Thad Spencer opened up as an 8-5 Batting-Favorite over Jerry Quarry.

"Jerry was lucky against that 'old man' Floyd Patterson. Jerry got a gift, because everybody knows that he
lost the Decision. He's too young and inexperienced. He has faded in every bout that he's been in that went

"I'll punish him, and finish him within 8-Rounds. I've got the legs and speed to stay away from him early, and
then I'll put him away with the fastest hands that anybody has ever seen."

Thad Spencer had defeated Ernie Terrell by an impressive 12-Round Decision, 3-Months earlier on August 5, 1967.

Jerry Quarry was 'lucky' to gain a 12-Round Majority Decision over Floyd Patterson on October 28, 1967.

Thad Spencer and Jerry Quarry were scheduled to meet on December 16th, with December 30th as a alternate date.

But, Jerry suffered a 'hand-injury' in his disputed Decision win over Floyd Patterson, and would ask for a minimum
30-Day postponement.

That is a good question. And the answer? Only if it leads to porn or illegal or shocking sites.

However, in Il Duce's case it's typically a Pie Recipe, A linen sale, or some irrelevant boxing info.

So he's good to go, until he posts "Debbie Does Dallas" or some such.....

I guess this rule needs to be changed then to fit your interpretation.

Hmmm.....since I helped write the rules.....I can suggest a change or addition of the word "Accurate" or "relevant" in front of the word summary....

And then...by god we can grab our pitchforks and burn him at the stake!!

However.......He does tend to post what HE thinks is relative.

You know....like the pie recipe that was the REASON Riddick Bowe became too fat to fight...or some such thing.

I know....some think I'm enabling his bad behavior.

Il Duce......you have heard the complaint: how do you plead when it comes to the accusation that you do NOT post sensible summaries around your hyperlinks?

If I don't have a clear and concise answer by Private Message or on this thread (your choice) on this matter sometime in the near future......I may be FORCED to issue you your second warning.

It is a decent book though. . .

Il Duce.....are you "lifting quotes" from other publications?

If so ....you are required to give credit to the author.

Tell the truth.......are you plagiarizing others works?

That is not at all cricket.

He should give credit to the DSM, that's probably the publication most relevant to him.

Was this something that Thad actually said? Cuz that's what people might think when you use the quotes. Or do the quote marks indicate something you said? Or that Jake the guy who works weekends at Ace Hardware said?

Duce: "Here's a quote I made up"

Buzz: "Did the guy actually say that though?"

Duce: "Here's some made up context to go with it"

And if either of you are offended by me quoting you as saying things you didn't, I'm an idiot, I don't know how quotes work. If people make that excuse for Duce, I don't see why I can't use it.

January 8, 1968

Jerry Quarry opened up his Training Camp in Las Vegas today. Jerry plans for an intense 3-Week Fitness Program
to help him increase his stamina, something that was lacking during the second-half of his bout with Floyd Patterson in
October 1967.

Jerry has sparring-partners {Wayne Heath and Freeman Harding} with him, and went to work immediately with a
4-Round session today with Wayne Heath of Oklahoma City.

Jerry had spent the previous 3-Weeks training at Gilman Hot Springs, California.

Trainer - Johnny Flores has Jerry doing 'long' Roadwork sessions at 6:00 AM, every morning.
These Are Facts or factoids....or things that I'm pretty sure are a lot like what I imagine or wish that just mighta actually happened

That Is Correct.........

so in this case he actually said "coop" and not "hideout". Or did he say both at different times?

and when it's a double quote like the words "chicken clay" inside the first set of quotes.... did he super say that or say it really loud...or is that a full half gallon quote?

What was Thad thinking hiring Joe? Did he really think he could wade that deep into the British Talent pool for a sparring partner and come out of it being able to "Keep Calm and Carry on "? Joe probably gave him a good ol' fashion British Bulldog "Welcome to the Isles". lol.

During the late 60's a Thad Spencer vs Boone Kirkman match was a natural for the Northwest (either Seattle or Portland)....a huge gate a payday got away by not making it.

Page after page of "Why Thad could have been champ"?

After researching this hypothetical claim, I feel it's time for a counter argument.

Truth Break:

In the hyperlink below, if you choose to click on it, Jerry Quarry takes his time (and some effort) to explain in 12 rounds or less, why Thad Spencer would never qualify for "championship" status in this era. As long as Jerry was around.

Now, I'm not saying that Jerry is the ONLY reason, Thad would never ever, not ever, not nohow, EVER qualify for championship status.....

But he is one very credible reason. And Jerry does it without a lot of yackin and verbage....like I would take if I was going to go into all these reasons.

I have watched a fair bit of Spencer recently. .after reading 'Name of the Game'. I watched with an open mind. .really..to see if there was any merit in him being a potential champion. Putting the Quarry fight aside I watched his most significant victory of his career ; against Terrell. While it was a good performance and he came through adversity in the 5th round, it is in my view extremely far fetched to consider him an 'uncrowned' champion. He was decent but not elite. He was nowhere near Ali's class and if they had met the result would have been similar to Ali's fight with Williams...an anihilation....in my opinion. . Although he wasn't at his best against Quarry he was well beaten by Jerry in their fight ..confirming that he was second tier...a decent contender...RIP Thad...your life was very interesting and you played a part in the magnificent 60's and 70's...and somehow intertwined with the Ali legend...

Thad Spencer was a journeyman or a fringe contender at best. Do you think he was in the class of Muhammad Ali, Floyd Patterson, Jerry Quarry or Jimmy Ellis even at the peak of his career.
