... I think that part of Fury's success was because he was able to surprise Wlad. Wlad realized too late that hes normal style won't work against Tyson. He tried to go on the offensive in round 12 but it was too late.

With the lessons learned from fight number one and few months of hard sparring to drill in different approach I think Wlads superior boxing skills and power would have won the rematch.

This was the one odd fight where pre Steward Wlad would have done better than the polished jab and grab boxer he was molded into.

Maybe but I figure old dogs aren't good at learning new tricks. As regards who would have won the rematch, The only thing we can be certain of now, is that now we can never be certain.

You're ok. Being a self confessed heretic you're used to living dangerously, but it's a serious crime with serious punishments. In the middle ages the poor buggers got given burnt steak or something. How cruel is that? :verysad:

Well I have to admit that the old dog thing is a... thing. Would have been intriguing match. The K brothers just have no luck with rematches

Very cruel indeed. I also heard about forced swimming lessons. Just think about that one. People didn't even bathe at those times and most of the rivers were dirty like sewers :oo

Not in the top 20.

That was pretty funny and not without an element of truth. Marciano was quite a fighter but his undefeated record is flattering and I very much doubt he beats Louis prime for prime.
I'm pretty sure Rocky said the same himself. What I will credit him for is his incredible toughness, and for his size, his incredible punchpower. The hook he hit Walcott with would have felled a small tree.

Ah, okay... Lewis beat Vitali and would beat Joshua every day of the week and twice on Sunday so Lewis should be top in your list...
No, Lewis did not beat Vitali, Vitali was ahead on all scorecards and was very very lucky the fight was stopped because of a few lucky cuts. Vitali was sitting on his chair, waiting for the next round to happen and the crowd cheered him despite the fight happened at a location Lewis was more popular. Out of a 100 fights, Lewis would win one or two and that's exactly what happened. Cowardish like Lewis is, he only wanted a rematch for over a 100 milion dollar (at that time!) from the Ukrainian (poor country) who obviously couldn't afford that. The only reason Lewis did that is because he knew he was very very very lucky to not have lost that match only on the scorecards. Byrd ain't the better boxer either and neither is Hasim Rahman (who got KOed by Povetkin in 2 rounds) and others who KOed Lewis.
Oh, hahaha, sure... You better get boxrec to update the result then.
The stupid is strong with this one....

You'd think that the cuts just opened up spontaneously.

Lewis was going to muller him anyway, he'd taken everything Vitali could muster and literally walked through it, and was starting to bash him up good and proper.

Well, maybe you should watch the fight, then you can see that Vitali schooled this guy and that's also why Lewis retired so early in his carreer, because he knew he would have lost terribly otherwise.
After 44 fights and at 38 years old, yes, that’s ‘early’.

I’ve seen the fight and I’m not going to get drawn into yet another discussion on the legitimacy of the outcome...

For sure. It's a pity he didn't stick around to see if he could do the same to Patterson. Real bull v matador stuff. Even more appealing would have been a late fifties Marciano v Liston fight.

Maybe Liston wasn't ready by the time Marciano hung them up or maybe ... no I was going to suggest maybe Liston coming up on the rails helped The Rock to make his decision, but that thought is unsubstantiated and disrespectful. Shame on me.
