Why did the Hattons put on such a weak undercard?Glyn Leach wrote:They're definitely talking about it iwz and it might well happen - not a bad match for someone in Fury's position, possibly a bit too ambitious, but Rahman is a name and Sky are desperate to make the Khan show PPV worthy. Difference between Rahman and the other fighters you mention is that they're not scheduled to feature in the chief support — and Sky know they need a good support because the main event isn't strong enough on it's own. Banking on Rahman is risky under those circumstances.
Cheaper. Have been dropouts too but was never great.leforge wrote:Why did the Hattons put on such a weak undercard?
Fair enough but why is Adam Smith allowing such a poor undercard again to ppv?Glyn Leach wrote:Not actually their show, is it. Understandable if Hattons want to keep their best stuff for their own shows otherwise those shows will be criticised.
He was lucky that Murray fight was competitive too. He needs to make sure more competitive fights happen on sky.Glyn Leach wrote:That is the question leforge — and I think he might be wondering that himself as we speak. How he decides to answer it will say a lot about him.
Is Khan really pay per view anyway?Glyn Leach wrote:Fair enough mate. Perhaps I've become a little too accepting of PPV on one level — for fights that are of genuine national interest (Bruno-Tyson, Hatton-Floyd/Pacman, Haye-Klitschko) I don't mind. But I see no reason for fights to be made PPV just because they are good matches (the 21 May show) or because they feature a star name (Khan in this case). Fury-Rahman would be a bonus, but in my opinion this show should not be PPV anyway — the man in the street doesn't care about Khan-McCloskey (Belfast streets being the exception).
It's on SKY PPV, that's all you need to know.leforge wrote:Is Khan really pay per view anyway?Glyn Leach wrote:Fair enough mate. Retro, Bruno-Tillis style!King Geedorah wrote:Good old fashioned heavyweight match. Prospect against a former title holder who has seen better days. I like this, I love it.
Price - is supposed to be fighting Mcdermottfreddydoesdallas wrote:It's still a disappointing fight for me. There are plenty of domestic rivals for him to face, no need to import has-beens and also-rans.
Price
Chisora
Sexton
Rogan
Even Audley
I don't think any fighter is PPV on his own, depends on the match. When you look at the next two Sky have scheduled, they've split those requirements — they make Khan a PPV because they deem him a star and they make 21 May PPV because the matches are very competitive. The right formula should be genuine stars in very competitive fights.leforge wrote:Is Khan really pay per view anyway?
I wanted to say stylee but felt silly 'bro'King Geedorah wrote:Or stylee, as the yoof of today would have it. We've got to be 'down'. We need to represent. There's far too many chapz on here not doing their spellingz with a Z. Boxrec's street slang needs to step up. It ain't all gravy.
Each to their own but i'm fed up with the domestic heavies fighting foreigners when they've got their own scene to clear up.MachoMan09 wrote:Hasim Rahman vs Tyson Fury is not a 'disappointing fight'. Agreed. MMA and wrestling have the right idea in that their PPVs are packaged as whole events rather than sold on the strength of one match. The Magnificent 7 was in that vein, and while none of the individual matches were PPV-worthy, as a whole package I'd say it was infinitely better value than the usual boxing PPV format.Glyn Leach wrote:I don't think any fighter is PPV on his own.leforge wrote:Is Khan really pay per view anyway?
Yes, it's a decent enough match. A lot of people disagreed with Botha being knocked back by the board, and I'm sure Rahman's in better nick than Botha.King Geedorah wrote:Good old fashioned heavyweight match.
