I would say it is a massive failure in the UK. Women's champions league and Hearn fights(without Joshua and whyte) can't watch it in pubs, has little press coverage, failed on bt sport bid. If that's not a failure I don't know what is.

I agree it hasn’t been a success but their losses in the U.K. will be tiny compared to other markets. They just haven’t got any proper traction yet as it’s been a fairly soft launch with little content.

If they get some mainstream football rights and are paying several million a game and aren’t known then that’s a much bigger issue for them.

They paid €2.5bn for 3 years of serie A rights. If that doesn’t work out for them then it’s a massive failure as it could cost them hundreds of millions.

There is a lot of knowledgeable posts on here.

Whether we like it or not boxing is a minority sport in the UK.

To add to boxing’s woes is there has been some notable points which adds to them:

AJ comprehensively losing against Usyk. That the bubble well and truly burst.

Tyson Fury stating after such a high profile win announcing his retirement.

I could go on but boxing has to be popular to Joe Public so they sign up for subscription boxing.

Boxing is going to be condemned to purely PPV shows … this may prove popular but it will not be enough for true boxing fans.

Yeah. I’m not sure if that’s for the global rights for serie A or just for the rights in Italy but their spend on U.K. boxing is a drop in the ocean compared to the rest of the business.

I happily confess myself to be entirely ignorant of the media industry and would gladly stand corrected, on hte surface to a naive type like me i can see no alternatives. cos, no fcking way are they ever making ANYTHING LIKE 2.5bn back from that 'investment'

When the Italian football rights were split between DAZN and Sky there were between 3.5m and 4m subscribers across both watching serie A. Now it’s all with DAZN but DAZN increased their price to €29.99/month so they’d need c.2.5-3m people to subscribe to it to cover their costs.

Will be tough but not impossible.

If they only get say 1m subscribers then it’ll be a massive failure.

Yep whilst DAZN have the rights in Italy. I’m not sure on who owns the rights in other countries.

An average UK show this weekend with a good main event and a solid show in Spain too. As a boxing fan I’m enjoying it and it’s well worth £7.99/month to me. The casuals though won’t care about Metcalf/Lejarraga in Bilbao or wherever it is.

Of course I am but I’m surprised some people aren’t keen on DAZN on here. Same as I was surprised with people not liking BNation in the early years.

If you’re spending time posting on a boxing forum then you’re likely to be a hardcore boxing fan so I’m surprised people don’t think it’s worth the money on here.

Many of the more interested/hardcore/serious boxing fans already subscribed to Sky Sports for a number of other reasons. The extra £7.99 per month they now are asked for doesn't give anything additional to what Matchroom have offered going back the last ten years. That's the argument.

If on the other hand you don't subscribe to any sports channels, then for £7.99 per month, the value offered by DAZN is very good for most. Although I would add, given that the UK fight nights which are the premium content, are going to be one per month in the majority of months, then there are plenty of subscribers who are basically getting a £7.99 PPV each month. The last of which was headlined by Benn/Van Heerden and the next by Richards/Buatsi, and then in June it's Joe Cordina.

DAZN haven't produced one PPV worthy UK card since starting up, and by far the best fight that has been delivered was one that was won via a purse bid.

Yeah - I don’t disagree with you what you’re saying re: the U.K. stuff. There have been some class U.K. fights on DAZN but it’s too infrequent.

I do think though that 2 or 3 of the US cards would have been PPV in the U.K. Almost certainly the Canelo vs BJS and Canelo vs Smith shows would have been PPV if Matchroom were still with Sky and I think they would have done Taylor vs Serrano on PPV too.

U.K. boxing is going through a big transition phase at the moment with us not having as many big name fighters. We’ve had Brook and Khan (and Fury again) retire in the last few weeks and we’re short, compared to recent years, of well known world class boxers.

Eddie needs to pivot his focus more to the U.K. in the next few months and get things moving again.
