Amateues have weigh-ins every day of a tournament. You just physically can't cut as much weight as for one professional bout and keep it for 3-4 days.
Also, as far as I know, Golovkin started his adult amateur career as a junior welter. Not sure about Ward.

Amateur classes also go 152-165-178, so fighting at 165 as an amateur, which someone would have to do even if they weighed only 152.1, doesn't necessarily mean you'd be physically well-suited to 168 as a pro.

Agree with the latter - I think if he keeps on smashing over whoever is available fighting 4 times a year, and keeps calling people out, the public will buy into him - fans like fighters who are busy and who destroy their opponents, they won't be megafights, but that's about the only way I see him getting the fights he wants.
Yes, this nuthugger stuff is really boring - and only happens on the current scene, which unfortunately seems to have more than it's fair share of dysfunctional characters.
The term is definitely not limited to boxrec. It's widespread in many sports forums & even increasingly popular in political debate forums (where I spend a lot more time than sports forums). Like any faddish word, it will diminish in time...
As for GGG, I think his popularity would skyrocket if he could win a major world title belt above 160. I could see him winning world titles at 168 & 175, which would also open up doors for fights with Ward, Stevenson & maybe even Kovalev.. All the recent great non-HWs have pushed it to another level by moving up in weight: Floyd, Pac, Oscar, Leonard, Hearns, Duran, etc.
If GGG really craves a great fistic legacy, he needs to do the same...especially because of the lack of solid comp at 160!!
I know Nuthugger isn't just on boxrec. What I meant that it only occurs on the American part of the forum (current scene) - generally because almost every thread there gets hijacked and turned into a bitter dispute between two or more individuals where insults are hurled around like saveloys at a bitch fight in Doncaster at kicking out time.

making excuses" not to fight Golovkin. I rather think that boxers completely ignore Golivkin and don't mention him or bring him up at all. Any time a boxer mentions his name it's because an interviewer will have already brought him 3 G, and they can't get out of not talking about him then.
That's only my opinion, like.

GGG HBO AND HIS PEOPLE HAVE DONE A GOOD JOB DECEIVING PEOPLE INTO BEALIVING GGG IS THIS BEAST THAT EVERYONES DUCKING. THE FACT IS, ITS HIS PROMOTER CREATING THIS BUZZ through the media WITH NO INTENTIONS OF DOING serious BUSINESS WITH THE TOP GUYS OUT THERE UNTIL GGG BUILDS HIS BREAND AND CAN ACTUALLY SELL.. SO FOR NOW WE WILL CONTINUE TO SEE GGG FIGHT A BUNCH OF 2nd tier fighters with a lotmore of this ducking talk that actually doesn't really exist.

He had ducked a few before GGG and it came as little surprise. But in hindsight it was a smart move.

Froch went from "If i fight again, it will be Golovkin" & "DeGale not interesting enough" to "If i fight again, its DeGale or Golovkin, in THAT order.

He even invented an inexisting catch-weight offer from GGG, even though both Loefler and Hearn say that nobody has ever talked about a catch-weight.
