Too much money on the line for the fight to be called off I would have thought.
Am I surprised he tested positive ... no.
Canelo as a boxer has improved a lot and I enjoy watching his fights, but it's hard to take him really seriously in light of some of the scorecards in previous contests ... you know what I mean ;-)

Canelo suspended after 2nd drug test positive

Canelo Alvarez was temporarily suspended by the Nevada State Athletic Commission following two positive tests for the banned fat-burning drug clenbuterol, the body’s executive director Bob Bennett said in a statement on Friday.

Alvarez will meet with the Nevada Commission on April 10 for a final decision on his case, less than a month before his scheduled rematch against multiple middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin in Las Vegas on May 5.

It was always two. For some “reason” golden boy said one or made it out to be that in their media release. Unless I’m wrong I think he’s stopped juicing and has passed the subsequent tests following his being outed.

Not sure if goldenboy played that well. If their statement was accurate about the two findings taken a few days appart then we wouldn’t have this “new” news that he’s now tested positive twice. Which condemns him further to the public by bringing it back to public attention......but its what he deserves cheatnelo.

GGG's Promoter Praises NSAC For Taking Canelo Tests Seriously

When Canelo's suspension was disclosed at a meeting with the NSAC on Friday - Golovkin's promoter, Tom Loeffler, praised them for taking the positive tests serious.

“A lot of people thought they would just shove this under the rug because they wanted the fight to happen, but with this investigation and the action they’ve taken today, they’ve proven otherwise,” Loeffler said of the commission, during an interview with Yahoo Sports.

“We met today and Bob said they had to give him the suspension per their regulations, but he pointed out that Canelo complied with every request and that he passed multiple tests given to him since the failures. So they’ll have the hearing on April 10 and we’ll see what happens then. But Gennady definitely wants to fight and he’s going to proceed as if the fight is still happening.”

How ridiculous. If you have a fight scheduled for May and the hearing is in April, then the fight should be called off now. This is just another ploy by Vegas for their favorite son, Canelo. They've already told Canelo that the fight is still going to be on but now there's doubt in GGG's camp that the fight will go on so it will affect his preparation or at least Canelo's team are hoping. Hence, this gives Canelo another edge while the Nevada State Athletic Committee looks like they've done someone with this bogus "suspension" lol. Laughable.

Don't fall for it GGG. Walk away and find someone else to fight, we'll watch.

How Clenbuterol Works

Clenbuterol has thermogenic properties that are beneficial for both athletes and bodybuilders, as it not only causes a significant rise in core body temperature (promoting fat loss); but also increases your body's ability to absorb glycogen.

Since clenbuterol aids in the release of glycogen as glucose into the bloodstream, your body won’t be able to assimilate or store the glycogen. As a result, protein and fat molecules are now used to produce energy, effectively turning your body into a fat burning furnace.

This enables users to lose body fat and also gain muscle as it improves the body’s aerobic capacity. Clen helps in transporting oxygen throughout the body by increasing blood flow and blood pressure. Better blood flow and oxygen delivery is beneficial for athletes doing endurance training.

Controlled scientific studies on animals have shown that clenbuterol CAN cause noticeable gains in muscle mass.

Sounds like it would help immensely during a training camp.

WBC Prez is Stunned By The News of Canelo's Suspension

Suliaman is unsure of what led to the NSAC making their decision to issue a temporary suspension on Canelo on Friday.

"It is difficult to have a position, since we do not know what the suspension is based on. Our position has been clear in the analysis we made, based on the information we had available. I would not like to enter the realm of irresponsibility because I do not know if Nevada's decision was based on information that we do not have available to make this determination," Sulaiman told A Los Golpes.

''There could be a reconsideration [by the NSAC], unfortunately I have no element that can help me comment. I do not know if there is an appeal, a process where the promoters can ask for an advanced decision, I do not know if it is the move by the NSAC is based on the result of these two tests for clenbuterol [or there is something else], this is exclusive to the Nevada Commission."

Self preservation is the name of the game. Difficult to not see Canelo being thrown under the train now. Friends of Canelo getting thin on the ground all of a sudden. Even $ulaiman seems to be getting the picture.

Is the fight off? Is this damage limitation too late? How big is serious pe.d. use amongst boxing's elite? Who's next?

It looks like stricter random testing along with tougher punishment is the only way forward out of this mess. Canelogate has to be good for boxing ultimately, but it's still a huge disappointment if we lose the biggest fight of the year. But if we do then the punishment must be appropriate.

Athletics and cycling have been unable to recover credibility even with strong measures. Boxing has previously never bothered too much about credibility (and rumours about past champions who dramatically changed their physiques late in their careers will now be looked upon even more suspiciously), but times seem to have changed.

Fwank Warren today has confirmed his interest in allowing Billy Joe Saunders become GGG's late replacement opponent for the 5th May, as long as his fighter is physically capable of getting himself 100% ready for that date.

According to Doug Fischer on Twitter:

Anyone who doubts #CaneloGGG2 isn't in legitimate serious jeopardy of being canceled due to Canelo's 2 failed PED tests I offer just one exhibit: HBO didn't use its Saturday fight telecast to promote the PPV & left it off it's upcoming calendar of events. This is serious, folks.

Honestly if Canelo juices then I don't want to see this fight.
I would rather see GGG vs. Saunders. GGG deserves the May 5th date anyways. He clearly already beat Canelo the last time when he was robbed on the cards. Everyone in their right minds knows that, except for the blind Mexican Canelo fans.

Canelo should get a proper ban and then when he returns he can fight borderline bums like Gary O'Sullivan lol

Saunders has postponed his fight against Murray after damaging his hand, an injury which also has implications for him as the stand-by for a mega-millions-fight with Golovkin.

The decision to put back the fight with Murray until June 23 follows closely on Golovkin's confirmation of Saunders as his preferred opponent if Canelo Alvarez is banned from their blockbuster rematch in Las Vegas on May 5.

The injury, reported by Saunders following a sparring session, could prove accidentally fortuitous for him if the Nevada State Athletic Commission suspend Canelo for two positive drugs tests early this month.

So is the injury real or did everyone agree to postpone it in case Saunders gets called to fight GGG?

No one knows for sure whether Billy Joe Saunders’ injury is real or not (except the Brit's team), but the timing of its occurrence is very coincidental, suspiciously so, especially considering the timelines:

• 19/03/18 - Gennady Golovkin proposes the idea of facing Billy Joe Saunders if Canelo is suspended
• 20/03/18 - Billy Joe Saunders withdraws from his bout against Martin Murray, due to a minor injury.
• 21/03/18 - GGG behaves out-of-character and labels Canelo as being a drug “cheat”, with some members of the media suggesting that such claims could jeopardize their Cinco de Mayo rematch (hinting at a possible suspension for Canelo)
• 23/03/18 – Abel Sanchez claims that he's not worried if Canelo withdraws from the bout, because Saunders is the back-up
• 24/03/18 - The Nevada State Athletic Commission temporarily suspends Canelo Alvarez
• 25/03/18 - HBO declines to use the Whyte-Browne telecast to promote the GGG-Canelo PPV rematch, due to the uncertainty surrounding the bout
• 26/03/18 - Fwank Warren confirms his interest (to iFL TV) in allowing Billy Joe Saunders become GGG's late replacement opponent for the 5th May. Tom Loeffler confirms that GGG will fight on the 5th May regardless as to whether he'll be facing Canelo or not
• 27/03/18 - Fwank Warren publishes his own article via the 'Boxing Scene' website reiterating his desire for Billy Joe Saunders to face GGG if Canelo is forced to withdraw from the super-fight

Sometimes actions really do speak louder than words, which means that when all the chess pieces are moving in a particular direction, it’s not always a coincidence…

And in this case, it may indicate that some sort of long-term suspension may be imminent for Canelo, which means that GGG will be looking for another dance partner for his Cinco de Mayo fight date, with the evidence strongly-suggesting that Saunders has made himself available for consideration by intentionally withdrawing from his bout against Martin Murray.

HBO not promoting the fight this past weekend speaks volumes. More than likely their biggest PPV of 2018. They must really believe this fight will not happen.
