"Fres Oquendo will get to face the winner of Chagaev vs. Pianeta within 120 days in a WBA title bout to take place in Germany. The WBA has informed the parties that it will approve the settlement and issue a resolution implementing these conditions"

Is Browne gonna keep waiting, or should he be keeping busy?

Browne needs another fight. He should find someone to defend his Commonwealth strap against. To be honest, I don't see him being Chagaev.

Lucas states that he will be going to the WBA convention this weekend to see where he stands

Nothing yet I think he didnt end up going due to his kid getting injured and had to be in hospital for 3 days or something

It must be tough working so hard and getting messed around like that. Hope his kid is alright. Shouldn't Ricky Hatton be looking out for him?

There is allot of frustrations towards ricky hatton from lucas for not letting him fight

Lucas down to 22 on boxrec with no fights lined up in 2015 at all
Joseph Parker is up to 20 already, with at least 2 more fights lined up for 2015

How long is Lucas gonna sit there and trust Hatton?

The young guys are charging up the rankings and Lucas is waiting on a dodgy alphabet soup

don't be a drama queen!

more whingeing about nothing.

lucas should grateful for where he is.

busted by buster - might be being a little dramatic

That's exactly what Hatton will be saying to him.

He's a fighter, who trains hard, and he hasn't got anything lined up for 2015, and is constantly saying he wants to fight.
If and when he gets the shot, how is it going to help him that he hasn't fought for so long?

Chagaev could have tuned up nicely with Pianeta and Oquendo while Lucas is hitting the bag.

Lucas Browne has relinquished his Commonwealth title.

“Holding the Commonwealth title was a huge honour for me and I do not relinquish the belt easily,” Browne said.

“However, I’m currently the mandatory challenger to Ruslan Chagaev’s WBA heavyweight title and that is now my focus".

“I am on the verge of becoming Australia’s first ever heavyweight world champion and I cannot wait to win that in the near future”.

Browne’s manager Matt Clark continued: “Lucas has accomplished something that will go down in Australian boxing folklore. We are relinquishing the title to keep it active and allow

“Big Daddy” to focus on securing the world title".

After Chagaev steamrolled Pianeta in one round, I do not give Big Daddy much of a chance. Chagaev has a great chin, good power and is a great technical boxer.

It was an impressive performance by Chaegev. But how many rounds do you think Pianeta would have lasted with Browne?

Good question. Pianeta lasted into the fourth against Klitschko, and technically he is sound. Chagaev messed him up because he got inside - he had to, he is considerably smaller than Pianeta - and landed a great hook to the temple. I think Browne wouldn't have gone inside like Chagaev did and to be honest I don't think he would have blasted Pianeta out as easily.

Big Daddy hasn't fought since November last year (against Welliver), I hope he gets a run out soon! He is great to watch.

I think Browne would be more patient with Pianeta and take longer to put him away. But we saw once Pianeta felt Chaegev's power his desire fell away and I think Browne would have the same effect and once Browne sensed that he'd be in for the kill.

Should be only two obstacles remaining now. Chaegev getting Oquendo out of the way (again) and Browne's thumb healing.

Finally some progress regarding Chagaev vs Oquendo by the look of things >>>

According to Oquendo’s representative Thomas Tsatas, the fight could now happen in the next two months , with the winner then set to immediately be pitched in against mandatory Lucas ‘Big Daddy’ Browne in early 2016.

“Negotiations between Chagaev and Oquendo are ongoing, but they are going well,” Tsatas exclusively told World Boxing News.

“John Wirt is negotiating with Timur Dugazaev who has been very accommodating and an agreement should be reached this week.

“We have a date of October 17th in mind in Germany and It will be for the WBA 'regular' Championship. The winner will fight Lucas Browne thereafter.”

Considering how his last fight went after such a long layoff, he really needs at least one more fight between now and then if he's to have any shot at the winner.

True but a rangy 7' 1" fighter is going make anyone look awkward
Especially with his holding.
U cant train for that.
Lucas would be more than competitive against any highly rated heavyweight around now and he deserves a shot at one :box:

Any highly rated heavyweight is going to KTFO Lucas! He probably needs to wait for his chance at the big one, then after getting KTFO take his money and open a bar up somewhere in the bush, never to be seen again in boxing. He comes across as a a nice guy though so good luck to him.

There's no doubt Browne needs to get another fight in prior to meeting Chagaev early next year. He needs to get his thumb right ASAP. Get some seriously hard work done in the gym and then beat someone in impressive fashion - preferably a southpaw.

Broken fingers and thumbs takes about 9 month before returning to the ring on average of course that includes like 6 weeks training

It will depend on the severity of the break. Provided it isn't a bad break I think you'll find Browne will be back hitting things - at least in a controlled manner - in about 8 weeks.

That is true but you wouldn't want to to risk it and get in the ring too early

For sure. But they are virtually in countdown mode now and will have to time Browne's return to the gym and his return to the ring for another lead-up fight, with an eye on the calendar and Chagaev early next year.

I do agree that he needs to fight before going for the title he needs to be challenged to get him prepare for the big fight
