Martinez is a good, classy fighter - certainly fringe world-class. I dont think Eastman has shown anything to make anyone think he is a level above Martinez - except only in weight-class, but certainly not in calibre.

Give a bit more credit to Martinez.

Just think it was acumulation that wore him down v Martinez, as far as I can remember...and Howard has no work rate at all, usually.

martinez got stopped by margarito whos a welterweight......eastman took abraham to the wire and many thought he was unlucky not to get the decision and he also made hopkins run away for 12 rounds id say that merits a step above martinez especially with the weight factor! although I see the point about work rate took williams out and your right with the fact that eastman hasnt got that....im still going for eastman by late ko as he has alot of them on his reocrd anyway

Fair enough. But what has been Eastman's wins of note?

It dont mean a lot, that Eastman got his head boxed off for 12 rounds by a great fighter in Bernard Hopkins, or by a not so great Arthur Abraham. Jesus, Ensley Bingham did the same thing against Ronald Wright. If youre a genuine class above, you really dont rank your best achievements as merely lasting the distance.

Eastman achievements/ losses against world class fighters really does not set him as a level above Martinez. Wins, on the other hand would...

Ok, just to confirm though, it's not 30-1 for a Eastman victory in Rounds 7-12, i.e in the latter half of the fight?

It's 30-1 (or thereabouts) for each individual round? I don't see a 'grouped' bet availiable as such?

told you lads.....£2 per round makes me a tidy profit! 33-1 aint to bad! and maybe eastman did get his head boxed off by hopkins....but like i said martinez got chinned by margarito whos nothing near hopkins....therefore eastman is a level above martinez imo!

Eastman was a stinker - holding all the time - and Williams was disappointing. This was so obviously a middle versus a light middle.

Eastman was definately spoiling.....dont see where he goes from here! Miranda would probably do an even more convincing job if they met again!

Thanks amigo :TU:

Eastman was just too class - made Williams look 2nd rate in the latter 1/2 of the fight. Not sure what is next for Eastman - crack at the winner of the European in Jan maybe??? I'd love to see Lockett have a crack at him, although if he has to manatory fight Elcock I can;t see him struggling.

He was spoiling as he's as old as the hills and isn;t as quick as he used to be. Miranda will do Gibbs tonight and then hopefully smash Abraham (if he has the bollocks to fight him again). I can't see why Miranda would want to fight Eastman again - it would be a sort of back step.

You what?

Are you conveniently forgetting Eastman getting battered to a 7th round stoppage by Edison Miranda?

Now Miranda is hardly the class of Margarito, is he.

Just out of interest, in their first meeting Martinez got Williams out of there a couple of rounds quicker than Eastman - that doesnt really support the idea that Eastman's a level above, does it.

I think that fight may have been a bit misleading, I got the impression Eastman was going easy on him in there, and just doing enough to win. Although he stopped him in the end, that was as much to do with Williams' fatigue as anything else.

Agreed, Eastman looked as if he were carrying Williams, trying to let him go the distance. The KO was due to fatigue, but it was a class performance. More impressive than Taylor vs Ouma last weekend, peak Eastman would have beat Taylor imo

Bang on!

- I've just rewatched the fight and the amount of pitta patter shots Eastman throws, he would only throw power shots after Williams caught him with one and then a lot of the time to the body. Give Williams his due - he really tried to KO Eastman in the final round and that's why hew was f**ked. The shot cauch him square on the jaw but didn't have much power but dropped him.

Eastman looked slow and ancient, frankly, but as others have said, it could just be because he was carrying Williams. It did seem like he only wanted to do just enough to win, and didn't really seem to want to let his punches go.

Anyway, it's the end of the road for Williams, but Eastman probably deserves one more crack at European level to see if he has anything left.

I've never seen a fighter look happier after being knocked out. I think Williams tried his best to win the fight, but when he made it up after being cracked by Williams, he winked at Eastman as if to say 'nice one, you got me.'

Fights between good friends aren't really often good entertainment. Famous example is Joe Louis against his good friend John Henry Lewis, who he granted a title shot for a payday, as Lewis was virtually blind in one eye, and would soon be forced to retire, he ko'd him in one round to spare him a prolonged beating...some pal!

Maurice Blocker vs Simon Brown was an example of how sometimes it can bring the best out of you.... as was Moore vs Macklin. Woodhall vs Joe Calzaghe was another.

As for the fight, both looked like faded fighters..... to be honest, I was a bit dissapointed in Williams... just really shows that the Light Middles of 5 years ago should have fought each other cause none were world class. Williams gave it a bit of a go, but it did remind me of Woodhall's effort vs Calzaghe, I think he looked like he knew he was never going to win it.

Would like to see Eastman vs Asikainen (I really like Asikainen), could be a good one.
