The key round was round 11, where Frazier beat the **** out of Ali.

You managed to MISS that round?????????

Hilarious.

"without bias" huh?

Based on the lengthy hospital stay that Joe enjoyed in the post fight week.

Yeah...yeah...make a bunch of excuses and re-write history on that one....you'll have fun doing it (as others have had)

Joe had a very very bad week after the fight......that WINNING effort, and I say winning if good

faith....seemed to have taken perhaps more of a toll on the winner than the loser. (Not the first or last time for such a scenario, just a fact).

Joe won the fight, Ali extracted a big price for that win.

It took THREE commission doctors before one would approve Frazier to fight because Frazier had a serious kidney infection before the fight.

Frazier went into the hospital after the fight because of his kidney infection.

Ali had nothing to do with that.

That is perfectly well known to all but Ali fans.

Don't know how this thread has run 7 pages, too frightened to look, but I thought Frazier was a clear winner and this was the widely held view.

What would have been the perfect outcome for "the fight." -- Not for Ali, not for Joe, but for the fight game. What should've happened that night?

ATL: Ali vs. Frazier -- Frazier shocks the world with a first round flash knockdown, putting the crowd on their feet for the rest of the fight, but Ali's legs are still there (young) and his lateral movement keeps Joe from being too effective. They trade rounds, early to Ali, later to Joe. In the final round Joe catches up to a tiring Ali once again and scores a second knockdown, (just as it actually happened; it was perfect, no need to change it). At the end of 15 it's a close one with the judges scores based on attitude towards style. Ali by SD, 8-7; 9-5-1; 7-8 (under the 'ten point must' [only in effect pending a tie in rounds] Frazier wins by SD) -- there is much controversy, (a few small fires and at least one bookmaker is found with his throat slit.)

There is a rematch eight months later.

That's what should'v been.

Too bad Ali had to spend years cleaning out the heavyweight division to try and force a rematch out of Frazier.

By time Frazier agreed to a rematch, he had lost the title and needed the money that only an Ali fight could net him.

Absolutely. I don’t think there's ever been anyone who seriously disputed the result. Even Ali admitted he lost did he not?

Ali never admitted that he lost that fight. He said that it was "A white man's decision". I believe that he lost outright being a white man's decision or not.

I had it 9-6 Frazier.....5 "close" rounds that I had Joe winning 3 of those..if I gave Ali 3 of those he still comes up short..
Judges got it right although that 11-4 card was a little steep

Something like 9-6 is about right.

btw, does anyone think that when Ali went down in the 11th that it could have been called a knockdown?
Yep. Ali got up so quick that no count was made, but the rules clearly state any man who is downed, has to receive at least a standing eight count. Round 11 clearly was a 10-8 for Frazier in my mind.
Ali wasn't down in that round....close.....but no
