Hennessy got you your world title shot and also got you a vacant title fight despite coming back of a defeat - not you or Eddie.

One more thing, Froch was claiming that he has won every major version of the world title... so is he dismissing Calzaghe's reign completely then? Aint seen the WBO belt around his waist yet.
One more thing, one more thing - Don't stop there stu. I'm sure you can dig deeper ? :OhYes:

What about Froch's tabloid cocaine bust ?

Or cheating on his new wife, masturbating himself blind into his Skype webcam before getting in his 4x4 and breaking the sound barrier before piling into a pedestrian before stepping out over his body and declaring himself the best offensive fighter in the world ?

Froch did his job and forced the stoppage - and now everyone who doesn't like him are crying they "had their dreams taken away from them" to quote Groves.

Whatever next, hanging an effigy of Howard Foster from a lamppost ?
Nobody has suggested that being an "arrogant asshole" is the worst characteristic you can have - but PR asked the question - and it got me thinking thats all. Never seen him as arrogant before now, whether the success has got to his head or if always was one is what I discussing.

Thought he talked very well post Dirrell, never really got on his high horse when people questioned the decision or tried to make it anymore than what it was - a stinker of a fight.... That was mainly the Froch fans.

To be fair though these are what make a Brit British. 8)

The greatest sporting personality this country has ever had was Barry Sheene who was a world champion, shagged numerous women(even though he was with Steph), got smashed off his face on god knows what, use to hire cars to race and trash them for fun before giving them back(often written off) BUT all that said he was never an arsehole with it and that's the difference, Carl comes across to me as a family man, he loves his missus, his kids, his mum, brother and as we all know he gives his all in the ring, has fought the best fighters in his division and yes I agree with you Gomez, it isn't Carls fault that the fight got stopped early but everytime he opens his mouth(and this is nothing new it's been going on long before he won a world title) he comes across as a gobshite and that is why people get on his back.

As I said in another thread I'm not going to stop supporting him when he fights regardless of who the opponent is but it isn't going to stop me cringing every time he opens his trap.

It is interesting. For years people have said that if Froch was known by the public, he would be loved, and the fact he had loads of his fights on Primetime was a real shame

It seems now people are getting to know him (not personally of course) they think he is a tosser.

Maybe he is bitter that he had these great fights, yet he isn't a big name and hasn't made the mega bucks other fighters have??
Yes, and maybe having a bit of a yes man in Eddie in his corner and Sky drooling over him has got him believing his hype somewhat.

People do Forget, yes SOME of his glory nights were on Primetime but he was on BBC at the start of his career and his ultimately glory night was live on ITV. This was also a time when the Super Middleweight/Light Heavyweight devision in the UK - in terms of Joe Public - was much bigger as Joe Calzaghe was still just about around (ish). There were great opportunities, but he did a Groves.

Hennessy delivered some great opportunties, no I cannot fault what Eddie is doing to him, but he had some opportunties with Hennessy to be a huge name.... don't like how Mick has been completely dismissed.

It is because boxing is a sport of individuals. We are following people in their lives, and we want to feel good for them when they win. If a man comes across as a total bellend, most won't have any time for them, even if they respect the talent. Why would you feel happy for their success?

Pantomime bad guys are different. We all know it is bullshit, but we play along and hope they lose, or win, depending on the person

oh come on, mate.

we're supposed to give him credit, just for not having had a cocaine bust, or getting caught getting kinky on-cam?

just FYI, mate; it's perfectly possible to be a total asshole even if you haven't had a tabloid cocaine bust.

essentially, and this is the obvious agenda you're touting:

it is perfectly possible not to be Amir Khan or Joe Calzaghe, and still be an asshole.

Maybe he has changed as a character. Either way he has blown a great chance of becoming a national superstar. And all he needed to do was shake Georges hand and give him some credit

Yeah he comes across as arrogant but that's why he never ducks anyone and has fought everyone. Obviously his attitude is going to turn some people against him, but personally I find it amusing and it doesn't bother me at all. He's not the first boxer to be a bit full of himself and possess a degree of arrogance, and as I said, that contributes towards him being a top fighter.

Thought it was hilarious on Saturday when he said 'that's why they all love me' as the crowd booed. He says some stupid stuff at times and comes across a bit high on himself but personally I find it quite funny, not to mention he's a machine in the ring..

I don't really care what he's like. I'm not planning to go for a pint with him. I just want to be entertained if I buy his fights. He more than fulfills that obligation so I haven't got a problem with him.

Only seems the other week that it was George being labelled the arrogant arsehole after his ringside appearance. Loads of posters were pointing out his attitude change post degale. Fickle fickle boxing fans.

They HAVE to be arrogant to do what they do. I'd have thought that was obvious. Khans got it, hatton had it, benn had it, Eubank had it, Naz had it, Lennox had it, Hayes got it....and the cream of the next generation will as well. Some may hide it well, but underneath every great fighter it burns away. That's y they can't hack packing it in.

There's a difference between confidence and arrogance though mate. You're confusing the two things. Some are just supremely confident in themselves whereas others truely think the sun shines out of there ass.

'consumate pro', you're damning him with faint praise there, surely, where only international superstar would suffice. i think he may retire due to the lack of respect you just showed him, or at the very least refuse Groves a rematch.

Not confusing anything mate. Every single fighter I've listed was accused of being arrogant at one point or more in their career. And they were as well. And that's just the Brits. To get to the top u need more than confidence, u need an ego. It's why they all end up rewriting their history and talking in the third person. Confidence alone wouldn't pull u through what Carl went through on Saturday.

I've come to like the way he is now playing the arrogant heel.

Of course I cringed when he refused to shake George's hand, but let's be honest here, just like George said he would take centre of the ring and force Froch back - Carl by the same token said when I stop you, don't think I will shake your hand.

I know people love a romantic ending, where they both embrace and talk into each other's eyes before sitting on the ring apron with their arms around one another, paying each other huge compliments before getting a standing ovation..

..but Carl ain't like that, he is a bad ass, a proper mother trucker and an arrogant international superstar iron man.

Embrace it ! :D

PS- I dont forecast the BBC sports personality award coming to Nottingham this year though.

The best boxer though there are some other very good athletes; he doesn't have a very appealing media presence and doesn't seem to do much outside of boxing (dancing excepted) to get a genuine broad base appeal. He's a bit surly and rough around the edges for an award like that; can you imagine the acceptance speech?
