No, it IS a joke but nowhere near the joke Pac vs Cheato was.Badhusker wrote:I agree that he should give the belt up. Him vs Khan for the middleweight championship of the world as much of a joke as Pacquiao vs Margarito at 150 for the 154 belt a few years back,if not more so. Both are/were disrespectful to boxing. To Canelo, belts matter when it is convenient. His ego is too big to just let it go right now. I never considered Cotto a MW champ, and don't consider Canelo one either...just my opinion. I just think to earn the belt, you need to fight at the full weight.ikorolev wrote:So, how do you call a person who looked brave against a certain level of danger but goes into hiding when encountering a higher level of danger ? A realist ? Then drop the f4cking belt and don't call yourself a MW champion.
GGG has said he really doesn't care if Canelo fights him or not, as long as he gets the belt. I prefer boxers that cherish the belts they earn, but at the same time absolutely hate anyone winning it at a catch=weight.
That 150 lb farce remains the gold standard for conjured championships: two guys who weren't even ranked at the weight
for the belt they fought a championship for. Two guys who had never had a fight in division for that belt.
Yes, Khan vs Canelo is a joke but, like it or not one of the guys is the lineal middleweight champion
and the other is an elite guy 2 weight classes down challenging the bigger man the same way it has
always been done throughout the history of the sport.
And unlike that Lexus of scam fights- which was just a money grab- what Canelo (and lil g) is doing actually
makes sense if you are rooting for a showdown. They are both taking an easy fight, Canelo's against a name
he can look spectacular against. Couple that with the unknown guy lil g is sure to flatten and you
lay the ground work for a showdown that will garner more casual interest than if both men took tough fights.
There is method in the madness.
But, the main reason I flew in here on my broom like the Wicked Wizard of the West is to point out
there's another side to all this "Canelo is a coward" nonsense being spouted by lil g fanboys.
No one has yet to explain how a guy who was willing to go down to 155 just 14 months ago manages to
avoid his fair share of the blame for a fight not yet being made.
No one wants to ask Gennady this question:
"If you are a truly great fighter, why don't you challenge yourself and Canelo?
If you can do 154 for Mayweather, why not 155 for Canelo who Floyd beat easily?
You lil g fanboys cant have it both ways.
Either he is trying to be truly great- and that means doing extraordinary things like going
up or down in weigh and beating elite competition anyway- or he is simply trying to acquire
belts to parlay into whatever imagined prestige or paydays he thinks may come with those.
There is no sensible justification for saying you can do 154 for the biggest cash cow, but not 155 for the second biggest.
And there is no sensible justification for implying you belong among the legends yet being completely unwilling to BE LEGENDARY.
Canelo is no coward. And lil g is JUST AS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE FIGHT NOT HAPPENING AS SAUL IS.
Gennady is the B-side, and all he has to do is agree to do what him and his promoter were begging the media for
less that a year and a half ago.
And the saddest part is that lil g can probably make 155 easier than Canelo can.
