Re: Sergey Kovalev vs. Anthony Yarde - TBA
Im quite torn between seeing Yarde get iced or do as well as I reckon he might do when stepping up, as least guys like Fowler and Patel do the fighting but with Tunde its all about him, he genuinely thinks its all about him and he and he alone is responsible for Anthony Yarde
The nonsense he spouts goes against everything Yarde speaks for, Yarde is always quite non committal when it comes to hype, he understands the need to learn and gain experience, get rounds in the bank and if he wants to take time then I see no real problem with that if theyre in no rush, fair enough its a bit frustrating as Yarde is clearly a lot better than the guys he's been facing and I think the matchmaking has been fairly poor
Take all that into consideration as well as Warren having him headline shows against cans, this whole WBO ranking and Tunde being a delusional knob, I cant help but want to see Yarde knocked off his perch, purely just to see Tunde giving the elbow

Hahaha
Someone needs to inform Tunde and Yarde that lions only hunt big game. Shouting “lions in the camp” after feasting on the boxing equivalent of a mouse or pheasant is more akin to a meerkat or jackal.
Meerkats in the camp doesn’t have the same ring to it though.

Sergey Kovalev vs. Anthony Yarde being planned for June 29 in Russia on ESPN
Negotiations are underway for WBO light heavyweight champion Sergey Kovalev to defend his title against mandatory challenger Anthony Yarde (18-0, 17 KOs) on June 29 in Russia on ESPN, according to Mike Coppinger. The Kovalev-Yarde fight finally has a set date. Now it just needs to be official along with the venue in Russia.
Kovalev vs. Yarden will be taking place on the same day as the June 29th fight between WBO middleweight champion Demetrius Andrade and Maciej Sulecki on DAZN. However, that fight will be taking place later in the evening on the 29th, so it won’t conflict with the Kovalev-Yarde fight.
Coppinger said this on his Twitter:
”SOURCES: Deal is close to pit Sergey Kovalev against mandatory challenger Anthony Yarde on June 29 in Russia on an ESPN platform. Will be Kovalev’s first defense since he beat Eleider Alvarez in a February rematch. Yarde’s first crack at a title.”

I hope Tunde acknowledges ol' Kovalev still carries serious pop - until the two fighters have weighed in I am assuming this bout isn't happening

Sergey Kovalev's trainer Buddy McGirt fires warning to Anthony Yarde
Sergey Kovalev will “take Anthony Yarde to school” vows his new trainer Buddy McGirt.
Kovalev will defend his WBO light-heavyweight title against unbeaten Brit Yarde and has enlisted the help of veteran McGirt.
"We've got our work cut out. We need to mind our Ps and Qs with him," said McGirt who notably trained Arturo Gatti and Antonio Tarver.
"Sergey told me: 'we've got to fight this guy, and he can punch'.
"I said: 'So can you'.
"The key is not to get hit. I won't send Sergey out to get into an exchange with a young kid. We need to take him to school. We need to take him into deep waters.
"People don't give Sergey the credit he needs for being smart because he was always viewed as a puncher."
"People told me that I would have complaints but I don't have any," McGirt said about linking up with Kovalev.
"I had trainers tell me: 'good luck but this won't work'. I needed to find out for myself. I've never had a problem with Sergey.
"All I ask is that he listens. He's had lots of amateur fights and he's a seasoned pro so I just ask that he listens."
McGirt has been nominated for the International Boxing Hall of Fame, and reacted: "You can't get bigger and better than that. It's something you don't think about because your main goal is to become a world champion. But then you realise you haven't scratched the surface. You need to reach Hall of Fame status to reach the pinnacle."

thought I'd seen and heard it all until this interview. I'm shocked and speechlessleejonesjnr wrote: ↑21 Mar 2019, 03:25 Wow.
Yarde is the A side because Kovalev last fight was at a 12'000 seater in Texas but Yarde boxed at the historic Royal Albert Hall (capacity 5500 which wasn't sold out).
Yarde is the A side because Adidas give him free socks.
Yarde is the A side because Mayweather never boxed in London.
Bizarre.

Great fight this & kudos to AY if he takes on Kov in Russia. Massive night.
Although I can’t imagine why a Russian promoter would pay 4 million for this when most Russians won’t even have a clue who Anthony yard is ..
Obviously his trainer is an eccentric loon
but who cares, it’d be fantastic to see him knock out Kov in Russia, and the Russkie is probably past his ferocious best now, that invincible aura long gone.

Yeh. You’d think £4m would lure a better calibre opponent. £4m would probably be any other LHW’s highest purse.MightyWarrior wrote: ↑18 May 2019, 12:40 Great fight this & kudos to AY if he takes on Kov in Russia. Massive night.

Are there any credible sources for this £4m offer?
That’s the equivalent of a £13m + purse bid.

It's a mandatory yeah so Yarde is the only opponent.Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑18 May 2019, 12:46 Yeh. You’d think £4m would lure a better calibre opponent. £4m would probably be any other LHW’s highest purse.
Obv I now see why they are taking this, if Tunde is on 25% the fight will also make him a millionaire.
For Yarde it's a no lose situation and good luck to him, he couldn't turn that money down.

Just rumour re 4m - you would have to think for Yarde to take the fight he must be getting 1m-1.5m region minimum.
To take it in Russia he must be getting a real lift cash wise.

Too right. I can’t see why FW/BT would ever pay him more than £100k a fight so far in his career.

If he’s really being offered that kind of money good luck to him, no way you could ever turn it down, more than some world champs earn in a career, more than UK ppv fighters get paid for a big show. Seems crazy but plenty of dough knocking about in Russia

Not long until the supposed 29 June date. Anyone still reckon it can happen?
I’m only assuming both boxers are training already.

Re: Sergey Kovalev vs. Anthony Yarde - 29 June 2019?
It’s a strange one! No one has ever thrown money to help Kovalev before, so it seems odd that they would suddenly pay Yarde 10x more than he is worth as a mandatory challenger ! If you had that kind of money in Russia you would presumably make a unification fight with One of the other champions ( especially the Russian ones) which would be a far easing fight to sell!Nightmare Roy wrote: ↑20 May 2019, 03:22 If he’s really being offered that kind of money good luck to him, no way you could ever turn it down, more than some world champs earn in a career, more than UK ppv fighters get paid for a big show. It just seems odd ! Kovalev has shown no fear of travelling before ... so just let it go to purse bids and get Yarde for a couple of hundred thousand !
