When I watched an interview years ago by Jamie Moore he seemed very unwell, but read one in BN more recently, he has dementia iirc the pugilistic one they speak of (I think), and has a partner who cares for him a lot. I'd like to hear one with him, if he is well enough.

I saw him interviewed for one of his boys fights, well after the Moore interview and he was half ok, in the Moore interview he was medicated to high heaven

allegedly said he did ok and managed to buy a house as Frank wanted him to invest some of his money for later life. I'm genuinely really sad to see this. That Alex Arthur fight was pure insanity and I thought he was going to get to Khan in their fight too. He was a wild man with a big heart in the ring. He was going to have a motion picture made about him too but the plug got pulled. Andy Sugden from Emmerdale was playing Michael Jennings

I remember the movie as it was mentioned a lot. Gomez did well when he had Kerry Kayes sorting his diet. I know Kayes a bit and Kayes had him do the weight properly for the Arthur fight, did it like a bodybuilder in terms of weightloss so he was not starving himself, and was not dehydrated to make weight. That was the best we ever saw him as Gomez unfolded after that.

That video is his son Jnr being interviewed, his dad Michael Gomez Snr is 46 now and wasn't in great shape the last video I saw of him. I think he was diagnosed with dementia type symptoms a few years ago and was being cared for by his wife.
That was over 8 years ago, a lot can change. I can’t find the video I saw a few years back but he was slurring quite bad

I just listened to the most recent one with Eric Donovan which was good. It sounds like Tris might be putting an end to these podcasts for a while, he ended last one saying possibly the end of them, one more to go with Calzaghe but others will be on Patreon and it won’t be a weekly thing. Also looking for more sponsors.

Yeh, heard that as well. Hopefully just a hiatus rather than coming to an end, as that would be a great shame. Either way it’s a phenomenal body of work that will stand the test of time.
I still haven’t got round to checking out the ringside rewind stuff so will use that to plug the gap!

Ringside Rewind is ok, quite light hearted and some interesting insight from Rawling and Darke albeit they do tend to repeat the same stories over the episodes.

I'd like:
- Esham Pickering (classy boxer, fought for a world title)
- Dec Spelman (English title win, tragic fight with the gent who passed away, cruel end to his own career, now a trainer)
- Lee Swaby (my early favourite pro, good Cruiser before stepping up to HW and fighting some big names)
- Bobby Vanzie (did a lot of comms when he retired then disappeared)
- Carl Wild (para then pro)
- Buster Keeton (good cruiser, lots of sparring tales from Ingle gym)
- David Avenasyan (such an interesting life to end up training in my neck of the woods)
- Matt Legg (good am, interestinng life outside of it, fought AJ and Toney as a pro)
- Dominic Negus (enough stories for a long podcast, still fighting now in BKB)

It does sound like Tris is knocking it on the head, I listened to the last one which is the 250th episode (Calzaghe). He then ends the Calzaghe chat with a 20 minute chat with his sponsors talking about the podcast and finishes saying "over and out" and thanks everyone for listening over the years. He did mention earlier he would still do them but far less frequent and they will go onto Patreon which you have to pay for.

Just got the latest Calzaghe one to listen to. I can remember in the previous JC one Joe started choking up about his dad, I was driving to work listening to it at the time and was almost in tears myself. Very emotional moment from Joe and there have been a lot of really good moments over the Boxing Life Stories series. If it doesn't get Tris in the IBHOF then something seriously wrong.

And Andries is definitely worthy of more attention - 3 x WBC champ for same weight category - has anyone else ever done that?

Tris is genuine isn't he, have you read his book about where he is travelling across America sparring - it's fantastic. I've got it if not, happy to post it (if you're in UK). That and Bunce's book on British boxing are must reads for me.

No he seems to juggle various things and said the podcast is quite time consuming as he does it all himself. A shame though, hardly seems worth signing up to and paying for Patreon if he is doing less of them
