If they didn't stop the fight when Fury was KO'd like he was against Wilder (99% of refs would have waved it off) they surely won't stop it on a cut. He is worth too much money for him to lose.

Fury will get a lot of well deserved crap for his talk vs his performance against a guy that probably wasn't even in the top 50. Credit for Otto for a game performance. I thought he won 4 or 5 rounds, and wobbled Fury a couple of times. Not a good sign for Fury. Wilder and Joshua would have KO'd him for sure, Ortiz probably would have too.

gutsy performance on both sides..my conclusion being that in spite of his size and weight advantage "the lineal" champ has shown that he is only human and that there is a lot more challenge ahead than he might be willing to accept...

It's funny but not long ago we were disputing whether the current crop were the best ever, mainly because of their size I think. Now we're not too sure whether Jack Dempsey wouldn't clean up the division if he was around today.

I think the Joshua v Klitschko fight was a great pointer as to the true standings of today's top heavyweights. Joshua v Ruiz was the other.

Bearing in mind most of them have been caught popping PEDs at some point or another, it shouldn't be too surprising to see some of the top names struggling if for once they're off the juice, or have switched to a less potent form of medication.

The last few decades have probably seen a lot of distorted results primarily because of this issue. Ruiz, Joshua, Wilder and Parker remain clean and then there's Dubois, Hrgovic and Usyk etc coming up.

There's been a recent trend to exercise a certain laxity when it comes to testing for big fights but as usual it's symptomatic of a sport where no one inside wants to take action if it means losing money.

On the other hand I was recently talking to someone who was arguing that the fights were much more exciting back in the days when everyone was juicing....

I've never been on the best ever train with these guys. All three have tons of flaws in different ways which would have been exposed by the best fighters of yesteryear who may have been smaller but were better rounded fighters.

The ped issues do complicate things. My personal view is that there isn't a clean fighter at the top level at heavyweight, just ones that haven't been caught yet.

"For Tyson to box like that from the off, I knew there was a problem. There was no snap to the punches, he lost his shape, the power was not there, his feet were coming together, it was an untidy effort.

"His will to win is unprecedented but he made hard work of it from the off. How does a man like Otto Wallin, with limited ability, get that close with a piercing jab.

"Tyson got cut, he thought he was on borrowed time and against anyone else he probably would've got knocked out - there was nothing right about it."

On the two cuts around the right eye, John Fury adds: "An injury like that could finish a career, he might need surgery on that."

"It's the worst I've seen from Tyson," said John Fury. "I'm proud of how he has mauled his way through but he has to be honest and say things are not right. For a man to be in that condition after eight weeks camp it looked like he had nothing after round two.

"His strength and power went tonight, he was as weak as a kitten from the first round. At 18 stone 1, I've warned him and warned him. He is a 19-stone fighter.

"If I had my way, the lot [Tyson's team] would be gone. If they keep that team that will be his career [gone]."

I think Fury's old man summed it up well. He easily could have lost that fight due to the cut, but also was closer than the cards look. Its a good thing it wasn't Ortiz he was fighting. This is the newer, fresher, in shape Fury Wilder is supposed to be afraid of?
It wasn't closer than the cards. The cards were quite accurate. Fury won most rounds, wore Wallin out and was sitting on power punches and beating the daylights out of him by the championship rounds. The cut lent the fight all of its drama. Big credit to Wallin for that 12th round, though.

Not sure why anybody anywhere is still saying that, but an incontrovertible way to demonstrate that you have not been knocked out is to (A) get up and (B) win the rest of the round, and that's what he did when knocked down hard by Wilder. The result you want is for a referee to incorrectly stop a fight?

Come on, you know the drill on here by now.

Fury only beat Wlad because Wlad wasn't right

The best ever Klitschko turned up against Joshua

The referee should have stopped Fury against Wilder

Joshua was on the brink of victory against Ruiz until he got hit by a lucky punch

If anything this great fight showed there are not a lot of safe opponents. So the 4 best may as well fight each other.

All fighters have had poor performances. Can't stand Fury, but maybe that is simply the case here. He still won. Maybe it'll light a fire under his arse.

Did anyone else notice any slightly dirty tactics by Fury, such as coming in with his head attempting to head butt, or holding and pushing down on Wallin's head?

Yes, I do hate the loudmouthed sloppy looking sob.

Yeah. I also noticed the tactic by Wallin of raking Fury's face to open the cut wider.

It was a bloody, rough fight. Both were doing what they could to get through it.

Not a bad fight, I was surprised. Unless you thought fury was Pernell Whitaker, like many of you do, he looked fine. Wallin was better than expected.

Fury's over the top personality can be grating but jeez, Wallin purposely thumbed him after the bell! If the ref don't call it, it's "legal."

As Rocky said to Adrien, "It gets rough in there." I'm sure Gilgamesh will inform me the quote is a word or 2 off.

How many times did they say Mexican Independence Day compared with how many times they said USA Independence Day on tv on July 4th? 1,000 to 0? Fury's Mexican schtick was pathetic. Is Mafia Vegas part of Mexico now? It wasn't even a Mexican crowd. Why would thousands of Mexicans come to see those incredibly crap prelims? I thought the main even would be crap too, but it turned out to be great!

It seems like people here have forgotten, or never knew, how bad Fury can be. Ever since he beat Klitschko in a weird fluke performance people seem to think he's indestructible and has Ali skills. The truth is he is an awkward fighter, wobbled by the touch of a glove, and fights at the level of his opponent (down or up) 9 times out of 10.

I don't know, but yeah I agree non Mexican fighters wearing Mexican colors and gear trying to suck up to Mexican fans is just pathetic.

The fans will take to you if you kick people's asses, and are entertaining in doing it. Don't ask them to cheer for you. Make them cheer for you by being great at what you do.

I think the doctor should have stopped the fight. It was the same cut that Vitali had vs. Lewis and they stopped that fight. When Wallin rubbed his glove on the cut once - admittedly a very bad move - the crappy commentors - Little Bug eyes and Ward! - made a big deal out of it. But Lewis deliberately opened Wallin's cut by raking his glove on his face and then spent the whole rest of the fight rubbing his glove and his head on it to worsen it and nobody said a word about it, neither the phony ref nor the commenters. But there was too much money to be lost if they stopped this one, namely the big buck fight with Wilder would have been kaput.

I was amazed at Wallin's excellent body movement and how he took everything that the big galloot (which is what ___ calls me!) threw at him. If he didn't run out of steam in the middle rounds and stop punching he would have won. He almost had Fury KO'd in the last round. Fury showed class after the fight was over, though.

How about Andy Ruiz dressed as a travler and knocking out Fury with those wicked fast punches.
