Derry was well supported: "Also on the card was Liverpool fan favourite Derry Matthews, who packed the hall with scousers that had bused down the M62 to follow ‘Dirty’, attempting to rebuild his career following three KO losses on the spin."

Much what was expected of Derry in that fight really, it says it was a 4 round shutout, just a chance for Oliver Harrison to get a look at him and see what hes got to work with whilst rebuilding Derrys confidence. Hopefully its the start of a good and prosperous partnership for the 2 of them.

There are plenty of boxers who have diminished their resistance by boiling down for too long. Derry is certainly a game lad and I hope the extra weight is an asset though Lightweight is packed out with strong lads; some of them would be a bit too much I think.

Tonights show isn't for our entertainement, its for Derrys rehabilitation from what has been a disastrous few years.
What are the reasons behind it then? We are expected to pay for the privalege!
I agree that its a pretty poor card made up of journeymen that would have been lucky to scrape a round between them. One sided fights like this are killing promotions. At the very worst a live opponent should be in opposite corner, who at least makes the bout competitive.

How much was it to get into Fit City? Serious question because I never went and only heard about it last minute.
The way I see it for Derry is that the lad retired because his self assurance in the ring had been demoralised to such a point that he felt he could give no more. A trainer has come along and said he sees something within Derry that he can help him with and bring back that self assurance at the same time.
Derry being Derry he'll have his loyal support who'll follow the lad to the ends of the earth to give him their support. They'll not be that arsed about ticket prices because as I say they'll follow him anywhere.
A promoter who sees them supporters knows he can hit them for a bit of cash because he knows they're not arsed whos in the other corner, they're there to support Derry first and foremost. Because of the loyalty of these lads (
without blaming them like) other people will also have to pay.
Catch 22 situation like.

Just want to say how well Derry done the weekend, I thought he boxed well especially when u take in to account the pressure he must have been under! I think he should give himself time to get back in to it to build his confidence up and we can all get back behind one of the nicest lads in boxing an hopefully he can go on and win more titles to add to his collection!
