Many people need to recognise that if they were half the expert that they thought they were then they'd be a world champ fighter/trainer. There's a reason why some people do it and others watch it..
Anyway, good luck Frankie. Looking forward to you getting in the ring but I think everyone will be more happy to see your problems sorted.

I seem to remember that one of the reasons he moved to Manchester with Arnie was to "get away" from stuff in Birmingham (although I don't know what he fet the need to get away from).carlbcfc wrote:Dioufy wrote:What exactly is bad for him back home? There has also been various trouble whenever he has boxed in Birmingham, not sure who these followers are but I don't get the impression they are the type to "chill out" at the footy !
I also agree re : Amir Khan. I am not a fan of Khan as a person, but you cannot argue with what he has done and how he is doing it (both boxing and commercially).
Re: Hows Frankie Gavin ?
Frankie has God-given abilities. I can't remember who said it, but the quote "pure skill is not enough in this game" is right. It takes hardwork and dedication to get to the top. Frankie might well have all the talent in the world, but if he doesn't get sorted, that will be wasted - mark my words. And to Allahwhatever, are you suggesting that if I worked hard enough I could be in Frankie's position? Utter bollocks. I have a decent job, keep myself in good shape, but I will never have the oppotunity to earn millions in one night. If hardwork was all that was needed, I'd supply that hardwork, no doubt. But like I say, Frankie has god-given boxing skills, whereas I don't. Understand?
Also, why are people so sensitive on here? Frankie does sometimes come across as a melon. I can't remember all the times I'v seen him call someone a prick, myself included. I called him a tosser and knucklehead, which arguably, at the moment, he is, and this place is in uproar. Get some lives.
Didn't he move to Farnell to get away from all the trouble in Brum?

I am pleased to see that Frankie Gavin has popped up on here and I like everyone on here hopes he has got over his personal problems so he can fully focus on life in the ring because I think he is also a terrific fighter with lightening quick hands terrific body punching as well and he looks the real deal in my eyes and I too reckon he could a world champion as the raw ingredients are there he just needs to get his head clear of all the distractions and show us the type of boxing that not only made him a World Amateur Champion but also one of the most talked about prospects in the country.
Keep at it Frankie we are all behind you.

I can see the pros and cons in moving home, more cons than pros for me personally
Be good to have family and a support network, but often that can be a distraction, to put it mildly.
Like Fury, who I think would benefit from a total change of personnel, maybe Gavin would benefit from a move to the US?
I don't know much about the guy other than what I've seen in the ring or read about in the papers.
Hasn't done Khan any harm....

PS I know the USA isn't the be all and end all, but he could concentrate solely on fighting, not "going to see the Blues and relaxing"
Boxing is a short career as well all know...he can watch football and hang out with his pals all he likes when he hangs up his gloves

There is trouble at most events these days. Liverpool seems to get a lot of stick lately on that front. You must be referring to the Mag 7 card, as that is the only occasionin Birmingham there were handbags. Sticking the Welsh next to the Brummies was not a smart move by whoever allowed it. I seem the remember some pratt in red or green windmilling until he got knocked out in spectacular fashion, anybody see that?bripez wrote:I seem to remember that one of the reasons he moved to Manchester with Arnie was to "get away" from stuff in Birmingham (although I don't know what he fet the need to get away from).carlbcfc wrote:Dioufy wrote:What exactly is bad for him back home? Birmingham fans have a reputation of being well behaved these days did you know that? Wembley went off peacefully, Bruges love us to the point of singing "we love you Birmingham", Milwall, West Ham, Leeds, no trouble. I think you are living in the past mate with regards to us Birmingham fans.

Did you go to a boxing gym as a kid and work day in day out honing your skills in hundreds of amateur fights?Dioufy wrote:Frankie has God-given abilities. Did you take thousands of punches in sparring over the past 15 years? Did you have countless injuries? Did you run countless miles? Did you have to make weight for hundreds of fights? Did you have to fight in big arenas?
You didn't do any of this HARD WORK. Frankie did and that is why he is where he is. He put the work in.
Natural talent means nothing if hard work is not put in. Read the book "Talent is Overrated". Success is achieved through HARD WORK. Frankie did that hard work and you didn't. So don't say you would "give anything" to be in his position. You didn't give anything.
Re: Hows Frankie Gavin ?
Nope, you're right. Frankie is JUST a hardworking pro who has the same talent than me, but I 'work' less. You're off your head. You need a combination of talent and dedication to get to the top, in any sport. You telling me otherwise tells me how deluded you are.allahsnackbar wrote:Did you go to a boxing gym as a kid and work day in day out honing your skills in hundreds of amateur fights?Dioufy wrote:Frankie has God-given abilities. I have had a few amatuer fights, too, not hundreds, but some, and in other countries. I still spar now when my thumb is okay - I get punched A LOT in the face. I do it as a hobby and I train very hard for it, but because I don't have much talent, I won't go anywhere. Don't ever assume how hard I train or how Gavin does.
Because the truth is, you don't know.

This just in, man who calls another man he has never met a tosser on the internet, tells others to get a life
Re: Hows Frankie Gavin ?
I am actually perplexed that you don't understand what I am saying. Of course Frankie worked hard as an amatuer - it was impossible for him not to with all those achievements, but what you are struggling to understand is that his talent has helped him progress. You can't honestly believe that Frankie is our only amatuer world-champion, thus, making him our hardest working amatuer ever? If someone has talent, and what other people call in Frankie's case, God-given talent, then the dedication to the game, then they should go far. If said person's only redeeming feature is hard-work and is naturally average in terms of skill then he won't go as far as the guy with the talant and same dedication. To me that is a given. Frankie's pro career is what is stagnating - bad performances and lackluster showings, matched with numerous trainers and problems. A world amatuer champion should not struggle with Curtis Woodhouse (no disrespect). Frankie even admitted that he didn't train properly for Curtis, whereas Curtis trained his bollocks off - end result? The guy with the talant won - imagine if both Gavin and Curtis trained the same for the fight.
Result?
Curtis would've been dominated.

Re: Hows Frankie Gavin ?
I have to say I agee with Dioufy.
Time waits for no-one and Gavin has been shortchanging himself. first and foremost. Obviously he is trying to remedy this and get back on track. A good thing.
Nobody likes having regrets when its all done. We can talk all day long about 'talent' and 'ability' but without the right work ethic, talent only goes so far.
Hopefully, he can pull this around.

Re: Hows Frankie Gavin ?
I don't particulary like Gavin and I predicted he wouldn't go past Euro level after just a few pro fights - I got a lot of stick for that at the time, but what I don't want is to be proved right. It can only be a good thing for English boxing if he dominates numerous weight divisions, but something DRASTICALLY needs to change.

If it's OK to ask, what exactly is the problem with Gavin? There is alot of insinuation and suggestion but I'm not quite sure what the issue is.
Is it his trainining? His lifestyle? His skills?

Re: Hows Frankie Gavin ?
It's futile to compare Gavin to Khan, and your post is full of drivel. Everybody is different, and everybody is the way they are for a reason. Gavin has had a completely different upbringing to Khan for starters. Muslim values and parental/family relationships are vastly different, as are, in general, levels of discipline.Superheavy wrote:Compare Gavin to someone like Amir Khan. Its all just snide gossip, tittle-tattle and bollocks on this thread. I find it disturbing that some people are posting stuff on here not to make any valid, original points, but more like in the peverse knowledge that he might read it. Unfortunately, that's human nature.
He pulled out of a fight at short notice for personal reasons. Big deal, it was a bullshit fight anyway. His promoter made a meal of it, for reasons best known to him.

Did Frankie start shadowboxing when he was delivered in the hospital?
He had to walk into a boxing gym as a kid and learn to throw punches. He had to learn the rules of the game and learn the ins and outs. He had to work day in day out at perfecting how to throw certain shots and how to move. He had to go to training almost every day since he was a young kid and work his body hard. Not to mention the hard sparring where he took shots etc.
You said you would "give anything" to be where Frankie is. I asked you if you worked as hard as he did and you clearly didn't. You are clutching to the "but im not talented enough" line. Well if Frankie had the same mentality that you had he wouldn't be where he is so that is another aspect that you lack.
To say you would "give anything" to be able to "make millions" like Frankie is not true because you did not spend countless hours honing your craft and technique. You did not battle the nerves hundreds of times as an amateur. You did not have to worry about diet etc. You didn't do what Frankie did.
As for Curtis, he has come on leaps and bounds since taking boxing up as a very late bloomer. If he had gotten into a gym at the same age as Frankie and worked just as hard, I have no doubt he would be much much better than he is as a fighter. He doesn't have the experience that Frankie has and that is the difference. I don't expect you to understand that though. How do you know how good Curtis would have been if he got into the gym as a kid and boxed all his life?
Re: Hows Frankie Gavin ?
I know for a fact there are journeymen who train has hard as possible, who practice new things in training, who live the game - then I know boxers who don't work hard as they should, but if both a hardworking journeyman and a lazy world amatuer champion faced-off I know who I'd back.
Talant is fundermental for success - dedication is a very important second. Without talent, you'll not go far, without hardwork you won't go as far as your potential. No matter how hard I, and countless other boxers work, we and those boxers will never have the skills to match Gavin. We won't come close.
Somethings you can't hone and learn; somethings you are born with.

It's a combination. That's why boxing is a game of levels, not a game of who trains the hardest.
