Cleverly Had Broken Ribs Heading Into Bellew Fight!
Cleverly Had Broken Ribs Heading Into Bellew Fight!
He confirmed it on Buncey's show. Says he had his ribs broke in sparring only a few weeks out from fight night but decided to take the risk and fight.
And says thats why he struggled more than he should of.
Although I thought he won well, I knew that wasnt Cleverly at his best I was thinking during the fight something isnt right with him. Well theres the answer.
WOW, impressive performance from him considering his injury. That was a dangerous gamble do from him, and he did get hit with a good few body shots aswell.

Re: Cleverly Had Broken Ribs Heading Into Bellew Fight!
Eubank Jr. must be a decent fighter to do that to Clev in sparring
Re: Cleverly Had Broken Ribs Heading Into Bellew Fight!
Very risky to take such an injury into a fight. That said, alot of fighters will take an injury of some sort into a fight. Intense training can do that ..
Bellew too says he had hand trouble.
Eubank jr. Is getting great sparring from what i'm reading!!

What a load of BOLLOCKS , slight crack or heavy bruising maybe .
An X Ray wont show up any crack so the doctor will summise its a slight crack or bruising and i mean slight .
No way is it broken cos ya can do F all and it affects ya breathing too much .
Dont believe the flannel , and in regards he was not at his best again rubbish he was taken the distance by a very good fighter but unfortunately the powers that be had scorecards that make you wonder![[icon_shame.gif] :shame:](./images/smilies/icon_shame.gif)

I think both boxers had injuries going into the fight, Bellew had a hand problem and Cleverly with his rib.
Neither boxer has made a big thing of it, unlike some others have in the past (toe)

Broken rib?
I have to agree with what others have said, that is complete waffle. A broken rib is very painful, even to the extent of lifting you arms, let alone the breathing difficulties.
Silly thing to say.

A broken rib would be impossible to fight with. And he'd risk further, serious lung injuries with it too.
Bruised or cracked are painful enough, I've had a cracked rib, couldn't take a full breath of air for over a month.
I'm not a professional light-heavyweight but I doubt anyone could run up the steps with a broken rib.
I'm surprised he's sullied the sportsmanship by mentioning it.

I read the Booth to the bookies story on here a while back.
For whatever that means.

I broke my rib last year- I was walking like an old man for 2 weeks and I didn't fully recover for 6 weeks. I went to hospital and the doctor said it was lucky it was only the floating rib at the bottom of the cage otherwise it would take months and months to recover, I know I'm only a mere mortal and not a professional light heavyweight champion, but what a load of b#llocks. It would have ended like the cook-Burns fight if Cleverly had a broken rib.

The quicker we all forget about the Cook debacle the better. That those betting stories were not fully explored was deplorable. The injury looked genuine and he was in genuine agony, and of course he has been a tremendous fighter but it whiffed badly that night.yid14 wrote:I broke my rib last year- I was walking like an old man for 2 weeks and I didn't fully recover for 6 weeks. Yeah I was just saying that's what happens when you do have a genuine injury. The first punch Cleverly took from Bellew in the ribs would have ended the fight.DavidPayne wrote:The quicker we all forget about the Cook debacle the better. You mix in high circlesCardiff-Lad1 wrote:It was a cracked rib, not broken.
and regarding the Adam Booth bet, it was 10k and i spoke with George Groves last night who knew nothing about it......
Adam Booth was also at the Boxing Writers Dinner but i never had a chance to question if he put the bet on but all the evidence suggests he did.
Re: Cleverly Had Broken Ribs Heading Into Bellew Fight!
Well i think you will find Bellew broke his hand in the 5th round so even stevens?

Save ya War Hero stories for the kids m8 , his rib was bruised end of , theres no crack cos once heavy impact or severe movement occurs it ruptures more so its game over.Cardiff-Lad1 wrote:It was a cracked rib, not broken.

Dont bull Clev up to be this great Champ , he was taken the distance by a 17 fight pro which he said should not be in with him .
W***** had the judges pre emp the result cos he did not want Clev to retire as he wants the Hopkins fight so he can earn big money .
The balls are not up in the air cos Hopkins did not come thru .
You are sorely and naively misinformed if you believe anything less

They're both Warren fighters and the general perception (rightly in my opinion) is that Bellew is the bigger ticket seller of the two of them. So surely Warren would want Bellew to win, then take on Hopkins not the other way around?

a crack is a break is a fracture.....its all the same.tht6 wrote:What a load of BOLLOCKS , slight crack or heavy bruising maybe .

but what i will say is that its impossible to fight with broken ribs, if it happens in a fight then adrenaline can get you through, but before a fight i would suggest its impossible, ribs are involved in the basic mechanism of life.....breathing.
cleverely may have had bruised ribs...but broken? do me a favour you lying sheep rogering valley boy!!...
Re: Cleverly Had Broken Ribs Heading Into Bellew Fight!
Injured rib.
Injured hand.
Neither used as an excuse after the fight - I did a bit of digging and found out after. Neither using as an excuse now.
As a bit of an aside, but still related, there were national newspaper boxing writers who never wrote a word at the weekend about this fight. Please, let's not fall into their trap and validate their decision not to cover it by slagging it off.
Consider this:
Prizefighter...ignored by press.
British titles week in and week out...ignored by press.
Barker in Atlantic City...just a couple of writers.
This was on paper and was in reality a fantastic domestic fight with the WBO's bauble as an extra.
The 70s, 80s and 90s was not all John Conteh and Chris Finnegan...go and look at some of the shite fights in tiny, tiny venues with men fighting for peanuts. I remain amazed at the negativity that surfaces on forums.
Adios.

I thought any "cracked" bone is the same as broken or fractured

Let's not forget the champion Cleverly went to Bellew's backyard for this fight, not the other way around...tht6 wrote:What a load of BOLLOCKS , slight crack or heavy bruising maybe .
