The NSAC performed hair follicle tests on Canelo and they came back negative for any traces of clenbuterol. They also conceded that there was no suspicion whatsoever of the Mexican intentionally doping.

The WBC, USADA and WADA (which covers lots of sports, not just boxing) subsequently increased the threshold for testing positive for clenbuterol, because it was deemed impossible to determine whether failed tests were due to ingesting contaminated meat or genuine doping.

They also felt that is was unreasonable to assume that athletes, especially those residing in Mexico and China, could avoid consuming contaminated meat that contained traces of clenbuterol (since that drug isn't globally banned in livestock farming).

Under the new/currently existing policy rules, Canelo would have never tested positive for a banned substance or served a suspension, which means he would have almost certainly engaged in the GGG rematch much earlier.

For the record, Canelo is currently on-track to successfully engage in four super-middleweight bouts (Smith, Yildrim, Saunders & Plant), within a nine-month period, which means his inactivity between both GGG fights was out of his control - he clearly likes to keep himself busy.

So, because canelo tested positive for PEDs, GGG had a tune up, and chose a sub standard opponent for that tune up. and you think this reflects more poorly on GGGs career than Canelos.

The problem, which you perfectly illustrate, is that you’re blaming Canelo for GGG’s poor decisions, as if the Mexican was in complete control over the Kazakh’s career.

Canelo is regularly ridiculed for things that GGG receives free-passes for.

Are you seriously blaming Canelo for GGG trying to orchestrate bouts against Szeremeta, Rolls, Martirosyan, Wade and also trying to make a fight with the small, young and inexperienced Munguia, a past-his-prime iteration of N'Dam, Brandon Adams and the European level fighter known as John Ryder?

So why did GGG face Martirosyan, after an horrendous failed attempt to fight Munguia, when Sergeiy Derevyanchenko and Demetrius Andrade were available?

This isn’t guesswork, these guys actively told the media they wanted the May 2018 fight against GGG?

Unfortunately Golovkin could not get fights with Martinez, JCCJr or even Cotto who were fighting on HBO too which it showed how such a hard time GGG had to get the big fights at mw. Also being fair, Canelo after he fought Amir Khan, he dropped his wbc mw title to not get forced to fight a 33 y/o Golovkin at that time.

Canelo is a great fighter, no doubt but he's also a clever one who learned a lot from FMJ and now that he's the face of boxing he knows how to have all the advantages on his side.

Hearn: Golovkin Could Face Munguia, Murata - Canelo Focused on Unification

Eddie Hearn, who works with both Canelo Alvarez and Gennadiy Golovkin, says a trilogy fight is not likely to happen in 2021 - because Canelo is focused on unifying the entire super middleweight division.

Canelo and Golovkin fought to a controversial twelve round split draw in 2017. A year later, Canelo won a twelve round majority decision over Golovkin.

Canelo was in action on Saturday night, when he retained his WBC, WBA super middleweight titles with a one-sided stoppage of Avni Yildirim in three rounds.

Back in December, Canelo captured the WBC, WBA world titles with a domination of Callum Smith.

He will fight again on May 8th, in a three belt unification with WBO champion Billy Joe Saunders.

And if all goes well, the next target will be a September fight with IBF champion Caleb Plant.

"The focus of Canelo and Eddy [Reynoso] is to be undisputed champion, and if we were to follow that line, it goes with [Billy Joe] Saunders in May, with [Caleb] Plant in September. The fight with Golovkin remains there as one great fight, but right now Canelo has history and legacy on his mind and that is being the undisputed champion in his division," Hearn told ESPN Deportes.

As far as Golovkin, Hearn would like to see him defend his IBF middleweight championship against unbeaten Jaime Munguia. He cautioned that the idea of Golovkin facing Munguia on a date in May is not likely.

And then he'd like to get him in a unification with WBA champion Ryota Murata.

"Golovkin-Munguia would be a great fight, Golovkin and Murata could be at the end of the year, in December, so Munguia with Golovkin would be full of action, it would be a very big fight, but maybe not in May," Hearn said.

Jaime Munguia Return Eyed For April 24, Several Opponents in Play

The return of middleweight contender Jaime Munguia is being targeted for April 24, according to ESPN Deportes.

Munguia (36-0, 29 KOs) was in action back in October, when he pulled off a dramatic sixth round stoppage of Tureano Johnson. The contest was give and take, until Munguia landed an vicious uppercut that severely split Johnson's lip.

The rising Mexican fighter captured a world title at junior middleweight limit in 2018 and made five defenses of the title before moving up to the middleweight limit in January 2020 with a TKO win over Gary 'Spike' O'Sullivan.

ESPN Deportes noted several potential opponents who are in the running to face Munguia.

One of them is undefeated boxer D'Mitrius Ballard (20-0-1, 13 KOs), the son of a legend Shane Mosley Jr. (17-3, 10 KOs), once beaten Jason Quigley (18-1, 14 KOs) or former world title challenger Luke Keeler (17-3-1, 5 KOs).

Ballard has been away since 2019. He fought to a draw with Yamaguchi Falcao in December of that year, and then six months earlier he went to a three round no-decision with Elias Espadas.

Keeler has been out of the ring since getting stopped by Demetrius Andrade in January 2020.

Mosley Jr. - the son of three division world champion Shane Mosley - is riding a four fight winning streak since losing a decision to tough contender Brandon Adams in 2018. Mosley Jr. has been active and picked up a decision win last month.

And Quigley has won two fights in a row, both by knockout, since suffering a stoppage loss at the hands of Tureano Johnson in July of 2019.

So Munguia is competing in a stay-busy bout before facing the 39-year-old GGG in June/July.

That’s a risky move that might cause Munguia to lose his opportunity to receive a lucrative payday, because upsets happen, and fighters often suffer injuries (even when they do win) forcing them to sit on the side-lines to recover.

GGG only competes twice per year, so he’s still on track to face Munguia during the summer months and then Murata in December.
