Appalling cards as expected, but great fight, really engrossing. Bivol showed fantastic skills, and credit to Canelo for facing a proper LHW.
I think it was more they misjudged it based on the Richards performance and were hoping to get a belt Rocky Fielding style.
I was a bit upset with the crowd. With all the similarities of a reverse Rocky 4 I wanted to hear the crowd cheering for Bivol at the end.

There will be a rematch?

I had it 8-4 for DB and Las Vegas tried to give it to Canelo for sure.

Obviously Canelo can come again at a different weight but a big kick in the nuts for DAZN

It's unclear right now. Hopefully there won't be. There's no need in rematches after such schoolings.

canelo said straight away he wanted a rematch, but wouldnt be the first to change his mind as the weeks roll on
the ideal now, is beterbiev beats smith, then bivol's next fight is vs beterbiev for undisputed lhw. canelo fights someone like benavidez. even a third ggg fight is preferable to canelo-bivol if it lets us get bert-bivol

Those 'I want a rematch' talks are quite common right after fights. Objectively, Canelo shouldn't go for it. For him there're bigger opportunities in lower weights. And the LHW championship must be unified.

They’ll be a rematch with a hydration clause for sure. Also wouldn’t be surprised to see a 172lb catchweight.
Hearn isn’t stupid and know he needs Canelo to beat Bivol to carry on “promoting the global boxing superstar”

Can Canelo make 160lbs ever again. Opportunities to become undisputed there and if he made the weight fairly okay he’d be untouchable you’d think.

i think canelo will still be hugely lucrative without avenging the loss
get him a good win next at 168, say he's back at his best weight....the momentum will start again...
hammer ggg next for the undisputed smw title, prob still the biggest fight for the casuals that can be made in the weight range

Who does he fight at 168lbs?
Only Benevidez fight shows anything.

Canelo should go ahead with the fight against GGG.
Bivol should go for undisputed.
Assuming both win
they fight for undisputed at 2 weight classes in 2023.
Bivol will need to make 168 though for it to work.

that's always been the plan, even before the loss. prob still a more lucrative fight than canelo-bivol 2
if he's gonna rematch bivol, do it if bivol becomes undisputed so there's more for him to win vs the same guy

I don’t wanna see that rematch tbh; it was a conclusive win for Bivol.
Maybe he doesn’t fight in September and tries to get back to middle. Lots of good fights there and he would be able to become undisputed.

he looks pretty pumped up and beefy these days, definitely bigger than he was when he made middle. not sure he could do it anymore tbh
dont think he'd need to move to 160 really anyway, what's all there that he couldnt get at 168? andrade just moved up from 160, charlo is big at the weight and could fit in at 168 no problem + has been talking moving up (and he should, better opportunities for him), benavidez is at 168.......160 is set to go pretty dead soon tbh. i mean danny dignum is fighting for a world title ffs

Not really.
Canelo’s next two fights are DAZN. He’s still a top player in the game.

I wasn't saying that DAZN would drop him or the other way round, it's all about bums on seats, and fighters losing in convincing fashion takes away from their aura.
This in turn leads to reduced revenue.
Take Mike Tyson for example, he was always a money spinner, even now, but getting beat hurts the earning power, esp when you have been convincingly beat.
Same for AJ

I hope Bivol gets the big fight he deserves after this win and Cabelo doesn’t overtake him because he’s the bigger name

I don’t think it’ll hurt that much.
He has so many behind him, and most will make the excuse that it wasn’t his natural weight and hr was biting off more than he could chew.
A loss to Kovalev wouldn’t have really hurt him either back then, this time he fought a prime LHW who is of similar age and didn’t know what it’s like to lose.
He’ll still get him on seats. So he might take a small pay cut.

Is that 200 ish jabs thrown by Canelo with only 8 landing?
If that’s true… he’s now the boxing equivalent of Ade Akinbiyi.
Dosser!

Beterbiev in Moscow… with Putin sat ringside next to Hearn.
