I said on another thread, Broners career may end up not to dissimilar to James Toney's. In terms of talent James is far superior but there approach to conditioning outside the ring is something they seem to share. Broner gets way to big, and i dread to think of the damage he did crashing down to SFW.
He should have gone to 140, but he decided there was far better risk vs reward at 147, and he never gave himself a chance to grow into the weight. The Paulie fight should have told his handlers alot, putting him in with Maidana next was strange to say the least. He never even tried to outspeed him, and he never stood a chance of beating him on the inside with size advantages ala his best performance Demarco.

Yeah but you had been preparing for a fight around the same time for the previous 6 week, all that changed was the opponent. You didn't fancy it and rees stepped up. Also he was your mandatory at 130 where you were quite happy to fight absolute nobodys until broner was made mandatory, then out of nowhere you couldn't make the weight!! Glad Broner got beat but no way does burns ever beat him.

Ricky struggled real bad to make weight against Cook the decision to move up was made during that camp

broner was impressive at lightweight for 3 fights, one where the other guy came down to SUPER FEATHER, as well as the Mexican and rees. broner was great as long as he could be a big lightweight, which was never going to be long. getting tempted up to welter by HBO and winning unimpressively and sluggishly vs malignaggi hinted where things would go wrong - I just didn't think it'd be vs maidana, who produced such a memorable performance and obviously a much bigger punch than malignaggi, one of the absolute weakest punchers of his time.
if broner moves down to 135, what will be left of him? if he moves down to 140, what clout or credibility does he have? might as well go for the immediate rematch with maidana, prepare with better tactics, rather than going in in a bubble. engage with the realities of combat and don't just think you can walk a guy down or counter someone's head off.

After preparing for a fight, being 4 days from fighting and on the weight, then not fighting, you have to take time off to rest after as if you had actually been in the ring. There was never a fight scheduled for February, it was Walsh, then Ocampo, then no one 4 days out, in December. Why go away from home for a unification fight with 6 weeks notice?

I want him to move to 160lbs and fight GGG.

Then move up to light-heavy & challenge Kovalev.
I would probably shell out for ringside tickets were this fight to be made. Boxing promoters take note.

Ok Huge is a bit extreme. But is he not CEO of a music label and doing well. I think he plays at boxing in the same way he plays with rapping. I'm not saying he is good but to be touring and playing at sold out venues he has to be doing something right

The only reason he would be getting to do that is because he's friends with some top rappers. He wouldnt be doing that shit on his own.

He believed he was unbeatable and made the mistake of surrounding himself with "yes men" and hangers on. In between rounds his corner appeared pretty clueless tactically, and more worrying they didnt have Broners respect - christ he told his trainer to "chill the f*** out i got this" between rounds 2-3 after first knockdown. Hes like a spoilt over indulged child - soon as the going got tough he started complaining and feigning injury. Actually couldnt believe he didnt get a point off for persistant fouling, even though he was warned over and over.
Glad he lost, had feeling maidana may get jobbed on cards around mid rounds.
The future, 135 if he can. Gamboa? Vasquez? How many fights before lomachenko is up at 135?
As a side. Did anyone else find the pre-fight interview showing the kids "backyard boxing" uncomfortable?

I can tell your hurt that your boy browner is a disappointment. Who's to say how much he makes or has made. It isn't really big money yet that's for sure and I don't and never have thought he would be a star. He's pretty poor really. I was really happy when maidana smashed him to the floor leaving him looking scared and confused. Even if he goes to 140, the best down there will beat him just as Marcos did.

Lucas Matthysse would hammer him as well. I always thought that Ricky, performing at his best, would beat Broner by jabbing his head off and moving, like he did against Katsidis. Broner is hype.
Hilarious that because he has did some truly shite rap stuff of YouTube, now he's a rap star lol the guy is a joke! He is making peanuts. Just because he talks shit like Floyd doesn't mean he makes cash like him. Floyd's big pay days started after the DLHoya fight. Broner has blown it.

But Broner has special patented Lefty magic that has nothing to do with his physical advantages!!!1111ONE!!! Because physical advantages aren't really advantages! As long as Lefty says so!!!!
HE WILL RETURN/MAIDANA WAS ON DRUGS/CHAVEZ JR BEING TWICE THE SIZE OF HIS OPPONENTS HAS NEVER AFFECTED THE OUTCOME OF HIS FIGHTS etc etc etc

He was about 11.5-12 stone max, let alone 16 haha.
He not a huge rapper, the rap tour he was on he was the opening act of about 6. I very much doubt he makes very much at all from his music. If he wasnt a boxing i doubt anyone would know about his rap songs.
As far as the weight arguement he needs to get down to 140 at least. I dont think thats his main problem, he needs to be more active. He doesnt throw enough punches.

For a top athlete to be anywhere near 2 stone overweight is a disgrace

Didnt Joe Calzaghe used to weigh 14 stone when he wasnt fight?

He was only a couple of lbs away from being a stone heavier on fight night compared to weigh in! So an extra 14lbs on top of that when he hasnt been in a 12 week camp isnt unreasonable.
Wasnt margarito something 166 when he got in the ring for a welterweight fight once? Or did i exaggerate / imagine that.

That was just a natural weight for him, all fighters put on weight between fights and all Italians like their food. He made 12st, but it had to be done over time to get him down to it. He could walk around just above 13st, but that would be in top shape without trying to make weight.

Yup.
Paul Williams managed to get up to twelve stone on the dot when he fought... Fvck. That southpaw Puerto Rican who beat him. In the rematch, I mean, Williams weighed twelve stone on the night.
& according to our Lefty, being twice as big as the pudendum in front of him wasn't any advantage anyway. In fact, it probably hindered him, in Lefty land.

I was sure you were all over Broner recently, talking about him being the next big star....I'm not wasting time to check back though so if a was wrong fair enough.
I didn't say he had no ability at all, he's at best a top ten 140lbs fighter, never a true champ though. No shame in that, unless you act like the second coming

he's beaten hand picked, poor champs to get his titles. The best he's faced have beaten him or run him close, PDL and Mallignaggi, who i had winning by 3 points and 1 point respectively.
