It's like Heat magazine on this thread. Who gives a toss about the state of Amir Khan's marriage?

Re: Amir Khan's wife on the in-laws
It looked like a rhetorical question to me you fornicating moron - do you know what 'rhetorical question' means? Probably not, go and look up the definition, and you aren't in a much better position to comment, seeing as neither of us are Muslim women.Rob3_142 wrote: What are you going on about? What rhetorical question? I asked you what you knew about what Muslim women go through, and you so eloquently responded with 'More than you pal'. You qualified your experience, and I qualified mine, and I am in a much better position to comment.
What you thought I was going to say was 'Oh no, I know nothing about women in Islamic communities' but I do, so...
The question makes no sense - so it's nonsense. How is the question nonsensical? I'm asking what do you think would happen if.. You're just being difficult.
What do you think would have happened if she decided she wanted to marry a white Christian man? (About what?) What do you think would have happened if she decided to marry another woman? (Eh?) Cause apparently she can't even dress as she wishes. (What the fornicate are you going on about?)
Yeah, but she is exercising free will - because she has refused to wear the offending garment, so in this particular case, her 'free will' has not been compromised - which is what's annoying the Khan's - because she is not kow-towing to them. The main problem with your argument, which I and a few others have already highlighted, and you seem inclined to ignore, and that is free will. The free will you enjoy in your life, is not the same free will that a Muslim woman enjoys in hers. When your parents and in-laws start banding the words 'disgrace' and 'shame' about, and begin to emotionally blackmail you to do as your told, that wonderful free will starts to wither away.
The other argument could be made that she might not have an overall problem with wearing certain Islamic clothing, I mean, when she visits a mosque, she will wear something to cover her head, and a shawl to cover bare arms etc. She just doesn't want to be told what to do - she is still a Muslim who prays - she just doesn't like to be ordered about - what has that got to do with the wrongs of Islam - nothing.
No, it's not a British cultural value - I have already told you it's not.So are they, or are they not British values?
So, if it took until 1976 to implement that value, it's not a cultural value that is specifically British,Cause I'm assuming we're living in 2016, and not in 1976?
But it isn't irrelevant - what a stupid thing to say.Much of British culture is derived from Western values, and although it does not always work as intended, in principle, there is equality. Men and women are treated equally. People from different ethnic persuasions are treated equally. Whether or not we derived our values from other countries is irrelevant, it's what being British means now.
It isn't a British value if it can be found in other places. How can you lay claim on something and make something culturally distinct such as anti-racism and anti-sexism if this can be found in lots of places (and not just the western world). The British have adopted these values but there is nothing instrinctically British about these values.
None of this is hard Rob, try and keep up.
The point you're making is nonsensical - all of it.You need to realise I am not arguing you on this, I completely agree. If you're looking to make arguments, for the sake of an argument (which genuinely feels like you are), then let me know, and I'll just stop responding.
I have been to ex-pat zones, and it is a joke, and I do not endorse them. However, Spanish and English do both still hold Western values, which in their nature are similar. That said, if a lad from an ex-pat zone wanted to marry a Spanish girl, I don't know what problems it would propose.
Freedom of worship is a western value.
Telling your in-laws to do one, is a western value.
Going on 'Loose Women' to complain about said in-laws is another western value
I can't think of one thing Fayrool Khan is being denied regards her freedoms, the Khans have asked her dress more appropriately, she's refused. You would think grief from the in-laws is something that NEVER happens between Brits but in fact, it happens all the time - how very un-British of them.

Got in one!coneye wrote: THIS ....... tHIS IS THE PROBLEM WITH YOUR ARGUMENT ... Has from the above post , you are assuming that this woman , is a down trodden little muslim woman from the backwaters of Bradford , in an arranged marraige , to a boxer from Bolton , with no where to go and a familyy who will disown her if she leaves her husband , Hence has to putr up with bullying , beatings and all the rest of it .. and in that situation you would probably be correct .
But this woman is'nt , she's a modern muslim from middle class new york .. she's of Lebanese descent , not pakistani ,,, she's not down trodden and not in an arranged marraige , she will excercise her rights to leave at some time in the future and screw Amir for half his wealth .probably more ,,, she has been afforded freedom enoough that she can and does have plastic surgery , model , and have access to the press , something the downtrodden are not allowed ,,
The whole lot of bullshit she is coming out with is nothing to do with Islam ,, being a Muslim its all about repect , she married a guy who's parents have strict standards , and she has the freedom to not adhere to them and she uses it , she also has the fredom to run to newspapers and tv ,, Does that sound like a down trodden little waif from Bradford , who's been forced into a arranged marraige ,, I don't think so

Why do people whinge about him possibly losing half of his wealth in a divorce? He'd still be a multimillionaire.

Imagine you yourself have worked your ass off and built up wealth, then get married to some woman, it turns sour and she gets half of everything. Why? Because the law says so and people like you say 'so what'!!banjo wrote:Why do people whinge about him possibly losing half of his wealth in a divorce? He'd still be a multimillionaire.
If there's kids involved I can understand arrangements being made to see the kids right, but just giving half someone's wealth away (usually a man giving to a gold digging woman) as some kind of rule is just mentalism.

Re: Amir Khan's wife on the in-laws
Let's face it, she's obviously not having a good time, she's from a well heeled Lebanese family in manhattan, the Khan's all probably seem a bit thick (especially Amir) and provincial, so she's had enough, and is making a play for his money on the way out.
Re: Amir Khan's wife on the in-laws
Women should get something. “Half” sounds excessive, but nobody should be picked up and discarded like a used johnny. There are some a*seholes out there who don’t deserve to marry in the first place. Some women are gold diggers and some need financial settlement after a bona-fide divorce.TheCobra wrote:Imagine you yourself have worked your ass off and built up wealth, then get married to some woman, it turns sour and she gets half of everything. Supposing for instance that some rich exec marries a woman and keeps her as a housewife/ trophy wife....some men don’t want their wives to be self-sufficient. Now supposing after 3 or 4 years of her not earning, he decides to start putting his sausage in the secretary. He (or she) files for a divorce - and the good little wife is supposed to get nothing? How can that be right?
Good grief and I didn’t particularly want to attach my name to this waffle
Re: Amir Khan's wife on the in-laws
Does anybody really have a divine right to a lifestyle if they haven't themselves earnt it? We seem to put a lot of weight on the marriage thing, which is what has given rise to so many gold diggers.magwitch wrote:Women should get something. “Half” sounds excessive, but nobody should be picked up and discarded like a used johnny. Khan better not cheapskate on his solicitor team !
Re: Amir Khan's wife on the in-laws
Well a man marrying a wealthy woman I'm sure would end the same way. Of course, you don't hear much of that these days.TheCobra wrote:Imagine you yourself have worked your ass off and built up wealth, then get married to some woman, it turns sour and she gets half of everything. I don't see why more prenuptial agreements aren't signed? Surely if the marriage is for love, the financials are irrelevant. If the man is wealthy, the woman is going to be living a wealthy lifestyle anyway. Surely that'll just be an incentive to make the marriage work, than run away with half the booty!

I was wondering, let's say her dress sense is "unislamic" is a family all becoming wealthy of one of them knocking fack out of people also "unislamic"?.bripez wrote:I remember a few years ago when Shah was in the papers for nobbing some white woman from round the corner - the dirty shagger.TheCobra wrote:So many double standards here. They have no real right to tell her how to dress, but they do so anyway. I agree it's typical backward old-school Muslims with their oppression of women and hatred of modern day Western values, yet they're happy to take which parts of it suit them and the benefits of a modern lifestyle, including all the money they make off the back of Amir. Hypocrites.
I genuinely do not get the complete lack of self awareness of some people - a mate who used to train in the same gym had to leave the area to marry his white girlfriend.
His dad (who frequented the local pubs and liked the women) told him to marry a muslim girl but just keep shagging white girls on the side.
