Boxing historically, and to this day, appeals to the tribalism in people. That's why you still see Irish-American fighters step into the ring wearing trunks with a shamrock sewn on them, Jewish boxers wearing trunks with a star of David on them, Italian-American boxers wearing trunks that look like the Italian flag, etc. Boxing is not a sport designed to appeal to the better angels of our nature as some of the more racist-sounding people posting on this thread clearly demonstrate.
