Re: Browne vs Chagaev finally finalized for March 5th in Grozny
The parties were given 30 days to get this signed. Is the 30 days up yet? Not hearing much.

Re: Lucas Browne vs Ruslan Chagaev

Re: Lucas Browne vs Ruslan Chagaev
According to Fes Oquendo's Chicago promoter Bobby Hitz, Oquendo's contract contained a clause for a mandatory WBA world title rematch within 120 days.
It appears a New York court took the same view and ruled Chagaev must fight Oquendo again before fighting anyone else.
Chagaev's promoter Timur Dugazaev responds with “I don’t know how Oquendo can sue me in New York and how a US court can even rule on that,”
At the risk of oversimplifying things, the Chagaev vs Oquendo contract either contained a rematch clause or it didn't. How hard is that to establish? Probably harder than it is to enforce I'm guessing?
Boxing contracts are often worth less than toilet paper.

Re: Lucas Browne vs Ruslan Chagaev
If the court is indeed siding with Oquendo the problem for Chagaev is the court can order the WBA to strip Chagaev of his secondary belt and have somebody else face Oquendo for it.

The court have sided with Oquendo. The issue now is how much power they carry.Perseus wrote:If the court is indeed siding with Oquendo the problem for Chagaev is the court can order the WBA to strip Chagaev of his secondary belt and have somebody else face Oquendo for it.
If the contract had a rematch clause in it there ought to be a rematch. It's time boxing contracts weren't ignored after the fact just because the contents no longer suits somebody.
Contracts are contracts. Or why bother having the bloody things?
Re: Lucas Browne vs Ruslan Chagaev
Chagaev is claiming that in there contract the high court in Russia is the only court that gets to decided what happens not the court in New York
if that is the case Oquendo should go to Russia
i dont really get it though

Re: Lucas Browne vs Ruslan Chagaev
Of course that is what they would say when the ruling is not in their favor.bennyaha1 wrote:Chagaev is claiming that in there contract the high court in Russia is the only court that gets to decided what happens not the court in New York

They would be saying something different if the court told Oquendo to pack sand.
A court in New York once stripped Lennox Lewis of his WBA title.
Authority is not the issue..........they have it..........the court wouldn't hear the case otherwise........which side is telling the truth and what the court decides to do remains to be seen.

This one doesn't look like playing out quickly and potentially leaves Browne out in the cold and in need of a fight.

Re: Lucas Browne vs Ruslan Chagaev
Lucas Browne doesn't look any closer to clinching the title fight with Ruslan Chagaev.
Chagaev's promoter, Terek Box Event, and its principal Timur Dugazaev, have issued a press release stating that "there will be no rematch between Chagaev and Oquendo" and that Dugazaev will "sue Oquendo in Moscow for returning the purse as stated in the contract."
In response to the press release, Oquendo's lawyer, Judd Burstein, has requested a conference with Judge Abrams for permission to make a motion to have the Court appoint a private prosecutor to go after Terek and Dugazaev for criminal contempt.
Meanwhile Browne who was all set to fight Chagaev for the title is left twiddling his thumbs and probably soon in need of an opponent.

Re: Lucas Browne vs Ruslan Chagaev

Surely it is either an Oquendo rematch for Chagaev or the overdue Browne purse bid?

Re: Lucas Browne vs Ruslan Chagaev
Chagaev will fight on June 27th in Germany in an optional defence against an as yet unnamed opponent BEFORE he fights Browne.
The word is the Browne vs Chagaev fight, should Chagaev beat TBA first, will take place in either Moscow or Grozny.

Re: Lucas Browne vs Ruslan Chagaev
Rick Hatton has confirmed Lucas Browne has been paid stand aside money :
Hatton Promotions has issued a statement to clarify Chagaev’s team "explicitly stated they wished Ruslan to make an optional defense first as they had an outstanding TV commitment".
This has been agreed to on the basis Browne received financial compensation to “step aside”, with a view to the mandatory contest between Browne and Chagaev still happening this summer. The optional defense has already been delayed and is now being set for June 27.

Re: Lucas Browne vs Ruslan Chagaev
Ruslan Chagaev will defend his WBA title against 31-1-1 Francesco Pianeta in Germany, July 11th. After paying his mandatory, Lucas Browne, step aside money.
It makes a total mockery of the WBA, having installed Browne as Chagaev's mandatory and giving them 30 days or a purse bit to get the fight made.

Re: Lucas Browne vs Ruslan Chagaev
Attorneys for Fres Oquendo have asked a federal court to hold boxing promotional company CCC Terek in contempt of court because CCC Terek has arranged for Ruslan Chagaev to defend his WBA title against Francesco Pianeta in Germany.
Oquendo alleges CCC Terek still owes him $785,000 for the first Chagaev fight. Oquendo also alleges the contract contained a clause which would allow Oquendo-- the challenger, and not even the mandatory challenger-- to demand a rematch.

It's all become far too bloody complex. It does piss me off that fight contracts aren't concise enough to be understood and aren't signed in good faith.bennyaha1 wrote:Chagaev stated that the contract must be officiated under Moscow High CourtLike a Boss wrote:Attorneys for Fres Oquendo have asked a federal court to hold boxing promotional company CCC Terek in contempt of court because CCC Terek has arranged for Ruslan Chagaev to defend his WBA title against Francesco Pianeta in Germany.

Re: Lucas Browne vs Ruslan Chagaev
Square Ring Promotions and Hitz Boxing have announced District Court Judge Ronnie Abrams for the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York issued a 41-page final opinion and order in Oquendo vs. Terek Box Event (Case no. 14-cv-9835) awarding Oquendo damages and interest in excess of $800,000 against Chagaev's promoter, Terek Box Event.
Also, a permanent injunction enjoining Terek from, among other things, "promoting or managing Ruslan Chagaev in any bout for the World Boxing Association ("WBA") World Heavyweight Championship or in any bout at which his WBA championship would be at stake, other than such a bout between Fres Oquendo and Mr. Chagaev."
Have to wonder where that leaves Chagaev scheduled bout against Francesco Pianeta in July???

Way to complex. Probably won't happen until next year. But I think Browne can win. Chagaev looks horrible.

I feel from Lucas Browne having to wait so long after being made mandatory

He is getting paid to wait. At least if we can believe what is being reported. But Browne would have been far better off fighting Chagaev instead of waiting.bennyaha1 wrote:I feel from Lucas Browne having to wait so long after being made mandatory
