Mayweather @ 4/5 to beat Pacquiao :o
I have to agree.

I wish I firstly had the money and secondly the bottle to put a sizeable bet on the outcome of the fight when it happens - it will happen because the simple word "money" says it will.

After the Lazcano fight I said the next decent puncher Hatton faces will knock him out.
The point is Astrerix, that Pacquio has never had that type of knock-out before in his whole career and many people were tipping ricky to win against Pacquiao, so a lot of this is after the event stuff.

Also, i don't think that Cotto is the same fighter after that deafeat by Margarito....
What are you basing that on? one lop sided fight with Jennings?

Im a huge manny fan but i honestly think that Cotto would do a number on him.
It was his first defeat and many fighters are not the same after a defeat, many names can be mentioned as examples of that, but with Cotto, it was the manner of his defeat to Margarito that will have affected him. He was unbeaten for a very long time and had beaten a lot of good fighters, Judah, DeCorley, Quintana, Malignaggi, Torres, Mosley etc and so was on odds to beat Margarito, but he lost and lost in bad fashion, which will have affected him mentally, to a certain degree.

Why do you think that Cotto would do a number on Pacquaio ? Surely, your not going to say size and power ?

Not with me, though. I predicted Manny would win by KO. I only responded to your initial post because you said nobody was saying Hatton's punch resistance had gone, but a few of us said it in light of the Lazcano fight.

I'm not doubting your prediction and my comment was aimed as a more generalistic statement. It's true that quite a few people thought that Hatton's punch resistance had gone or was waining, because even Buncey mentioned the Lazcano fight and said he saw Hatton wince every time he took a hard shot, but Buncey was saying that after the fight and not before it. I think a lot of people are taking this line of "no punch resistance", because of the devastating knock out punch in the second, but i think that was'nt down to having no punch resistance, that was down to Manny producing one of those million to one shots, that happen periodically in boxing, aka, the Graham - Jackson.

Manny would do it again if they had a rematch, imo.

I think that Pacquaio would beat Hatton, but not in that sort of fashion. It was partly Ricky's tactics and partly the fact that he can't really fight any other way.

Its nothing to do with tactics. What should Hatton have done instead? Circled Pacman? Threw more jabs? Moved his head more? Threw more lead rights?

Pacman didn't let him do most of that stuff and the concussive power was too much for Hatton who has ALWAYS been wide open. I mean, you take a hard right hook in the first 30 seconds, the smart thing to do is to KEEP YOUR LEFT HAND UP to protect yourself. No, Hatton couldn't even do that. And then goes on to get banged with more right hooks and put on his backside. It shows his ring intelligence there, and as Freddie Roach said, "inability to adjust", even if adjusting means keeping your left hand up tight against your chin as you move in with lead right hands.

Hatton just has one way to fight and that is to come forward and go for it. He does the same things over and over and over and over.

His "tactics" have always been the same and he only got away with it when he was fighting smaller or older fighters.

his punch resistance was average at best. magee had him on his backside and rocked badly. phillips had him hurt in their fight, collazo had him holding on for dear life. i could go on here.

His "tactics" have always been the same and he only got away with it when he was fighting smaller or older fighters.
The reason why Hatton got into trouble so early on in the fight, is because he started the fight too aggressively and walked onto one of Pacqauio's right hands within the first 50 seconds of the fight, which hurt Hatton quite badly. Hatton panicked and reacted by pressurising Pacquaio and then was wide open to other shots and ended up being decked twice in that round. I'm not saying that Hatton could have drastically changed his style, but he could have modified it to a degree and not been so aggressive at the opening bell. He got caught early on and that can happen in fights, with any fighter, regardless of whether people think they have no punch resistance or not.

Pacquaio had Marquez down three times in the opening round of their first fight in 2004, but no-one would suggest that Marquez has no punch resistance. In fact Marquez has never been knocked out in his career and Marquez's second fight with Pacquaio was completely different, so a couple of knockdowns in the first round can happen to the very best of fighters, as Marquez proved. I'm not suggesting that Hatton would be wildly different in any re-match, because he does'nt have the same attributes as Marquez, but i'm sure that he would'nt be demolished inside three rounds again, becauae Pacquaio does'nt have "concussive" power, he has never had that type of knock out before in his entire career, certainly not against what people would call "elite" fighters.

Hatton will always lose to Pacquaio because of his speed of punch, the range of angles he uses and the type of shots, combined with the accuracy, with with he delivers them. However, Hatton played into Pacquaio's hands by being reckless in that opening round and he was reckless, partly because that is his style, but mostly because he was badly hurt with almost the first punch of the contest and that's exactly what happened to Marquez. The only difference is that Marquez was'nt on the recieving end of that punch right at the end of the second round, which was same type of punch that McClellen delivered on Jackson and Jackson on Graham, punches that just come together to produce a devastating knock out.

Hatton has been in some tough fights and it's obvious that his punch resistance is'nt or won't be what it used to be, but i think it's wrong to say that he has no punch resistance at all. If Hatton fought Pacquaio again and fought in a similar style to how he fought Malignaggi, then i believe that Hatton would still lose and still get stopped, but not in such a dramatic fashion and not as early on in the fight. I feel a second fight would be similar to the Pacquaio - Diaz fight and end in a similar way.
