OT- 100m spoiler
Did you see that!!!!!!
Never seen anything like it, Usain Bolt just detroyed them, that was one of those sporting moments where you just don't quite know what you've seen.
He wasn't even running flat out in the last 10 metres, looking into the crowd.
Completly mad

Re: OT- 100m spoiler
Unbelievable race. I always love watching the sprinting and that was by far the most impressive individual run Iv seen (ok Im not that old but still.)
Also nice to see us picking up a lot of medals today. We always knew we would be picking up medals in the cycling left right and center but in swimming if youd have told me we would have Gold medallists Id have laughed at you.
Every Olympics the mens coxless 4s is always a must see too.

What an incredible athlete.
A real hairs on the back of neck moment. This guy is capable of taking the world record into the 9.5 s I'm sure. I reckon Michael Johnson's unbelieveable 200 metre record will be under serious threat too.
A real sporting moment to remember.

Re: OT- 100m spoiler
That was surreal, even when he was taking his foot off the gas, he still seemed to be running at top speed.
I think too he will get under 10.6, amazing.
If he beats Johnsons record, that will be even more amazing, because Johnson absolutely smashed Pietro Minea's record, and that record was set at altitude, and nobody got near to breaking it before Johnson.
Bolt is a bit like Tommy Hearns, a physical freak who shouldn't be able to do what he does. Since when do 6'5 guys become 100 meter runners, he has both a huge stride length, and incredible leg turnover speed, it's just not fair on the others, they don't have a chance.
Bolt could probably fall over, get up, and still win!

Disapointed he coasted would have been nice to see it smashed. Disapointed in Powell too. I can always see the grey lining in the silverist of clouds
Re: OT- 100m spoiler
He absolutely shattered the entire field dint he, great performance, just a shame he coasted the last 10m cos he could have edged abit more time off that record, oh well im certain he'll do that in the future.
Re: OT- 100m spoiler
The 100m final is the Olympics to me and everything else is just window dressing.
That was amazing. No-one has dominated a sprint race like that since Michael Johnson. I thought it was a shame that he hadn't run through the line at first but reconsidered.
The Olympics is about the medals and the fact he stopped racing at about 80m added to the jawdroppingness of his feat and will make anticipation of seeing him running it again soon even greater as it appears a sub 9.6 time is in him.
There'll be big money on the circuit for him to take a few attempts at it after the games, fingers crossed he might be tempted to Gateshead at the end of the month.

If he's clean, for how long will everyone else be? And if he's found not to be, this would be bigger than Ben Johnson.
As it is, that was incredible sprinting.

Amazing stuff, the 100m final is close to a superfight in terms of the drama, build up and sudden ending you can get, all inside 10 seconds.
That was unreal, Bolt seems to have come from another planet. Poor old Asafa Powell, the fastest man on the planet for a long time, but crumbled under the Olympic pressure last time, when he should have won it. But this time, he never stood a chance.

Re: OT- 100m spoiler
I did think the same when I watched the replay, it was like he was a different species, or some sort of superhuman.
I cannot think of another instance where a 100 meter sprinter has been so clearly miles ahead of his nearest rivals.
Michael Johnson was at 200 and 400, but the margins he is winning by at 100 are unprecedented. He beat his nearest competitor by by nearly 3 meters, which is approaching .3 of a second. Remarkable stuff.

Re: OT- 100m spoiler
That race was fornicating nuts. I sincerely hope Bolt is clean, because that was one of the most amazing things I've ever seen, regardless of the sport.
I really think Johnson's 200m record of 19:32 is under threat. Which is amazing, because I didn't think that'd be beaten in my lifetime.
Unbelievable stuff. I'm glad I was able to watch it.

Re: OT- 100m spoiler
He'll smash Johnson's 200m record is my prediction. I thought that when he last ran over here in Britain a sort while ago. He put in an unbelievably fast time, and he only "ran" about 150m, and lightly jogged in for the last 50.

Re: OT- 100m spoiler
Did anyone see Michael Johnsons reactions when he was watching the race?
For me that showed we all watched something special, Johnson has won everything, and he was beside himself watching Bolt today, he turned to Jackson and didn't quite know what to say.
As for Bolt being 'clean'? i have no doubt he is, you just don't do that kind of thing if you've cheated. that cheek when 10 metres from the line was just a celebration of talent for me, he's just one of the most talented athletes out there.
made everyone in the world smile watching it, thats special

Jamaica has a truly phenomenal record for producing sprinters when you consider it has a population of just over 2m. It's produced guys like Powell and Bolt, not to mention those of sprinters of Jamaican decent like Linford Christie and Ben Johnson.

Re: OT- 100m spoiler
Yeah I hope he’s clean. I feel pretty confident that he is simply because he hasn’t the the type of muscle mass that you associate with unclean athletes in that event – but I’m no authority on that subject.
Johnson’s reactions tells you everything you need to know about how significant that performance was. The great man himself said he had never seen anything like it before. A genuine modern Bob Beamon moment for me. To think the guy’s only 21 years old. Absolutely incredible.
If he stays healthy he could take the 100 metre record down to levels that could stand for decades. He could perhaps do the same with the 200 metre record too and that’s not even mentioning what he may be able to do at 400 metres after he’s done with the shorter distances.
One thing's for sure, we have witnessed the beginning of something that is absolutely incredible that will only get better.

Re: OT- 100m spoiler
Its funny how things change isn't it.
When Johnson was running, they asked him 'why do you run with that choopy stride, if you lengthened your stride, who knows how fast you can run?'
Johnson's reply was classic.
"If I ran that way, I'd be back there with the rest of them guys."
Bolt is going to change the makeup of sprinters, there's going to be a lot of big tall gangly guys who suddenly thihnk they can make it as a sprinter. The coaches are going to have to tear up the manuals as well.

I think it's brilliant. Happens in boxing all the time. The rules are thrown out and new styles emerge. Look at the amateur game now, and look at the top pros. Same with tennis and Federer. He does unorthodox things.jamesmcdonnell wrote:Its funny how things change isn't it.

Re: OT- 100m spoiler
i have followed sprinting at the olympics for many years, right back to valerie bortzof many years ago. i remember the thrill of watching alan 'whipper' wells win olympic gold. then the christie years too, colin jackson in the 110 over hurdles, i loved john regis in the 200 and the likes of black, redmond and akabusi in the 400 flat and hurdles.
but bolt...bloody hell, i have never seen anything like it, i felt privaliged to have watched it, and im sure he can do 9.5 something over the next 4 years....
