Somebody needs to tell Eddie that this isn't some dodgy copperbox show, this is meant to be proper

Billy let's be fair here.. I was at the last prospect show and I'm first to admit that it wasn't great. But in fairness you are saying the standard and level of fighter is so much weaker?? I disagree, I think it's about the same. All of the Burns undercard will be poorly matched fights at domestic level.. I'm sure I seen on Facebook that there is a good few 50/50 fights on the prospect bill.. Also there are 12 fights I believe which for a casual fan may offer more value for money.. I think the Ricky show needs a couple more undercard fights.. We will see who John gets and maybe one more.. I would like to be proved wrong and Ricky got the undercard he deserves

Billy I think you are being a wee bit out of order there, Prospect shows might not have the big names that will be on Ricky's bill but then again they don't have the Sky money to help or a World Title fight as the headline act!!!

The undercard for Ricky's fight should be compared to a similar show with similar budgets? Like another world title fight on Sky or even allegedly?

The Prospect shows would be better compared to the shows in the Gorbals or Paisley etc

I just hope they get one one more decent fight on the bill just so the card has some depth.

That is not taking anything away from the other Scottish fighters on the undercard I just think 1 more good fight would make a good undercard into a very good undercard.

I dont Dave with the exception of Ian all The Scottish lads on Ricky's undercard are of a better quality than the Ravenscraig show, why it going on the night before I will never know,I'm sure the attendance figures will reflect as to why another date would have been more appropriate

All the shows are crap in Scotland to be fair, Both Morrison and Gilmour are clueless, Billy has more faces than a rubix cube when it comes to the boxers and their abilities, Eddie Hearn has no intention of helping Scottish boxing as everybody and their dog knows that once Ricky gets beat that sky in Scotland is gone. Morrison only intention is to have his fighters on the undercards wether they are in with a chance or not and who can blame him but Hearn should sit on a fence and maybe listen to what the fans want and show an interest in domestic boxing up here:)

AYe i agree with that point , shame its that way but lets not kid ourselves.

Billy why can't you promote Scottish Boxing in general instead of taking digs at other promoters and their shows. The sport up here needs some positivity and as head trainer of the main boxer in Scotland you are in a strong position to do this.

Without Ricky Burns there's no money to be made in Scottish boxing, that's why Eddie Hearn isn't interested, when one main event fighter fades, will there be another waiting in the wings like in Liverpool, Sheffield and Manchester?

I know it aint gonna happen and I always mention it but I would love for the old friday fight nights to come back.
Seriously how much can it cost to televise a couple of hours of boxing and show decent live British title fights from all over the UK.
Some of the best domestic fights I have seen on TV and attended were on these small hall kind of shows.

Hate that sky and Hearn are only about big shows.

Havent the Friday night fights,moved to the Saturday night , which in turn morphed into the current Arena shows we get. Sky hold all the cards on this argument, BN could push it and fill that void, but they dont seem to have any plans to cover the small halls set up as oppose to covering the oversees shows, which proberly have less overheads .

I know he's my brother but I would say my brother Matty is as good if not better than David Brophy, Michael Roberts, Scott Allen and Ryan Collins?

Where would you rate Matty against them quality wise?

I'm sure they had the sports facility booked before the Ricky fight was announced and it isn't always easy to get dates. I'm also sure that Paul Graham would have rather it wasn't the day before but I've heard tickets are going really well for it.

I would agree with Dave McAllister Matty is just as good, I think Scott Allan is a big hope due to the limited amount in his division and his overall marketability if I am honest, I dont rate Brophy, Roberts etc any higher than Ronnie Clark, These guys are getting a massive hand with the promotion from Morrison.

Any opponent named for Brophy Billy? Plus is Jon Simpson on the bill and at what weight ?

I'm sure if the boxer was good enough and strong minded enough then he would let his promoter/manager aware that he has the right to be trained by whoever he wants? The promoter /manager might not like it but people work alongside people they don't like every day and as long as the £'s add up there is always a way!!!

I think at some point in the future maybe after ricky is gone all of the promoters will realise they will have to work with each other.

David they've been saying that since I was a lad that won't happen, the bottom line with certain managers/promoters is if you train with x y or z then you'll be kept out the ring you know it happens mate as does everyone else and it don't matter if your strong minded or not.

So if Eddie Hearn or Alex Morrison were to fall out with you would Ricky just get rid of you? I think not because you 2 have a good relationship and Ricky makes money for Eddie/Alex so they would just get on with it because it makes business sense.

Sometimes the boxers and the people around them are too nieve and do not realise that they have a say in their careers and a boxer signed to a promoter not making money is useless for the promoter too.

I dont think its the cost thats the problem, its that fact that they will make no money from them.

Brophy has sparred really well this week 11 rounds with John Ryder and round with a few other middle/super middles
He's prepared to travel for quality sparring is has done 700 tickets and can fight any promoter would welcome him to there show

Eddie good luck to Iain and yourself, Iain should be boxing on bigger shows mate and showcasing his talent but you already know that!
It must be hard for him to motavate himself after running Satchell close then having to box on small shows, feel for him coz he's a very talented lad and wouldn't like to see it go to waste

The Ravenscraig bills are value for money, the one the day before the Burns fight gives fighters a run out as many will be itching to fight after the new year. Butcher needs to be kept bust as he is on the verge of a title shot prob in his next 2 fights.

So many guys making their debut on the Ravenscraig show, really looking forward to it. Paul and Gary do a great job with these shows.


The burns bill aswell has the local talent with hopefully Eddie saying a few of the guys will make a step up in class. Such a shame about big Stephen so it will be interesting to see who fills the void.

IF Ricky loses then i do not believe its the last fight up here for Sky. There will always be the Burns comeback bills and big Stephen selling 1000 tickets could easily fill the Kelvin Hall or something along with a few other good fighters and fights like John Simpson.

Personally i think Ricky will win, Crawford has it all to prove and has looked good at an inferior level. If hes as good as many say then its a touch fight. Ricky is tested, Crawford is not. I would always go with the tested fighter.
