He's one of those knock around guys who was under the radar for alot the 90s/early 2000 when the division was deeper. He'd probably get a lot more attention if he emerged now, not saying he'd hold a title but he'd be considered more of a contender.

He probably gave Vitali his hardest fight (other than Lennox). After that fight I really though VK would lose again to someone coming through before too long. Little did I know he would barely lose a round up till now.

I watched it again this morning. I didn't see any trouble. But it was a bit more entertaining than I remembered and more so than his usual fights. Corrie landed a big left early and when Vitali didn't fall it deflated him.

Pretty much a typical Vitali fight. Beating on a fat guy until he falls from exhaustion or the fight gets stopped. I guess it depends on someones definition of trouble. Some people think Mayorga gave Trinidad a rough night. This was like that to me.

I think I know what you mean now.
It happened during the Trevor Berbick vs Hasim Rahman fight years ago,
when it aired live on USA Network.
It happened pretty much throughout the entire fight.
Al Albert and Sean O'Grady were at a loss of words ringside,waiting for each other to say something.
Someone doing the audio for the broadcast should have done something.
I guess everyone was speechless.
I think even Chris Rock did a joke about Trevor Berbick on his show .

oh, that explains our difference in perception, i thought he
would do much worse. i thought that hew was mediocre &
had a lucky strike with wlad's weakness.

for a man of his shape that night he took tremendous amount
of punishment. i thought the referee could have ended it a little
earlier, but sanders just threw back though he could hardly stand

He showed plenty of heart. Some of that is Vitali's immensely overrated punching power. Corrie took everything he could throw his way. So if you mean he had trouble finishing him, I'd agree. As for having trouble beating him. It was like working a heavy bag after the first round.

Hard to belive that HBO did not list Vitali Klitschko vs Corrie Sanders as one of HBO's fights of the year.
I don't even think HBO showed a clip of it,when they always review fights HBO had on at the end of the year.

It wasn't a good fight.

I think Sanders vs Vitali was entertaining for the first 3 rounds, they were both throwing heavy punches and it was plenty exciting to me. I agree after the 3rd round though Sanders had exhausted himself pretty much and was just getting beat the hell up from there on out.

Looking at his resume, it actually looks better than he's given credit for.

I think one of the problems that Corrie Sanders had with his boxing career was that he seemingly was avoided by
other top ten heavyweights(or their managers),
or what would have been some key fights of his fell through for one reason or another.

In 1994 Corrie Sanders was lined up to fight Michael Moorer for the WBO/IBF hvywt titles.

January.13.2001, Sanders was supposed to have made his HBO debut against Michael Grant.
(cancelled because Sanders had broken his leg during training).


and after Sanders had defeated Vladimir Klitschko in 2003, Sanders had signed to defend
the WBO title against David Tua in South Africa on October.2003.
(I think HBO pulled the plug on that one).

Here is an example of a good Sanders victory.
Here he takes on Levi Billups(who had been defeated by the best of them).November.1993.
What is interesting in watching this match,notice how Billups form and style is like that of Mike Tyson's
in the later part of Tyson's career?What If it was Sanders who had fought Tyson in 2003?
IMOP No doubt the outcome would have been similar and Sanders would be more well remembered by the boxing public and trivia contests
as the man who ended Mike Tyson's boxing carrer.

and you picture some dude climbing into the ring punching himself in the head and stomach for half an hour.

If Michael Moorer had fought Corrie Sanders for the WBO/IBF titles in 1994.
Would that have been the first time 2 southpaws had fought for a heavyweight title?

He also lost at key points in his career . . in 1994 he was KO'd by journeyman Nate Tubbs. In 2000 in a eliminator for the title he loses to Rahman. You seem to want to wax poetic about Sanders as some lost talent but he was what he was, a athletic, dangerous puncher early in fights who faded badly due to awful stamina and had a suspect chin. His overall skills also were not very polished, his defense was mediorce. He was what he was.

IMOP the fight with Rahman was stopped too soon,Im sure Sanders would have knocked out Rahman 3 rounds later.

Also another Sanders fight that fell through in 1995,was a fight with the then undefeated Courage Tshabala.

It seems to me that the real problem was that Sanders was deliberatly stood up in his fighting prime,
and only got a shot when he was almost washed up at age 40.

He was always out of shape. That's hardly an excuse. But he was a tremendous waste of talent. With a solid work ethic he could have made the PGA tour.

thnx for posting this! just ... the sanders of 2003
was not the man of 1993.

i must say i like his style in this clip. mobile, moving
well away from the ropes. calm and aggressive while
the other guy is coming in ... not bad. not bad at all.

problem in his record is that he lost the important
steps to the top. had he won against rahman in 2000 ...
well, he didn't.
