What about the fact that he never comes into the ring in great shape?

:-? He does Perfectly Round :OhYes:

Na John is a Great Fighter and imo Beats most (except Haye) if he was fit like the 1st Fury fight and he's mine didn't play games with him..
Since leaving his trainer CJ Hussin he aint done as good as he could have.. In the 2nd Fury fight both of them was Blowing after 3 rounds, if he had been as fit as the 1st one he woud of had Fury out of there's within 5 rounds.. Heard today he is with a New trainer again, hopefully this brings out the best in John....
In the Fury rematch, Tyson was in terrible shape, but he really proved how much will to win and guts he has.

For the second time, John had glandular fever during the second fight and really shouldn't have been in there but Sky basically said they'd sue if he didn't fight.

Also he was forced into wearing BBE gloves. Tyson had Reyes.

....and Fury had only sparred 10 rounds for that fight and put on a load of weight and so on and yada yada yada.

Some people said McDermott had 'left it in the gym'.

Great boxers are also great athletes and that's one thing McDermott isn't. If he got himself in top condition, he could have achieved a lot more. But, he didn't.

Dude, he had glandular fever, not a cold. He should've been in a hospital bed, not a boxing ring.

He had bitch tits against Danny Williams and Skelton too. Didn't stop him comfortably doing 36 rounds.

36 and a half. The first Skelton fight wasn't that comfortable.

People love to slag John off on here. Regardless of his weight he can do 12 rounds easily. He must be one of the most unlucky fighters on the British scene.

:TU:

He has always seemed a very decent and interesting man in any interviews. He does get in good shape to box 12 rounds, he is a strong fellow and does not have the ideal body shape (yes that's going to get mocked  ). Didn't Don Cockell also have trouble shifting weight? I remember reading he was a fantastic light heavy but the weight would not drop no matter what, maybe the same for John and he's in a boxing match not a body beautiful show (remember the Larry O bout?)

I agree that he has been unlucky and also think he's a pretty decent fighter.

One thing is for certain, if he had the right diet and the right training since he'd turned pro, he could have been in the kind of shape that champions are in.

He's British level at best, but I wonder what he could have done if he had been in peak condition.
