Perfect example is midlands light heavy title ricky summers has been trying to get a match for ages with no joy.

These challenge belts could be really good if they keep a degree of quality with the matching and if somebody actualy bothers defending them[/quote

I think you will find that Ricky was offered Arfan Iqbal but nothing came of it
I dont think weel see arfan at light heavy again. At the moment there isnt anyone i think. so this kind of belt if done propelry could be good for situations like that

I like that they've replaced the masters. As long as they keep it over 10 rounds with no bronze or silver then no qualms from me

Being as it's been introduced by the board I don't think there will be any silver bronze or international belts etc the masters titles owner introduced these purely as a cash cow

I am against the proliferation of meaningless titles from the sanctioning bodies, genre: WBC Baltic Union, WBO European; etc... but I never really had a problem with the Masters titles because they were basically a hook for a promoter to hang a small hall show on. The casual punters always like to see a belt awarded at the end of the fight but true fight fans know that they don't count towards the rankings and that they are basically a trinket. If this Challenge belt is in a similar vein then I have no objection to its existence...

This is actually not a title. It is a "challenge belt" where a fight happens and that's it. No defences as there is no holder. Personally as it stands I cannot see me staging them. My understanding is that the fees are exactly the same as for the masters £250 for sanctioning and £250 to buy the belt.

So why have the board invented it then mate. Will they mandate these fights or is it at the promoter's will.

Promoters will. Anyone can challenge anyone and then a day later someone else can challenger someone else. In theory you could have a challenge fought under the same weight 365 days a year if there were shows each day. The board did not invent it. They merely approved an idea by one particular promoter and let him run it.

With only 2 versions rather than 6 as was the case with Masters belts and people selling them as 'Challenge Belt' fights rather than using the word Championship I think the Challenge belts are great, creating an incentive for lower level boxers and allowing small shows to have a trophy up for grabs.
I would have been pleased to win one.

I agree Lee. I don't think they have devalued boxing at all. More often than not its a competitive fight too.

Would be great if boxrec recognised the title, not in the titles category but just on the boxers profile.

Same here - I like the idea.

As you say, it is likely to be evenly matched

Dunno.
Perhaps it’s an effort to get the area belts more active.

Oh ok but I don’t see how it will get the area titles more active coz the vast majority who fight for the challenge belt are deemed not good enough to be considered for an area title challenge tbh

Best guess I can come up with.
There definitely seems to have been a rise in the number of area and English level contests.

I think it’s due to a conflict between the board and the promotor who runs the challenge belts perhaps the board weren’t happy with the fact that the guy is making a profit out of it

No idea.
I do know that the belt is half the price if you buy it direct from JC
