But obviously Canelo is the A side. But plant has something that Canelo has openly said he wants.

Normaly im anti A side things but in this case it makes sense because the stardom is miles apart... Plant is probably getting a 10 times high pay day, so how the fornicate can he still get it if its for a replacement fight, he is getting it to fight canelo... Canelo is probably getting less than his normal payday, so if plant disepears and canelo replaces him its still a big draw.

I want the fight to get made, but i also want canelo to just call him a bitch and fight someone else.

Canelo could move forward. He's a proud fighter and he's bigger than those belts. Also Canelo is his own boss and he ain't gonna be contractually forced by any boxing platform to fight certain fighters. Canelo could fight the best ranked 168 ibf fighter and become the No 1 mandatory challenger for Plant, then purse bid.

Caleb Plant questions Canelo Alvarez’s desire to unify titles with him

Plant says he can’t decide whether legacy or money is the real motivation for Canelo Alvarez.

After recent reports surfaced that negotiations to stage a super middleweight unification between Canelo Alvarez and Caleb Plant have reached an impasse, Caleb Plant decided to speak up for himself to ESPN reporter Mike Coppinger, accusing Canelo of wanting every detail of the contract catered to his liking.

“Canelo was offered the highest guarantee of his career,” Plant told Coppinger. “He was set to make $40 million plus Mexican TV rights and his Hennessy sponsorship. No problem, let’s fight. We gave it to him. Then they wanted upside of gate and PPV revenue; no problem, let’s rumble.

“It was always agreed that it was a [title] unification; no rematch for either fighter. Towards the end of negotiations they asked for a rematch when they lose. No problem, you can have the rematch as well, I just wanna fight.

“I question whether his legacy or money is their real motive. We’ve been waiting for him to get done with this wedding, shooting his TV shot, his golf tournament, and now have tried to give him everything he wants and more to make this fight.”

As of now the prospects for Canelo-Plant are looking pretty grim but in this sport everything can change on a dime and who knows, tomorrow they could be formally announcing the fight. As of right now, though, things aren’t exactly in a good place which could mean Canelo and Plant end up taking on other opponents.

What if it's vs Golovkin 3 though? Or there is a possibility that you will like the replacement bout less. I am not sure it is thoroughly dead yet though but just needs for cooler heads to prevail.

Canelo Alvarez and Caleb Plant are nearing a deal for a November fight that would crown an undisputed super middleweight champion, multiple sources told ESPN on Friday.

Alvarez-Plant was agreed to last month for Sept. 18, sources said, and officials were simply awaiting signatures when the deal fell apart at the 11th hour. After talks collapsed, Alvarez (56-1-2, 38 KOs) turned his attention to a 175-pound title fight with Dmitry Bivol. When that matchup couldn't be finalized in time to stage the fight on Mexican Independence Day Weekend (Sept. 18), Canelo decided to delay his return until November.

Now boxing's top star is deep in talks with PBC for a one-fight deal that would feature him on Fox PPV, sources said.

The prospect of a fight between Alvarez, ESPN's No. 1 pound-for-pound-boxer, and Plant, an undefeated 168-pound titleholder, was dead just two weeks ago. With Alvarez and PBC's Al Haymon locked in a stalemate, the 31-year-old moved on to talks with Bivol. When the Mexican star decided to forgo Sept. 18 and instead fight in November, the possibility of Plant returned to the table.

It's the fight Canelo wanted all along. After Alvarez stopped Billy Joe Saunders in Round 9 of their May fight, picking up his third 168-pound belt, he issued a message to Plant: "I'm coming, my friend."

Becoming undisputed champion has long been Canelo's goal, a feat he hasn't accomplished despite a Hall of Fame résumé that includes titles in four weight classes. Alvarez was set to earn upward of $40 million guaranteed -- a career best -- in the proposed deal for Sept. 18.

Plant (21-0, 12 KOs) was slated to make $10 million-plus, also a career high. The original pact disintegrated, Plant told ESPN last month, over last-minute "ridiculous requests" from Team Alvarez.

"One that is absurd: If I get injured or sick, then he gets a late replacement for the same amount of guaranteed money, but if he gets sick or injured, then we gotta wait for him," Plant, ESPN's No. 3 super middleweight, said after the deal fell apart. "... His bark is bigger than his bite.

"We've been waiting for him to get done with his wedding, shooting his TV show, his golf tournament and now have tried to give him everything he wants and more to make this fight," the Nashville native added. "I'm more than willing, able and ready to fight Canelo Alvarez on any date."

Those issues could be ironed out now, it appears. This is the third consecutive year Alvarez won't fight on the coveted September date, a holiday he starred on against bitter rival Gennadiy Golovkin in 2017 and '18. Another drawn-out negotiation in 2019 forced Alvarez to instead fight in November, a KO victory over Sergey Kovalev.

If he can strike a deal with PBC, it will mark Alvarez's return to pay-per-view, a platform he has headlined nine times since his fight with Shane Mosley in 2012. Those bouts included a megafight with Floyd Mayweather in 2013 and a pair of matchups with GGG.

Alvarez signed a landmark 11-fight, $365 million deal with DAZN after the GGG rematch, but following four fights, he sued his then-promoter, Golden Boy, along with the streaming platform. After the lawsuit was settled, Alvarez remained with DAZN for a December 2020 win over Callum Smith, then linked up with Matchroom's Eddie Hearn on a two-fight deal. The contract for that partnership expired after the Saunders win, opening the door for Alvarez to seek a one-fight deal with Haymon's team and a chance at undisputed status.

Canelo and Plant were training to fight each other when talks came to an abrupt halt -- Alvarez at his San Diego gym and Plant in Las Vegas. This time, the hard work in the gym might lead to what they both want: a showdown for super middleweight supremacy.

Charlo and Benavidez should fight each other! The winner would be a legit opponent for Canelo!

Boxing's top star and Caleb Plant have agreed to terms for a November pay-per-view fight, sources told ESPN, that will be presented by PBC along with Canelo Promotions.

The deal ends weeks of stop-and-start negotiations between ESPN's No. 1 pound-for-pound boxer and PBC founder Al Haymon. Alvarez, who holds three 168-pound titles, and Plant, who owns the other belt, will battle to be crowned undisputed super middleweight champion.

The fight was originally being eyed for Sept. 18 in Las Vegas, but at the eleventh hour, the deal fell apart. Alvarez then entered talks for a light heavyweight title challenge of Dmitry Bivol, but before a deal could be completed, the Mexican great decided to delay his return until November so he could focus on a full training camp in San Diego.

Alvarez, 31, also wanted to focus on the man he wanted all along: Plant. More so than the man, really, is what Canelo wants to be: undisputed.

After Alvarez (56-1-2, 38 KOs) shattered Billy Joe Saunders' orbital bone in May, a ninth-round TKO to collect a third 168-pound title, he delivered a message to Plant: "I'm coming, my friend."

Plant (21-0, 12 KOs), ESPN's No. 3 boxer at 168 pounds, is the first Haymon champion to earn a crack at Alvarez, but he might not be the last. The deal between Canelo and PBC is for one fight, per sources, but there's reason to believe Alvarez will continue to face off against boxers from the stable. David Benavidez, ESPN's No. 2 super middleweight, is aligned with PBC, as is Jermall Charlo, the middleweight champion who plans to jump to 168 at some point.

Alvarez's last three fights were streamed on DAZN and promoted by Eddie Hearn's Matchroom. Although Hearn won't be involved with the promotion of the event, sources said, he's expected to work on behalf of Canelo Promotions.

A 29-year-old Nashville native, Plant thought he had a deal with Alvarez last month after agreeing to a purse worth upward of $10 million. When the pact collapsed, Plant told ESPN: "His bark is bigger than his bite."

Plant said Alvarez was set to earn more than $40 million (a career high) along with Mexican TV revenue and his Hennessy sponsorship. The sticking point, Plant said at the time, was an insistence from the Canelo side on a very particular contingency plan.

"If I get injured or sick, then he gets a late replacement for the same amount of guaranteed money, but if he gets sick or injured, then we've got to wait for him," he said.

In the event a suitable replacement couldn't be mutually agreed upon for Sept. 18, sources said, the event would be canceled rather than rescheduled.

This time around, the differences were ironed out.

Alvarez will have his chance to be called undisputed. So, too, will Plant, who will be seeking something far more: to prove he's for real in his first legitimate challenge, but also the best in the world.
