Elaborate, what could he of possibly not have done so far as mere 18 year old boy that you think might make him overrated ?
Hes a mere boy fighting and knocking out men much more experienced and you say hes overrated !
What more should or could he do to deserve his overrating ?
If you compare him to other 18 year old lads i would say hes doing ok ;;-)
I think he's overrated because he's had 8 fights—all against journeymen who would lose to countless prospects—yet many are already claiming that he'll be world class or better than Tyson.

It's a colossal leap from the level he is fighting at now to the level many are assuming he will eventually fight at. He may get there, but I don't think his professional career so far strongly suggests he will.

Well of course its a big leap , but like i said hes just a boy ,so who would you have him fight to justify his overratingness ?

It doesn't make sense to speak of justifying his 'overratingness', because if his rating were justified he wouldn't be overrated.

But to support claims that he'll be world class or better than Tyson, a win over a roughly top 80 opponent would be suitable at this point. Obviously beating higher-ranked fighters would help more, but I don't expect him to, nor do I think he should, move that quickly.
but like i said hes just a boy
If it's claimed he'll be world class or close to it, his performances should support that claim regardless of his age. If they don't, his rating is too high based on what he's actually done.

i just hope peter can keep him grounded and not fly up to quickly thru the ranks... you could move someone like that up to quickly without allowing him to mature and learn essential ring craft.. could be detrimental to his career...

I like Hughie. His style and skill-level is far more advanced at this stage of his career than his cousin Tyson's was. Hughie relies more on lateral movement, defense and speed than Tyson. Because of this, I don't think someone who is even a level or two higher than him would be able to land clean, flush shots on him. Factor in he's only 18, and we ain't gonna see him at his best or strongest in a few years he has alot of potential. He is 6'7" and 240 pounds, by the time he is 21 for all we know he may be 6'10" and 280 pounds. If he can maintain any of that speed that he has now and advances in power and size by reaching fully mature adult status, he will be one heck of a fighter.

Despite his inexperience as a pro, I would imagine he has sparred hundreds of heavyweights from all over the world through his association with Tyson. Plus thousands of rounds with Tyson himself, like it or not a top ten heavyweight, and I bet they go for it. Peter is not thick, his offer will be based on how he has seen Hughie handle good Heavyweights in open sparring.

Him and Tyson spar at full intensity without headguards, in effect a fight, just with larger gloves.

Now that hes said it on facebook , i know its safe to say it was Shane Mcphilbin who i was talking about previously .

He will be boxing Hughie on 14th Sept on undercard of Kid Galahad on C5 , He was originally offered it for undercard of Haye/Fury but they since said they have plans for hughie on that date .

I like the fact he fights regularly, it's like the old-school Mexicans. People complain about his oppanants but it better him fighting Joe Bloggs than nobody... he's only young

Can Shane get back down to cruiser? He is too small for the heavies and could still get a few good results among men his own size.

Thats quite a worrying fight for me especially as McPhilbins starting to get stopped these days, moving up to HW against a strong puncher :-?

:TU: Shane seems a really sound fellow and boxed well against people is own size/weight; his lack of experience has counted against him; he could get hurt at heavy and that isn't something I'd like to see; I'd like to see him doing alright at a weight he trains down to, not get a beating at a weight he eats up to.

Yeah Shane seems like good honest pro who just loves to fight,i felt sorry for him during the whole Maccarinelli affair and the short round and to see him get stopped Chris Keane especially was quite telling as to where he may be at in his career, still he was a British champ and thats no mean feat :salut:

McPhilbin hasn't boxed well against anyone! His fight with Williams was the worst British title fight I've seen at any weight, and he was getting stuffed until he landed that last minute showcloser. He's brave, and he can bang a bit, but he has minimal skills and not much conditioning. Fury will box his ears off; it's a step up from his competition so far and a good progression, but McPhilbin has no chance.

Shane originally campaigned at heavyweight , in which he reached a prizefighter semi final losing to michael sprott .

Personally id prefer shane at cruiserweight though , although in the amateurs he was a far bigger unit and lost a lot of weight in eventually getting down to cruiser , i think he was about 17 stone at one point , if i remember rightly he lost in the latter stages of the ABA's to Tyson Fury .
