1615: The tide appears to be turning in the betting on Saturday's world heavyweight clash between David Haye and Nikolay Valuev.

Most of the money had been for the odds-on Haye but plenty of punters are now turning their attention to man mountain Valuev.

bet365 spokesman Steve Freeth said: "It’s one-way traffic as far as we’re concerned – people only seem interested in the giant Valuev at the prices and the more speculative punters are going for a victory by knockout.

"The biggest price we’ve laid on that is 11/2, but they’ve just taken the 7/2 and we’re bound to be shorter than 10/3 by the time of the first bell."

And after an initial run of money in support of Haye, Sky Bet customers are now backing WBA heavyweight champion Valuev, forcing a cut in his odds to 5/4 from 6/4.

Sky Bet's boxing betting expert Scott Springgay said: "All the money seemed to be going on Haye and the sudden interest in Valuev has come out of the blue.

"Evidently, the more our customers see the sheer size of Valuev and the mountain Haye has to conquer, the more likely a Valuev victory looks to them. However, come Saturday night, I expect patriotic punters to revert to backing the British fighter."

Fair enough, but in the same way, the questions over Khan's chin were a myth too, until he was knocked cold by Prescott.
The signs are there though, if it looks like a duck and walks like a duck, it probably is a duck.
I had some of those 11-2 odds a few weeks back, Valuev by stopage. He's big, tough & motivated - and hits harder than Mock we can be sure.

It's an odd fight, a very unusual match up, and when unsure back the guy with the better chin. Valuev KO5

Being knocked out by Jim Twite as a light heavy in the Abas, staggered badly by joourneyman Lolenga Mock, ko'd by thompson, knocked down by Mormeck and Barrett and never fought a live heavyweight - and you're questioning me questioning his chin? (Not to mention rumours of being Ko'd by David Price in sparring....)
Interesting bit of trivia here. Lolenga Mock lost a razor thin decision this year to the current WBA light heavyweight champ, Gabriel Campillo.

I agree
Can you explain why he has been badly hurt and dropped multiple times by average punchers then.

So did Tito, did you class him as having a bad chin?

Yes I did and that was by far his biggest weakness, but his other abilities allowed him to have tremendous success regardless. Haye was KO'd by James Taite and stopped by Solis as an amateur, and has been on the floor three times as a pro, four if you count what should''ve been ruled a KD against Barrett. If his chin is fine why does he keep making trips to the canvas?

There is a big difference in getting put down and knockout to getting put down and getting back up to win, making Cruiser could be a big factor in why Haye was put down as a pro maybe the move to Heavy will counter his 'alleged weakness'

the same questions were surrounding Pascals chin before the Froch fight as well

I wouldn't class Mormeck as an average puncher plus Haye had been killing himself to make weight, who else has dropped him?? Mock hit him to the temple whe Haye was a 7th fight novice in 2003 which scrambled his senses

Nobody else has dropped him badly, Thompson landed some BIG shots on him, but Haye was stoppe don his feet. Fragomeni landed some BIG shots on him late on in their fight which didn't trouble him other than the cut.

The main thing is though when he gets put down he gets back up again and sparks his opponent out

I had a dream last night/this morning that Haye fought Valuev underwater in a swimming pool and ko'ed him in one minute with a left hook. And then I had a picture taken with Haye. Random. Anyhow, the odds seem to be improving on Haye - not sure he can ko the big fella or not so I'll be backing him outright.

Mainly from Froch fans though, and it was over a single incident, where it was hard to see if he'd been staggered or been off balance. It's a lot different from the Khan and Haye evidence, which we've seen repeatedly. And Enzo.

I don't count the Thompson fight either, in that he was just knackered.
It's the Mock and Barrett knockdowns, that's the real worry...

Anyway, I really hope you're right, and that his chin is better than I think.
Fighters like Andre Ward and Chad Dawson have proved sturdier than some people thought, so far.

We've only got to wait until tomorrow night to see who's right. I'm going to be way too excited.

David Haye to win by Retired Opponent 20/1

I can see the Valuev corner pulling him out after taking some heavy punishment, worth a speculative punt :TU:

We may get a better answer to the Hayes Chin' question on Saturday IF Valuev can land anything meaningful

Well that eliminates Haye winning on points then.

Haye to get knocked down then go on to win the fight 9/1 on william hill

Late money all for Valuev

Haye was 4/9 in places earlier this week and a top industry price 4/7 on Wednesday I think. Betfred are now 10/11 each of two. Haye could go off as the outsider here.

This from Sporting Life sister site Betting Zone:

On the morning of the fight between Nikolai Valuev and David Haye, Sky Bet customers have further backed into the giant Russian's price to win the fight and he is now evens from 11/10.

Following yesterday's weigh-in which showed the near seven-stone difference between the two boxers ahead of tonight's WBC heavyweight title showdown Nuremberg, Valuev had been cut to 11/10 from from 5/4 - but those odds have been cut again with more support. Haye is just about favourite at 8/11, with the draw available at 25/1.

Valuev has also been well supported to win by a knockout and is now 5/1 from 6/1 in Sky Bet’s exact method of victory market.

Haye, however, still has his supporters and his price to knock Valuev clean out is now 5/1 (from 6/1) with Sky Bet. The odds of Haye winning on points continue to drift and now stand at 5/2 (from 2/1).

Sky Bet's boxing betting spokesman Scott Springgay said yesterday: "For the first time in a long time, it looks like we can cheer on a British fighter because everyone is backing Valuev in the fight outright market.

"However, that's only if Haye wins on points. Either fighter winning inside the distance and by a clear knockout will cost us a fortune!"

I've got 9-2 at skybet for the Valuev stopage, and 11-2 at other sites.
Not sure about your Haye on points tip Goods, even if he does the job, you've got the three judges, who've probably had a lovely vacation in Germany so far, the crowd, and big daddy Don King, smiling over their shoulders as they score the fight.
It'd be miracle at Nürnberg.

Well if we don't have to worry about Haye's chin, i'd fret about the shots to his temple. Troubled him, and many others, down the years. The giants punches will be coming in at an awkward angle, albeit in slo-mo.
Having said that, Valuev must be the most averageist  champion in recent memory.

Valuev fav with Ladbrokes now. 8/11 plays evens.

Am off on the drink now to watch it with an already steaming Michael Hunter.

1/6 the weekend ends up a shambles.
