Kotelnik is paranoid about not getting a fair crack of the whip. now there's an understatement.

this makes me think that, firstly, Kotelnik may be a bit more aggressive than usual, and secondly he will be well aware that he shouldn't sit back taking unanswered shots.

Would like to see Khan win. But moving up in weight against an experienced guy with a belt... well... Reckon Kotelnek should outsmart him

Yes Kotelnik is a very beatable style for Khan, he's just too fast and too athletic for Kotenlik while there being less of a KO risk with Kotelnik being neither very aggressive or a big hitter. Khan's pro game is getting allot better, tighter defense, stopped leaving himself so open, less fluries and more meaningful shot picking. Good sparring with the likes of Pacquaio is also helping him.

Not 100% sure but I'm leaning towards a Kotelnik KO 8/9 rd barring a suspect stoppage in Khan's favour. Not really seen enough of Khan with Roach to accurately judge how much he's improved but Khan's punch power is over-rated and that chin is always going to be his undoing.

I've got a feeling Khan will win this one, but I think it'll be in controversial circumstances and yet again the board will come to life arguing about it. As has been said before, early stoppage perhaps, or maybe Khan will open him up with an accidental Glasgow kiss in the 5th.

X2 and khan will be given every chance unless we get a decent reff in i vote tony weeks he usualy does a decent job
i just hope it isnt dave parris. If kotelnik gets it in his head that the ref will be biased he might be more tense and negative adding to the likelihood of a kahn poin ts win.

May the best man win i just hope we dont have controversy

I really don't know this one... Actually think Kotelnik has the style to make it very awkard.... does he have the bigger reach. Khan likes to be the bigger guy, the only time he has been the smaller guy looked what happend.

There are so many different scenerio's - certainly one I would not be betting on. I am liking this controvesial stoppage with a protesting Kotelnik though.

Not really, styles make fights etc. If Khan does win convincingly though that could set up a Witter-Khan fight quite nicely.

i've been worried about the premature stoppage in Khan's favour, but Kotelnik is such a tough nut to crack I just don't think Khan will even fool incompetent guys like Dave Parris or Terry O'Connor into waving it off. Those shots are going to be hitting arms and Khan will tire himself out. Kotelnik has taken much harder shots than what Amir is capable of and Kotelnik is smart enough to realise the benefits of him being busier than usual.

I def don`t see Khan having the punch to Ko Kotelnik, as said, Khans punch power is very very over-rated .. but depending on the ref  .. he can flurry away hitting the arms and gloves and give the impression to a ref he is landing enough to stop it... :shame:

Kotelnik`s last opponent .. and win - is being over looked some I think ... what if Maidana does a number on the much praised Ortiz next .. then it will make Kotelniks win a lot more impressive .. and Khans chances alot less likely :-?

Khan has very good speed, and very good stamina .. these pitted against Kotelniks rather plodding one dimensional style .. and the fact Kotelnik has very much been carefully handpicked - makes it seem a 100% cert for khan.

But as will always be the case with Khan ... that china chin is one half decent punch away from letting him down.

if ppl go out of their way to not fight witter, and if witter has no title, then i can't really see khan and warren going for it

To those of you predicting a Khan win, how do you see the fight playing out? Do you think Amir isn't going to get hit at some point? Every time Khan has been hit flush, he has been wobbled at best, at worst he has been knocked into the next continent.

Kotelnik isn't the sort of guy you can hope to just somehow 'stay away from' the whole fight, and Khan has no subtleties or nuances in his defence that go beyond that. Luckily for him it was all he needed against a blind Barrera and everyone praised him for being 'tighter' and 'more controlled', but what does this mean exactly against a guy as handicapped as Barrera was?

They're going to be looking to get Khan every advantage for this, Frankie just can't afford for his last cash cow to fail. However, Kotelnik is ready for a 12 round fight and will be more determined than ever - he knows what this opportunity can bring. OK, so he isn't a big hitter but he is a solid light welter and can easily punch hard enough to do Khan. At some point in this fight, Amir Khan will be hit, and when he is, it'll be the beginning of the end for him.

In a nutshell, i see it like this......

Khan will win because he will have the greater hand speed and that means punching power. Khan has'nt improved his defence at all, he just keeps his hands a little higher, but if he is caught, he will go back to his default setting, which is to start attacking his opponent. If Khan gets caught badly, then it's goodnight vienna, but i think that the likelhood of that happenning is somewhere around 20% for this fight. Khan will look to finish it early and will use the hand speed and vartiety of shots, to either knock Kotelnik out or maker the referee stop the fight, because he can't shield away and avoid all those shots that Khan will throw.

I predict it to end in the 6th :box:

?????????

it may mean he lands shots that his opponent doesn't see, therefore more effective, but i don't think handspeed = punching power at all, in most fighters.

correct, observe guys like pernell whitaker and many others with blinding speed but not big power.

Fast hands has never guaranteed power. Khan just isn't a big hitter fullstop, and Kotelnik has probably fought at least 10 guys who hit harder.

I would like to say at this point

people always talk about x's punch and y's punch

punch is only ever relative to the opponents chin and defense.

the important equation here IMO is:

Kotelnik's chin matches with Khan's punch (and defence), at least 3,500 - 4000 % (roughly speaking of course) better than Khan's chin matches with Kotelnik's punch (and defence)

glad to be of assistance

good point. Saying 'Kotelnik can't KO Khan because he's not a puncher' is as ludicrous as suggesting Julian Jackson could KO George Chuvalo.

Julian jackson's handspeed wasn't up to much. i am beginning to wonder therefore if his fabled power was something of a myth ;;-)

Its definitely an interesting fight. I can see Khan outpointing Kotelnik but I can also see Kotelnik outpointing Khan or KOing him. What I can't see is Khan KOing Kotelnik without a bent ref.

I think a lot of the top trainers would disagree with you on that. Of course, other elements come into it, like the angle and timing of the punch, but effectively, if you have good hand speed, then that is where the power is generated from. Fighter's known for punching power, like Kevin Kelley, have expressed this many times. This is'nt to be confused with one punch power, but a fighter, like Khan, who throws a variety of shots, very quickly, with accuracy and good timing will have good pwer in his shot because of the speed of his hands. Larry Holmes was asked whether Mike Tyson was the hardest puncher he had ever faced. Holmes said no, he was'nt the hardest puncher, arnie Shavers was, but stated that Tyson's power came from the speed and delivery of his punches, ie, quick, in combinations, delivered with great acuracy and timing and sometimes from unothadox angles, as is often the case with Manny Pacquaio. That's what i mean by speed = power.

I'll allow Kevin Kelley to describe my point of view, with regards to Speed = Power
