i don't like phrases like "found out." my opinion is he made light middle too long, against advice of both trainer and promoter (as it says in article). and ryan rhodes, on his comeback, reinvented as a 154-pounder, bloody well made him pay. rhodes dug the body well in the first few rounds and this must have been an excellent strategy if moore's self proclaimed weight issues are true. one time, rhodes literally jumped into a straight left to the body, and really knocked moore back.
it's a great fight, too good fighters with 2 very different careers, coming together and producing something memorable. these fights are absolutely crucial to the industry of british boxing and it bothers me that all most ppl can do is turn nose up and dismiss "ooh, this in't world class." as if that's the only thing that counts.
it will be interesting to see what moore can do at middle. i reckon he can make it to a memorable macklin rematch hopefully for a world title. on other hand, he would have to bring something big to fight, otherwise why would macklin want this rematch? will moore surpass what rhodes has done up at 160? it will be ironic is he does: you'll have one guy who moved down, and did well. and the other who moved up, and did well.
i think this will be a topic to bookmark, and to come back to. based on how moore and rhodes get on in their respective divisions. for all we know, rhodes might win a world title, or even lose to someone moore beat, in a domestic/euro fight. let's come back to this, as it could help to highlight what different trajectories these 2 are on, in spite of their memorable collision.

You're really getting a lot of mileage out of that weight excuse for Moore.
Fact is he just wasn't good enough to beat Rhodes. He's bean KOd before at domestic level and it happened again. His defense is simply too porous and he is too one dimensional to beat a clever boxer like Rhodes.
Nobody is saying it wasn't a good fight. YOU were the one claiming Moore was world class, even putting forth a case that Moore could beat Paul Williams (Moore would be done within 3 rounds maximum). I understand you have multiple orgasms when you watch a pressure fighter in the ring, but you have to GET REAL about the actual level of the fighters involved. We saw Lockett beat Rhodes and what happened when Lockett went over to fight Pavlik (who Williams would beat handily imo), well I think we all saw Lockett get a good hiding and he was happy to take his knee and get out of the fight. Thousands of levels below Pavlik or Williams was Lockett and so is Moore.
Once you understand that, you'll be alright.
I expect you to come back and say how exciting the fight was (which I agree with) and how Moore gives his all (which I agree with) and plenty of other irrelevant points.
Fact is Moore is a limited pressure fighter who got found out. He was massively overhyped on this forum, as was pointed out at the time.
As for what will happen in the future, I would say Moore would get an absolute walloping from the likes of Williams and Pavlik as would Rhodes.

it isn't my excuse. yawn. you're saying the result is a style thing. i think it could be a weight thing, a combination of many factors in fact - as most fights are, to be honest. we all love winners, rightly so, but can't we like winners and understand factors that led to result? like i say: we will know better in the future. i.e. if moore goes on to have brilliant career, or not.
this thread simply is not a big deal, but a# of ppl are making it one, IMO. i will carry on debating if ppl are going to insult me, though.
again, overreaction, about how i react to pressure fighters - you sound a bit silly, really. yes i like action, and pressure, and my fave "british" fight (let's not open that can of worms) is mcguigan-pedroza: it's the style i prefer, and it bloody well worked that night. if moore was a cagey counter puncher, then the rhodes fight wouldn't have been a classic. and hang on, did i not praise haye's performance last sat, his defense and movement??
re levels. a david haye oozed world class for so long. however i think a fighter like moore - compact, solid, strong, well schooled, usually with impressive stamina - can be moved to world titles. there seemed to be a bit of a catch-22. on one hand, he had belt, ranking, and opportunity. on other hand, he may not have been in best position to Take that opportunity.

definitely. i just like to add a bit of context. a few ppl have been "targeting" me, for obvious reasons: 1) the old pressure fighter vs counter puncher debate, and the notion that "pressure fighters are limited." 2) that moore isn't, and was never, world class. i have acertain take on these 2 notions, many others havre a different idea. so my name keeps coming up in this discussion, like i am some obsessed fanboy - which i'm not - due t a # of debates and issues that rhodes TKO7 moore raises.
we can deepen the CONTEXT thing. and it will end up giving moore and rhodes extra credit. right, jamie seemed to have more stamina, and take essentially a middleweight's punch, v macklin. that was an insane pace, due to macklin's insistent, reckless attack...on the other hand, moore could throw his excellent double left hook on rhodes, because he's had his shoulder fixed (double left hook did away with healy, piccolo, dzuman). so while his stamina didn't seem as good v rhodes - and why should it be, some 2 or 3 years of grinding down to 154 later - he had much better punch variety.
rhodes got the win, and it seems the whole of yorkshire is chuffed... i am getting bottles and fireworks thru my windows, because i didn't give rhodes all the credit reet away. i am hiding in't dark. i am reeling under the attack, ppl with strong legs are raiding me pockets...moore gets to move up to his ideal weight,
re the world class thing. well, if the decision was made to move up to 160, before the rhodes fight, then that fvcks my theory that moore would win a title at 154 - my argument simply was never there. i have to wait and see how he looks at 160. i think he's a cracking fighter and i remain optimistic.

Look mate - your words not mine.
"Moore was the real star of the Moore v Rhodes fight"
"Moore's rally in rounds 6 and 7 made the fight great"
F**k all to do with me being a Yorkshireman - that is enough for me to say you are pretty uneducated on matters pugilistic to come out with shit like that.

right. one of my fave ever fights. bowe v holyfield 3. i prefered evander's work. bowe was solid, big, and won. but what made it bloody amazing is how evander - with nothing in tank due to illness, age and bowe's uppercuts - dropped bowe with that left hook during that fierce rally that came out of nowhere. ok rhodes-moore isn't at that level. but it reminds me of it.

He will beat the guys at 154lbs or 160lbs. Williams is the real deal & he is clearly an avoided fighter. Apart from Pavlik & Martinez, the list to face Williams is not exactly long!
Moore-Macklin 2 would be huge, but I can't see it living up to the first fight!
Pavlik should consider himself fortunate that his fight with Williams is not going ahead. Couldn't see anything but a lopsided dec win for the Punisher.

did i say moore dropped rohodes? i was saying i was excited by the rally, the brief, dramatic change in the fight, and the ebb and flow helped make it a great fight. just as evander dropping bowe briefly changed that fight.
i think you knew that anyway.
that's it, the riddick bowe fans will be gunning for me, for "disrespecting" Big Daddy. dressed in baggy t shirts, brooklyn's hardest will come at me from all angles armed with cell phones and chairs...

Well I know everyone assumes it's Scunthorpe but it's never actually named in the book, is it ?
Here's one for you.
In the FA Cup 4th round 1969 -1970 season I was ball boy at Hillsborough when the Irons beat us 2-1.
There was this young kid playing up front who looked a bit special. John Kevin Keegan was his name.

Moores 'comeback' WAS impressive in the Rhodes fight. He has world class heart. However, Ryan showed equal heart early on in the fight and proved a worthy winner. The Lockett loss was a long time ago and I think both fighters will have success at world level in 2010.
