As a bit of an aside, but still related, there were national newspaper boxing writers who never wrote a word at the weekend about this fight. Please, let's not fall into their trap and validate their decision not to cover it by slagging it off.
Consider this:
Prizefighter...ignored by press.
British titles week in and week out...ignored by press.
Barker in Atlantic City...just a couple of writers.
This was on paper and was in reality a fantastic domestic fight with the WBO's bauble as an extra.
The 70s, 80s and 90s was not all John Conteh and Chris Finnegan...go and look at some of the shite fights in tiny, tiny venues with men fighting for peanuts. I remain amazed at the negativity that surfaces on forums.

You make a great point - but here's another for ya

Young boxing fans dont give two tosses about the daily rag print press, and not many buy them. Only boxing publications get purchased.

Apart from maybe riding the bus, or boarding an Aeroplane for a flight, the newspaper is not the force it once was amongst under-30's anymore.

The red tops are largely consumed by men in vans, who flick through whilst drinking their tea during their lunch hour on their dash board. The more 'intelligent' newspapers are usually Sunday morning fodder.

Of all the friends and family I know, hardly any now make it their daily duty to purchase a paper. It's not even their main priority for a Sunday either when they fetch some bacon and a sliced loaf.

The mobile devices like Blackberry, iPhone and especially iPads pick up news instantly via Twitter, Facebook and news sites. Infact many newspapers like the Guardian and Times now have an iPad version you can subscribe to on the fly.

In closing, sure the tabloid people might have let it slip - but I'd bet the internet has increased 1000% with websites, contributors and forums in the last 8 years.

And that's the trend that needs focus. Because if you examine advertising revenue spent by blue chip companies, after Tv and internet... newspaper advert spends barely get a look in anymore.

Books are like vinyl = timeless.

I've gotta agree with this, to say he fought with broken ribs is utter bollocks. For a start he would have been out of training for about month, we would still see the bruising and as soon as he got hit in the ribs he would have been on the floor in agony. I cracked a rib in a motorbike crash and i was laid up for a week.

Yes. I have broken ribs over the years. And even getting out of bed is a hard hurtfull task ..
I have also hurt my hand a few times over the years too .. even clenching a fist is a no-no.

So both guys must be telling lies ...

Close fight, I had it a draw

Lets not forget the 2nd coming of the Messiah was taken to a questionable points decision by a 17 fight pro who had only got the fight by his mouth and was written off by most people .
Bellew did fantastic and more questions have been raised about Cleverly than Bellew .

Adam Booth was also at the Boxing Writers Dinner but i never had a chance to question if he put the bet on but all the evidence suggests he did.

Your bitterness is shocking. Bellew put in the best performance of his career and it still wasn't enough to take the belt from Cleverly. Deal with it.

Yes that was a really insightful post mate, who ever said Cleverly was the "second coming of the Messiah"?

James toney tried saying he fought with his thy muscle ripped away from his femur once as well (or something very similar)

I think he said he tried fighting with a burger ripped away from his hand....

You'd have to be insane to fight with a broken rib, and the first meaningful shot you took to the area, would most likely end the fight.

I had a tear in the intercostal muscles between the ribcage once, and even that was agony, couldn't breath properly, and took months to heal.

Maybe there was a hairline crack, or bad brusing, but broken.....cobblers.

Actually it's surprisingly common for people to break a vertebrae in their spine without even realising it, and they are up and walking around. It's obviously different if you sever the spinal cord, as then you ain't doing shite. I know someone who broke their back doing capoeira, and didn't even know for a week.
