And yes, unless the format has changed in the last few years, scorecards are collected at the end of each round and handed to the governing body supervisor, who then adds up the scores on the main scorecard after each round. Also, there is now way a judge in any form of competition, should have a mobile device on and on show.

They get 12 scorecards and hand one to the ref end of each round. The video clearly shows it is his cards

Referees judge fights as well as referee. I once emailed the board to enquire about registering to be a referee (obviously the lowest level) as I love the sport and was never good enough to fight, and they emailed back to say they weren't accepting any applications. It really is a closed shop, which is why you see the same 7 or 8 guys refereeing and judging a show

The BBBofC statement makes it very, very obvious that when a British fighter gets robbed on foreign soil, the board for that fight can go "we reviewed it, he stated his opinion an that's that". Pathetic. Absolutely pathetic by Smith, the board and O'Connor. The BBBofC have just made it clear that nothing will happen to officials here, and have destroyed any argument we can have when one of ours gets shafted.

Entitled, arrogant, shambolic response from the Board. It really is an old boy’s club. Huge irony that a “board of control” is actually damaging the sport with their blatant failure to try and stop and snuff out these illogical, nonsense cards.
Must be infuriating for Hearn as all the graft that went into that bill, the effort of all involved (not least the boxers) will forever be overshadowed by the conclusions of an absolute cockwomble sitting ringside.
I can’t wait for his next outrageous scorecard.
Cheers Terry, kids are crying.

Smith had already set his stall out at the start of the week with his IFL interview. So there really wasn't much point to this review/enquiry.

“Allegations made on social media and the print media as to Mr O’Connor using a mobile telephone or similar handheld device were considered,” a Board statement said.
“Following extensive consideration of footage and Mr O’Connor’s evidence supplied, the Stewards are satisfied that Mr O’Connor was not in possession of any telephone or handheld device whilst carrying out his duties as a Judge in the contest between Lewis Ritson and Miguel Vazquez and his scoring of said bout was not affected in any way.
“In addition, Mr O’Connor’s scoring of the bout was considered and whilst judging a contest is subjective and following Mr. O’Connor’s explanation of how he scored the bout, the Stewards are satisfied that Mr O’Connor’s final score reflected his own opinion of the contest.”

What was it then? I think we, as fans, should put a red line through it now and not create a witch hunt or anything - but I wish the BBBoC would have been a bit more open in their statement.

O'Conner can't judge a fight with impartiality and it's been confirmed as okay by the board. ![[icon_shame.gif] :shame:](./images/smilies/icon_shame.gif)
Re: Terry O'Connor
No! It's not enough to be his own opinion, it's got to be objectively defensible. Their statement does nothing to clear this up.Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑23 Oct 2020, 13:09 “In addition, Mr O’Connor’s scoring of the bout was considered and whilst judging a contest is subjective and following Mr. O’Connor’s explanation of how he scored the bout, the Stewards are satisfied that Mr O’Connor’s final score reflected his own opinion of the contest.”

suggesting someone's opinion is okay because it's their opinion is so f@cking mind blowing stupid lol
Re: Terry O'Connor
No surprise from the board to look after their inner circle let's, get rid of the officials over 65, also more schemes for younger talent to come in.

Next time my 6 year old boy gets told off in school for getting his sums wrong, I’ll get him to tell the teacher that his answers are reflective of his own opinion

Perfectly put mate. Honestly just makes me think fornicate this sport, as there's not even a pretence of professionalism or objectivity. Interested to see how Matt Christie and crew handle it in next week's BN.

I wouldn’t be surprised if all the furore around this matter led to Tel voluntarily resigning in the next couple of months. Maybe Smith and the board didn’t want to be seen to be bullied into action by social media outrage even though it was justified on this occasion.
You have to think that they know what’s right and they know it’s time for Tel to go.
Is Eddie Hearn totally blameless in all this ....

Re: Terry O'Connor
The crux of the problem are the promoters paying the officials off. Of course, they won't sanction them because they can cause trouble and put the BBB of C out of business.
The day I realised the level of corruption in British boxing was the day I lost interest in it. The 'sport' is rotten to its core. O'Connor is just the most obvious tumor but it goes far deeper than him.
