Personally I'd never emigrate, because all my friends and family are here, why would I want to be on the otherside of the world on my tod? Britain's got its faults, but it remains the greatest country on the Planet. RULE BRITANIA!!

West Ham's New Signing
Alan Curbishley flies to Baghdad to watch a young Iraqi play Football and is suitably impressed and arranges for him to come over to play.
Two weeks later the Hammers are 4-0 down to Derby with only 20 minutes left. The manager gives the young Iraqi striker the nod and on he goes.
The lad is a sensation - scores 5 goals in 20 minutes and wins the game for West Ham! The fans are delighted, the players and coaches are delighted and the media love the new star.
When the player comes off the pitch he phones his mum to tell her about his first day in English football.
"Hello mum, guess what?" he says in an Iraqi accent. "I played for 20 minutes today, we were 4-0 down but I scored 5 and we won. Everybody loves me, the fans, the media, they all love me."
" Wonderful," says his mum, "Let me tell you about my day.
Your father got shot in the street and robbed, your sister and I were ambushed, gang raped and beaten and your brother has joined a gang of looters, and all while you were having such great time."
The young lad is very upset, "What can I say mum, but I'm so sorry."
"Sorry?!!! Sorry?!!!" says his mum, "It's your fookin fault we moved to London in the first place!"
I would rather trade apprenticships were reserved for those that pass O Levels.jamesmcdonnell wrote:Why not, if you're in the UK you can claim money in the European Union can't you?Twinkle Toes wrote:People have talked about emigrating for as long as I can remember - It certainly is not something that has suddenly become fashionable.
Due to how much easier it is now, I guess more people are 'actually' getting out there and doing it instead of talking about it.
I know one thing is certain - The People that are emigrating from the Uk are not doing so to go and leech of another countrys benefit system. ;)
As for there being no police, that is a nonsense. I've had recourse to use the services of the police in recent times, and whilst not always a bastion of efficiency they were absolutely priceless when my mother had Alzheimers
The problems this country have stem from the following.
The erosion of our manufacturing industry which is something which has been going on for decades, which has robbed our youth of decent trade and a sense of purpose, replacing them instead with 'McJobs' in the service industry. An underclass is required for our society to function, it's as simple as that.
At the same time, the ushering in of free market economics, has allowed a section of the skilled classes to make totally unprecedented amounts of money. Couple this with the burgeoning housing market, and you have an unprecedented situation of haves and have nots, a tinderbox waiting to be ignited which is creating most of the problems we have now, as uneducated, undermotivated unemployed yobs form themselves into gangs of the dissafected
It was a lot easier 50 years ago, people lived in simpler times, and were more grateful for what they had. A roof over their head, food on the table, and a steady job made you a man, not a brand new car, the latest plasma screen, 90 quid trainers and a 50 cent baseball cap which costs 30 quid. The cult of consumption has gone mad, and why wouldn't it when free market economics and a society built on insanse levels of consumption is what we exist in.
The sense of a society, a community, a common weal for which we all strive is gone. How many people know or talk to their neighbours in the inner cities, unless it's to scream abuse or complain about music being played loudly? It's all about the self, the family, moving on, moving up, pimping your life and screw everyone else. Our inner cities are fast becoming a combination of deprived ghettos full of non educated unemployed yobbos, and rich homeowners, and those living in gated communities. As soon as they can, people move out of the city centre, buy a place in the burbs, and help perpetuate the cycle.
KO, as for apprenticeships, what would you rather, that people who fail their exams were just left to their own devices, or trained for gainful employment, your argument makes no sense. The kids who pass are incentivised with univeristy places and the chance of a decent job when they graduate relatively speaking compared to those who dont.
It is the poorest members of our society which require the most aid. Fine, you can say 'balls to them, the cream rises to the top' but if you take that attitude, then you'd better prepare to turn the entire country into one big jail, because you are going to have one hell of a crime wave.
I've decided I'm going to try and make a difference, I'm signing up for a youth mentoring programme ASAP. I'm planting my flag, join me!
