Get that totally, Davie. Nobody is willing to lose money, but remember, fans don't make a profit on their investment.
If you always do what you've always done, then you'll always get what you've always got.

If somebody doesn't try something different, nothing will ever change and every few years somebody like us will be having this exact same conversation.

Jamie,

I'm so proud of Ronnie and the following he has amassed is staggering considering coming to Boxing so late. Its all about building a fighters profile and for all Sky/Matchroom failings they do this with great effect.

Take some hits and invest in the long term. Easy to say when it's not my money but business men don't become successful going with the flow.

JamieM wrote:One thing I do know about is ticket sales, I can talk regarding ronnies, for his last fight it was a struggle to sell tickets, ronnie has a set fans base of 100 I'd say for away fights, ronnie sold around 400-500 for dundee as he sold pretty much every ticket that was bought bar 70 from jamie wilson in caird hall! Problem is that when the opponent isn't named he struggles big time, and usually when its a Latvian name o or whatever they all think it's a walkover, biggest fight for Ronald would be Michael Roberts in dundee, everyone knows how long it's been talked of and his name is just well known within dundee due to it being a decent fight, aberdeen was a decent night but problem was the price went up and think less fights, and not as good fights , matty being injured and savage being cut didn't help, although Rogowski was a good test for Darren for me was only decent match up, rhys pagan puts me to sleep that night, was boring as hell, aberdeen has so much to give and honestly can be successful but as a fan I would want more value for money , ronnie in a good tough fight, Darren now stepping up as he's got ability and an I jury free matty topping the bill, marek is improving every fight also
Were you up at the show before the last one mate? Because we took the prices down for this show!! The balcony seats were £10 cheaper than they were then. Rhys Pagan was only brought in last minute because Scott Ross got into bother in Alness and couldn't come down.

It wasn't our fault that David Savage got cut and in the timeframe Rogowski was a good opponent, Ronnie's opponent was never going to be anything special because his big fight out of the 2 is the one on Monday. We couldn't afford to take the chance on a dangerous fight where he could get injured before this one. Remember that if everything goes to plan then Ronnie will be much better placed to get the bigger fights after Monday. That's why we got him a southpaw about the same size as Craig Evans so we could work on some things that would work against someone of that dimensions, gave us another fight working in the corner together and also got Ronnie some money so he could carry on his training for this fight.
Marek was in the bill because he also trains out of our gym and it is good to keep him on the bills.

I understand as a fan and Ronnie's brother you want to see him fighting good opponents every fight but there is more to it than just getting a name etc like i have said before it has to make sense in both boxing and business terms. I would love to take Darren and Matty down to box on a show in Dundee and hopefully it can be done, I'd like to see if somebody in Dundee could help back Ronnie and get a promoter's license and take the pressure off of Ronnie if shows could be put on and he could concentrate on the fighting side of it.

Yeah mate I understand and I kinda just put across what people say to me regarding feedback, I explaoned it the exact same as you and understand ronnie needed a fight to work on things like we spoke about down in coventry , I think matty was a huge loss to the card , I was at the St andrews when savage got cut and why he was fighting that close to the fight with that kinda opponent bemused me, as for dundee support for ronnie he has a couple of good sponsors but as a fighting city this place has no chance, there's a rivalry between fans with mikey towell
Who is a welter and ronnie is a super feather, it's like a playground , whereas when mikey fights we support mikey and myself pay to go to dinner show to see mikey his fans would walk out a venue rather than watch ronnie, there morons and without mikey , ronnie won't get a dundee show, but they don't realise without ronnie , mikey won't get one, ronnie sold more in 1 week for prospects show than mikey sold in 5 for his fight v rhys pagan, without everyone on same page it won't happen

I know Tommy has got him good fights but when he won the Commonwealth he should have gone on. Now he has the British he's fighting in the away corner! Crazy, mate. Just nonsense from a fans point of view. What's even more ridiculous is he vacates his belt to a promoter who he isn't signed too! He could well be fighting for that belt again as the away fighter. How is that beneficial for Willie?
We don't need Burns to have shows in Scotland, plenty lads with decent followings to fill out medium sized venues.
Limmond/Cornish/Clark/Traynor/Matty would fill any venue in Scotland. Also, guys like Boxing Evolution are more than willing to come up and broadcast it live.
I've spoken to Lee about this briefly, it's the new media platform and they don't cost much. Great way to get our fighters out to a wider audience. Online streaming gives you an unlimited audience.
There's so much more than can be done imo.
I'm just a guy on the street but there's 1000s like me willing to support the country's boxing, just needs somebody to take up the challenge.
You do for a big show, ticket sales might not be a problem, but good luck finding a TV channel that will televise a show from Scotland without him on it.

Most exciting boxer in Scotland - Towell. When was his last fight and where! Got to build him up , fighting at least every month , starting in Dundee area.

There's not a boxer in Scotland , fighting ANYBODY, who could fill even half of Braehead.
Things just go along in phases , Buchanan, Watt, Harrison,Burns, somebody will come along in a few years, possibly Towell?

Towell is really exciting to watch but for me it's gonna be like Simpson, I hope he makes a lot of money as when you watch him he does take shots, against kev mcauley he took big shots in round 10, as I said I go watch him , proof is in the pudding when the step up happens, ronnie has fought 3 top 10 super feathers after evans this Monday, Ryan walsh who has fought for british at weight under, while having no ezpierienxe. Mikey works on tightening that defence and working off a jab we may have our next domestic champ as he's relentless, but still needs to be tested in which Tommy will not rush

Expe, you do know that all cards are not made for TV don't you? Or are you 'one of them'?

Not sure what 'one of them' is referring to, but no promoter will do a big show without TV, unless they fancy throwing their money away.

If you bothered to read anything I've put I said about building a fighters profile.
Which then can be used as leverage to TV companies. There's more shoes around the country not televised than are.
You have lots to say dissing things, any fool can do that.
Why do you even bother on here?

And how are they supposed to build a fighters profile without TV? Big fights are needed to do it, without TV, the money isn't there to put title fights on. It's about more than just how many tickets they sell or how many people in Scotland know their name, if they can't pull in the required viewing figures, TV channels aren't interested, that's why Burns is needed, because he's the only fighter in Scotland capable of headlining a show on TV.

big draw yes he is, then willie limond then Simmo and Brophy

Ye billy, I get he's a big draw. He's not the axis on to which all Scottish boxing should rotate around.

People need to move on and have a vision for the future.

Scott doesn't have a licence to box at present you forgot about that!
Scott was a big ticket seller though my simple answer is Scott never boxed in front of 10,000 in Scotland not once but three times like Ricky. Mitchell,Beltran and Crawford
6k was the most at Braehead

with respect john Thain isn't a big ticket seller, Craig has went so far back who would pay to see him fight a journeyman now?
Has David says Matty is a big seller though if I remember right TV as only been to Aberdeen once that was for Lee in his euro challenge

Yer full of belief and forward thinking there, Billy ffs! It's guys like you that should be pushing promoters and media to get fighters out there and guys like me(fans) will support and help fund it.
Social media is a terrific platform for fighters, look at Curtis Woodhouse. Bang average boxer, big profile.
I've no doubt that's what got him the decision against Hamilton.

Like I have said, cost very little to get a media outlet to stream a card from Aberdeen. Fighter/trainer/promoter interviews. That's what needs to be done.

I hope Davie takes me up on the next Aberdeen show, I'd love to get that streamed and give our fighters a bigger platform and a chance to talk to fans.
Look at IFL, fighters clambering to be on it because it boosts their profile. I'm all for the historic boxing ways but the sport can keep it's integrity and move with the times.

Scottish boxing should be bigger and taking some of the money that UK boxing is generating at the moment.

How much do you think it costs? cause its not as cheap as you might think. i got qoutes a while back for basic streaming and companies were wanting a few grand and that was just for broadcasting and web stuff, no advertising and that .More advance stuff would be more.

Now factor in a small show, were margins are razor thin, the cost aint going to help plus it could take away ticket sales away from fighters as some might just watch the stream .

boxing is a business as much as a sport, which i hate to say it but you cant hide that fact. And at Grassroots level this is more than true

I might be getting mates rates but why would you think i would post that if I didn't have the full facts?

Yes it's a business and it's struggling because there's not enough people with answers and too many people like yourself, with nothing but questions.

You're not grasping the model here, build a fighter profile which benefits the long term. Matchroom, for all their faults, do this very, very well. Fan zone/twitter ticks/IFL vids at every opportunity. Their fighters are never out of the news long. This is where Frank is failing. He's struggling to come to terms with this new way of giving fans more access.
It's not all about closed doors gyms.
Short term solutions are just that, you don't fix anything.
