DAZN to buy BT Sport.

Rumours seem to be getting more and more likely DAZN to buy BT Sport shortly.

Matchroom back on TV but in same channel as FW.

Would FW want to stay with DAZN with Matchroom being main partner.

Gives DAZN PPV platform for AJ.

Could change few things over next few months.

For what it’s worth, I got talking to a guy who works quite high up in the Tele Comms’ industry, at a mates function in the summer. I asked him about BT selling up the sports and he said he would be shocked if there board actually went through with a complete sale.

He believes they are looking for an investment/partnership arrangement rather than a takeover.

If DAZN buys BT Sport they're really buying the tv rights to 1/6 of Premier League games and all UEFA football - as well as any other rights BT has such as the Big Bash.

They'll then stick this on the app and put the charge up to £25 per month.

Franks got a contract. As long as the Management structure stays the same, I would have thought everything will be ok. He must be secure for at least a couple of years, otherwise he wouldn’t have had the backing to re-sign Joyce for big money.

He was also pally with Adam Smith last summer, which had to have been around the possibly of going back to Sky when it was clear Eddie was going to be on the move. As nothing came to fruition, you would have to believe that Warren was comfortable were he was, otherwise he would surely have jumped ship.

Either way, I think it’s going to be a turbulent 6-12months for the entire industry- especially if AJ gets done on Saturday.

I agree. I think Eddie is struggling for momentum at DAZN. I’m not sure fight camp was particularly spectacular and is Smith v Fowler really amazing? He also seems to be putting a lot of stock into unproven Connor Benn.

Losing fighters like Josh Kelly can’t be good for Eddie. Wasserman’s emergence and link up with Sky is creating a potentially big powerhouse let alone Top Rank’s presence.

Things just don’t seem right for Eddie at the moment (AJ’s rights deal coming up and may stay with Sky/Canelo fighting next on a PBC-Fox Sports card/aggressive domestic competitor moves/Fighters like BJS and others, positively wanting the sky platform).

To me it looks like Eddie’s starting to lose his power grip on British boxing.

DAZN will need BT’s infrastructure & equipment etc. Can you imagine having to watch Premier & Champions league on an internet stream…there will be hell to pay.

Amazon Prime has Premier League games and it's worked ok.
