Are you able to say on what grounds an adjournment was asked for and given ?

I would have thought FW would just have to say "here is the contract - have a read of that" and it would be Tony who would need more time to prepare his side of things ?

The Board don't appear to think that it is necessary to give an explanation. One is simply told that an adjournment has been requested and the new date is given.

Contracts work two ways. Either side can say to the other, "here is the contract, read that."

Under the terms of his contract he can fight on other promoters cards but has to cough up 25% of his purse to his manager/promoter

Doesnt sound a lot... but you think if he gets 100k

After tax £65310
Warren tax 0f 25% would be 16327 leaving 48983
ball aprk figure of 10k (?) trainer and promoters fees leaves 40k
then take out your training camp expenses (sparring etc...) looking at taking home 30k

30k is still a nice wedge to us mere mortals, butI'll bet James doesnt live in a 2up 2 down terraed house driving a ford focus.

I think Warren's messing him about because DeGale went against him... he could've easily fought on Froch or Haye bill. I think Groves is his new golden boy and DeGale's falling miles behind!

DeGale still lives with his mum and dad so don't think he has masses of outgoings.

Your accounting is a little off because all boxers are self-employed so they only pay tax on their net profit. Tax comes of the bottom line not off the top like a PAYE person.

So 100k start

Minus 25% per cent managers fee, leaves 75k

Minus 10 per cent of gross for trainer (though I believe some trainers only take 10 per cent of what is left at end) = 65k

Training expenses can be anything but for argument sake say its 5k. This leaves 60k.

Then you take tax off. £34,370 at 20 per cent and £25,630 at 40 per cent (although if he's only fought once in that tax year he'll have a personal allowance of £8,105).

This should leave £42,874 approx.

So if you are an up and coming boxer, and you suddenly decide your promoter/manager is fishy, and not promoting you or managing you as promised, The bbboc can (if they wish) end the contract (the end nothing to pay) or if you are at fault' by ordering you paying your promoter/manager 25% of how many fights you have left with him/her on your contract, so if you fight 3 times a year and earn £12,000 you loose £3,000, a year to your manager/promoter.

Does this mean either way' your manager/promoter can still arrange a fight for you? (ie still under all the obligations set in that contract) when you clearly don’t see eye to eye with him/her, The promoter/manager would simply be able to play with your career for spite as he will not be getting any£££ after it expires' this situation cannot be aloud' and has already been set by law, in the case of, Warren v Mendies.

Why do the BBBoc think they have the right to act as a court of law? as i read that only a court of law can properly settle disputes? And presidents are already set By the court of appeal' re manager/promoter deals ?
Isn’t it a bit like asking the police to investigate the police.

plus the new promoters fee. so warren takes 25% then his new promoter takes his chunk too.

The promoter of the show doesn't take a fee off the fighter, the idea for him is to make money off the show itself. A promoter may charge a fee though if their boxer fights on someone else's promotion.

:TU:

I remember danny williams saying he earnt something like 55k from fighting tyson after fees. I also remember the winner of judah spinks 2 got something like $120,000 before deductions. Bear in mind their second fight was a welterweight unification fight with 3 belts on the line. Mad.

I remember asking jamie moore in the gym something like why are you fighting X, he responded because i have to put food on the table and as much as id like it to be the case i dont do the backstroke in a swimming pool full of fifty pound notes im the back garden. To be honest One of the main reasons i always hoped jamie would be world champion making millions was because i thought he wanted said swimming pool and the theme tune from ducktales as his entrance music....

Incidentally moorseys entrance music was great. Made by his mate / local band. Banging. None of this rapper singing "chunky chunky" or "muslim chanting" a la anthony cassius clay sugar ray jones jnr small, or silly tosser as hes now known. Scream mask my arse, how old are you, 6.

^ I agree with every word of this.

DeGale is a good prospect, but he let allegedly's promotional spiel go to his head, and started walking round like he was the man before he'd done anything as a professional.

And in the build-up to the Groves fight, he was an absolute tool. His 'Ugly Boy' rants were never funny, even the first time he mentioned it. Let alone the 25th time. I think he thought he was being charismatic by going; "Eeurrghh... Groves is an Ugleeee Boy. Ugleeee." But there just wasn't anything funny about it, and he made himself look an idiot. The only thing funny DeGale did was when he lost. (Especially at that bit when he thought he'd won.)

I live in Croydon. If I want to see chavvy people being annoying, I'll go down the high street on a Friday night. As far as I'm concerned DeGale could retire now, and the sport wouldn't miss him.

That is what I couldn't work out.

He has obviously done well with the birds following his Olympic publicity and suddenly woke up thinking he was good looking with a great personality !

I think it's a touch contrived. I have seen interviews with him before his Olympic triumph and he seemed a nice chap.

Maybe it all went to his head?

Cheers for clearing that up. Good info :TU: for that Wales and Wake up call. Have always been interested what a fighter gets NET not GROSS. We're always told what athletes get in gross. It just goes to show you how much a boxer's pay day really is after deductions, trainers' fees; tax; Warren tax ect. I've been telling people that for years. Like When Tyson got £10,000,000 + a fight It weren't even close to that. Plus the rest he got went on his entourage ...The Pac Man also.

Is it the same for a pro footballer? I know they get something like 40% taxed. But they're endorscements would cover that 40% - wouldn't it? :o
