A draw is a bit of a stinker it really was. Obviously the disgraceful card just rubs it in worse. Ffs if you're gonna be corrupt at least try be realistic with it. Can a professional judge be that inept?
Thinking of close fights...
Kovalev v ward 1 was closer than this
Golovkin v Jacobs was possibly closer.
Disappointed for golovkin I really am
i have to agree that these fights you mentioned were closer than it, in these fights Kovalev and GGG got the nod for scoring a KD and personally i had 115-112 both

Re-watch rounds 1 to 3 and 10 to 12 I think they can be scored for Canelo
He's right you know! ... all I had to do was take my glasses off.

I don't understand the criticism being directed at GGG and the comments that he "showed his age". GGG chased Canelo 3 minutes of every round and his pressure picked up every round. I was very surprised at Canelo's movement. He backed up every second of every one of the first 9 rounds. He picked up pace in 10th and that was the first round I gave him since the 3rd round and it was the last I gave him.
GGG fought a great fight and beat him way easier than I thought he would. Not one of Canelos punches had any effect on GGG. Canelo belongs at 154 tops unless he fights in Vegas. In Vegas he might as well fight heavyweight because he can't lose a decision there. Disgusting.

I agree caldo. Golovkin fought a good fight, he was the guvnor in there and bossed it

GGG didn't pressure hard enough in the last 3 rounds which made them very close and allowed judges to score them for Canelo. 2 years ago, that wouldn't happen.

The 10th round was by far the most action packed of the fight.

Yeah. Boxing is more show business than fairly officiated. Canelo is the 27 year old ppv star. GGG is 35 and doesn't draw nearly as well
So the judges gave us poop.
I felt GGG won 8-4. 7-4-1 or 7-5 if you give Canelo the close rounds would be okay.
GGG outlanded Canelo in 10 of the 12 rounds. You just can not justify a draw when that happens with no knockdowns.

Yes the scoring was worse. Decent fight though

Can't argue with a word of this.
It's embarrassing for the sport & embarrassing for Alvarez, even if he claims he won the fight.
I'd love Golovkin to tell Golden Boy to go **** themselves, but the money for a rematch would be too tempting for someone in his position to turn down.
The rematch needs to be away from Las Vegas (& Mexico too), because that's the only way Golovkin will get a decision against Alvarez.

I agreed with your post caldo but boxing rocks makes a good point. Overall though I thought Canelo looked like the older man, working in eye-catching bursts and taking care to save energy.

I watched it again with the sound off. i thought G won 7-5. If you were a huge G fan you would have had it 8-4 or even 9-3. It was a good fight. The judge with the 10-2 scorecard for Canelo took away from the accomplishment of both fighters.
They both fought good enough to earn another 10-15 million dollars each in the rematch.
GGG is clearly getting older and slower by the fight. I'd like to see him fight the rematch and retire. Canelo has a few more years left in him. He's only 27 years old.

I somewhat disagree. I scored round 1 for GGG, rounds 2 and 3 for Canelo. I scored round 11 for GGG, rounds 10 and 12 for Canelo. I felt that those four rounds were the only rounds that Canelo deserved to win, so GGG won 8 rounds to 4 on my scorecard.

Canelo was getting more fatigued as the fight went on. I'm not a biased GGG fan. I scored the fight 8-4 in GGG's favor. I think that was fair to both of them. The only rounds Canelo won on my scorecard was when he was a little busier than GGG.

OK... so I watched the fight again, this time, the Top Rank broadcast.
I tried to watch with an open mind... I tried to consider the outside influences (crowd), varying trains of thought... what have you.. and I can conclude the following:
Anyone who claims this was an easy fight to score is either biased toward one of the fighters, or fcking crazy.
Let's start with the rounds that I thought had an undeniable winner, the very few:
2,3 - Alvarez
6,7 - Golovkin
That's it. Golovkin probably had the most dominant RD in the fight (7).
The remainder of the rounds, I think you're stuck between how you weight punching (Alvarez) and ring generalship (Golovkin). In pretty much the remainder of the rounds, Alvarez fought intelligently and in furious bursts.. because he got gassed... he was landing the cleaner, flashier punches.... and you have Golovkin, scoring points based on ring generalship, with him not landing a great deal of clean *effective* punches. Yes, he landed plenty of jabs... which outweigh nothingness, but not much else.
The remainder..
1*,10,11,12 - Alvarez
4,5,8,9 - Golovkin
I included 9, only because of the massive right that Canelo landed about halfway through. Also, I'd classify 1 as a swing round... so close, it was basically 50/50. Given everything I said, only the WHOLE, you can certainly say Golovkin perhaps had a slight, slight overall edge on the fight.. maybe a 55/45 type of edge, in my opinion.
Having said all this, I obviously had the fight a draw. If I wussed out and scored the first even, I'd have had Golovkin 115-114.
Now, if you give all my surefire Alvarez rounds AND all the close rounds, you can end up with a Byrdish 118-110. I still can't understand how she gave Alvarez the 6th.. but hey, different strokes.

Oh how lame. Here come the boxing nerds to justify the score. If hardcore fans can justify the shit show, then Vegas will always win. Always.

at least I'm not seeing the usual 'what a war' from an average fight. GGG clearly won, canelo clearly ran, the fight was clearly average.

A couple of good rounds. GGG bossed the majority of it. Don't care to see a repeat of the fight nor people trying to justify another bad score. Only thing I'm disgusted about is the same filthy rich Vegas cronies getting their way. I hope someone here got in on those odds. Too bad I've never given a sht about betting, when I saw what the Draw was bringing I wanted to bite. Too damn late.
