Well he's a bit of a unknown to say the least!
Although Ocampo did victim Wing Heya faster than Orlando Salido he put him down 3 times

A better opponent than Walsh in the first place?daviddee wrote:He's in a training camp to fight Walsh. He pulls out what more to you guys want.. It's best to have a fight to keep him ticking over.. This may well turn out to be a better opponent than Walsh time will tell..
Re: Burns v Jose Ocampo
He's a live underdog IMO.
He'll have no problem making weight at all as he is his own Kerry Kayes.

Re: Burns v Jose Ocampo
Walsh wasn't fully proven at domestic level this guy is along the same lines.. In my opinion neither fight was a live fight at least with this guy he is an unknown quantity

Better opponent than walsh if we are being realistic here lads.
Still pure shit but i think he will give more of a challange walsh would have.

Agreed, it could of been struck of but its not. Its xmas poppy and an outing which he was preparing for. As much as i am dissapointed, with regards to his opponent, if theres any credible points to be taken or scored regarding his opponent, at least they kept him a southpaw given that was what he was preparing for.tancy lee wrote:ok not the best opponent ,but for 2 weeks notice i wouldent expect much ,im glad Burns is getting afight to keep him ticking over and getting a few rounds in ,would i want a better opponent ? yes ,but given what has gone on i will accelt it and just watch it ....
Good Luck burns 1
Its more in his oppoents favour than his tbh, a consumate pro will come through this. As history has shown, that isnt always the case.

your right, how often have we seen the last minute change of opponent coming out on top. unlikely but always risky.RockyJocky wrote:Agreed, it could of been struck of but its not. Re: Burns v Jose Ocampo
They found a soupthpaw which Ricky has been training for previously. I was surprised at this tbh. I wonder what other southpawas were available. In a strange way that impressed me with regards to his promoter/manager. Just like everyone else, i dont like the fight but...milpool wrote:I'm surprised there hasn't been more reaction to this. The optimist in me says that people appreciate that at a fortnight's notice it was going to be difficult to arrange anyone eye catching, the pessimist says that we're all too used to this kind of crap that's constantly being dished up...

Re: Burns v Jose Ocampo
Having just read the thread and looking at various replies. What opponent would others have brought in given Ricky has been in training for 6 weeks (possibly more) till now for a southpaw ?
Who is viable ?

Re: Burns v Jose Ocampo
Given the level of opponent he'll be facing, I doubt them being a southpaw or orthodox will be much of a factor.RockyJocky wrote:Having just read the thread and looking at various replies. I mentioned Ameth Diaz earlier, him Vs Burns in a 10 rounder would have been fine as a keep busy fight.

On what basis?markfightoptions wrote:Better opponent than walsh if we are being realistic here lads.
I've never seen this guy, no-one I've asked has any information on him and his record gives no indication of comparative quality.
At least with Walsh, we knew as much as we needed to know. I can't see how you can possibly say he's definitively a better opponent?

Aye, Diaz would give him some rounds, might test his defence once or twice, wouldn't come to lay down straight away & it would appear will fight anywhere in the world at the drop of a hat.
Be a good value & entertaining scrap Ricky'd be 80% certain to come out of a with a win, as well.
Re: Burns v Jose Ocampo
He also comes with a 'former world title challenger' tag as well, he'd be perfect.Datsue wrote:kevo wrote:Given the level of opponent he'll be facing, I doubt them being a southpaw or orthodox will be much of a factor.RockyJocky wrote:Having just read the thread and looking at various replies. y didnt he just fight rees after murray has pulled out, would make sense,an hes ready an world class...
Re: Burns v Jose Ocampo
I think Rees being world class is the main reason that fight wasn't made...tilt wrote:y didnt he just fight rees after murray has pulled out, would make sense,an hes ready an world class...
Re: Burns v Jose Ocampo
Listen, if someone had offered Ocampo as a sparring partner,he'd be turned down for not being good enough. Please don't anyone with a grain of common sense suggest he's a WORLD title challenger! This is simply about money, the promoter the TV,the manager, Ricky all get another pay day as well as a sanctioning fee for the WBO. If it was a 10 rounder the WBO would get nothing, and they'd go in the huff with the promoter. Ocampo suddenly appears at number 14 in their rankings apparently. On what grounds may I ask? It's fraud, but who's going to take them to court when their HQ is in a banana republic?

Re: Burns v Jose Ocampo
as the saying goes....you pay peanuts.....
and since even the peanuts turn up late, the wise monkeys would steer well clear.
poor ricky...still, no danger of him getting stripped and so if he hangs around long enough, broner will have gone up to 140 and de marco will cease to be a threat and then he can be top of the 135 tree. sparse tree. but nonetheless.

Eddie Hearn came straight out after he postponement was announced to say Ree's would be fighting early next year at no point did he put Gavin's name in the hat to fight for a title.The_Don1 wrote:I think Rees being world class is the main reason that fight wasn't made...tilt wrote:y didnt he just fight rees after murray has pulled out, would make sense,an hes ready an world class...
Re: Burns v Jose Ocampo
hearn said how low the offer was & that rees would make more money defending the european title.
sadly rees' opponent (murray) and burns' opponent (walsh) were both unable to fight.
message - make these fights, make the effort, when the fights are there.
now burns' highly credible run is interrupted - he's upstaged by adrian broner who's only fought once or twice at the weight.
ah well, better opponent next time is the way to think.

Last fought in September. Given a month's notice I imagine he would have been ready.RockyJocky wrote:kevo wrote:Given the level of opponent he'll be facing, I doubt them being a southpaw or orthodox will be much of a factor.RockyJocky wrote:Having just read the thread and looking at various replies.
