Hatton has been fighting a higher level of opposition than Brook and Rees have recently. Hatton hasn't had a particularly good win for over a year now, so Brook or Rees could overtake him soon if they get a good win.

He deserves credit for fighting the number 1 in the division. Lee has so far not fought a fighter anywhere near Martinez's Class.

If you glance at the main bodies WBO, IBF, WBA, WBC etc, outside of the top 3 or 4 fighters the lists are completely different for each body. I can remember hearing that Ryan Rhodes was 3rd in the WBC rankings a short while before his recent title fight, so i thought i would look were he stood on the others and i couldn't find him on two and i think he was way down on the other lol. I think most people know where a fighter stands in his career, how good he is, what stage he is at in his career. It's good of Horse to print them up and i always look, but find them confusing outside of the obvious top 5.

I think Simpson's win against Stevie Bell can be considered a decent win and he could have been given the decision in the two Smith fights, which would have given him 4 decent wins in the last two years.

I don't think Selby deserves to enter the top 20 because of one win against a British level fighter. Simpson has been fighting at British level for almost 7 years, Selby has just got to that level.

Could have, would have, should have.... didn't get the decision. Not sure how Stevie Bell classifies as a fantastic win (almost 2 years ago), he couldn't win an English title level - let alone British title level. Plus it was Bell's first (and only) fight at Featherweight and he has subsequently (if he is still boxing) moved back up. Selby holds win over Ben Jones who is the current English Super Featherweight champion and has done more as a pro than Bell.

Could have had 3 good wins in 2011 - reality is... he is 1-2. Whereas Selby is 3-0, both have one win at domestic class in 2011 - who was the higher ranked Smith or Lindsay.... it is surely Smith.

Even if you think he should have got the decision/s against Smith, then fair enough..... but even though the manner of their respective performances against Smith must be taken into account.... No one can deny both fights were extremely close between Smith and Simpson, likewise no one can deny Selby beat Smith emphatically.

Interestingly, and dissapointingly potentially I notice Simpson vs Selby is now off the boxrec schedule.

Its a little bit like ranking Jermain Taylor ahead of Sergio Martinez, no one can deny Jermain has got some fantastic wins on his resume and fought in world class longer than Sergio. But Sergio emphatically beat a fighter who had Jermain's number.

Simpson's win against Bell wasn't a fantastic win, but it was a decent one. Bell was unlucky to not get the decision against Fehintola in his English title fight, so he at least showed that he was capable of winning an English title.

Selby's win against Jones was in a 6 rounder which is a novice length fight.

I would pick Simpson to beat Selby. If they fought it would clear things up. It is the best domestic fight that can be made at featherweight, so hopefully it will happen.

I would say it would be more like ranking Hopkins above Pavlik in P4P rankings even though Hopkins lost two close decisions to Taylor and Pavlik knocked him out.

Unlike Hopkins, John Simpson hasn't fought since his loss to Smith though.

It's not exactly the same situation, but neither was your comparison.


If Simpson had been given the decision in the two Smith fights then he would probably be in the top 10, so I really don't think that Selby belongs above Simpson at the moment.

Selby has pretty much come from nowhere and beaten Smith. He is ranked in 25th position, which is pretty good for a fighter who has done as much as him.
