It's amazing Seb Coe still has the second fasted time ever in the 800 meters. I do in no way think he was juicing, his father was an amazing trainer and sports scientist, who revolutionised athletics.

i agree that coe was clean as a whistle.

he was a genuine great talent.

one of the best kick finishers in history that man.

Never realised Coe was half indian, was just reading about him.

wE use to run at Battersea track Seb and Peter Coe were always down there Seb being a Fan was always talking to the Lads I always talked to His Dad Peter. He knew his stuff. One of the things that impressed me was when He did 200 metre Shuttles. Every 200 metres with double the rest and usually there were 12 were done in 22 seconds every time.

He's up there. One or two other contenders mind.

Colin Jackson, Paula Ratcliffe, Liz McGolgan, Steve Backley, Steve Jones - all world record Holders who never got the gold. Jackson I think is still the third fastest man over 110 metres hurdles which shows what a remarkable athlete he was.

Thompson gave one of my favourite sporting anecdotes a while back in an interview I read with him with gave a good insight into the mind of a top sportsman.

He told of his German rival at the time (name evades me) who Daley usually beat and how he had learned that on Xmas day the German only trained in the morning. So on Xmas day Daley trained in the morning and afternoon and felt that gave him an important edge - mentally more than anything but any edge at that level is what counts.

I'm sure they had him as a pundit on television a few years ago but like all the best ones you couldn't trust him not to say something too controversial

Yeah, Thompson was a character. I think the T shirt questioned the sexuality of Lewis "Is the world's second best athlete gay?".

Frig me, Asafa Powell went off like a rocket, he was thundering along the track like a man possessed, I think his split was 9.27! Even with a running start, that's some serious motoring!

All of them were incredibly impressive, .2 off the old world record is incredible!

The Jamaicans are officially the kings of sprinting!

If it was its slightly disapointing, he did sub-9 last year

Carl Lewis ran 8.9 on the final leg in the 92 Olympics

Got to take these splits with a pinch of salt though

These Olympics will be defined by Phelp's and Bolt's achievements.

But 3 gold medals and 3 world records in the sprints of track and field is more significant to me. Phelp's achievement, whilst amazing in itself, wasn't entirely unexpected. What Bolt did, with the assistance of his teammates in the 3rd of his golds, has taken the sport to a completely new level imo.

I think Phelps edges it, what he has done is the equivalent to Bolt also winning the 400m, 400m relay, 110m hurdles, and the long jump

Unless there is some sort of totally objective way we can contrast the worth and difficulty of each event?.
