I was there for that one too mate. I was a big ferarri fan but he was past his best. Any way the two Krakour boys cam and stood in front of me and my Dad, and dad told me to ask them to moove. We moved instead.

It was - highlighted by the fact that I was sitting next to Bobby Chacon. The ambiance was special too - all the Mexicans in the cheap seats kicking off cos they were still unhappy that Vic had just battered their countryman to within an inch of his life

One fight I fondly remember was watching Lionel Rose knock out Rocky Gattellari at the old barn on 11th December 1967.

Rocky had earlier been KO'd by Sal Burrini in a world title tilt and had moved up to bantamweight, continuing to beat imports. But Lionel's star was on the the rise and it was a hugely anticipated fight. In one corner, was the garrulous, flashy Gattellari and opposite, the quietly spoken and up-and-coming Rose. Most non-Italians at the time wanted to see Rocky get his just deserts for his hubris and perception of fighting mediocre imports, so the Stadium was packed.

Rocky was really a blown up flyweight and Lionel had the best upper body around for a bantam and Lionel used his size to push Rocky around and walked through his lighter jabs. Rocky was taking a pounding and the crowd was cheering Lionel on as his left hooks beat out a tattoo on Rocky. Rocky was gone by round 10 and hung on well into the 13th round, till Lionel hit with a terrific shot, leaving Rocky prone on the mat. Younger brother Lucky, jumped into the ring, screaming in Italian "he's dead" as the very vocal crowd acclaimed Lionel. He wasn't, but Rocky's ring career was basically kaput.

Alfie Sands v George Kapeen,back in 1952 in Newcastle Stadium[packed house] is a fight i still remember ,the cornermen filled their water buckets up with the coins from the shower ,it was a great fight with Alfie winning in the 11th, all the best
