IT'S THE BEST WORLD TITLE IN THE HISTORY OF THE WORLD!!!!
Yes, the same design - the WBUv version is nothing like the original designCazelo wrote:It is the same belt as the one Hatton had thought isn't it? By that I mean the design?LucaDiCaro wrote:The World Boxing Union created by Jon Robinson was in my view THE World Boxing Championship - OK, as someone not from the boxing world at that time, I'm sure that's because nearly every World title fight on UK TV at that time was WBU.
As someone on here has pointed out there are currently two versions, more or less, the German version was always known as the WBUv and the version I am involved with is the American owned version
That aside the reason I became involved is for a more nostalgic reason, or romantic as those that know me well would say. The WBU was the first World Championship organisation that was created and based right here in the UK and I wanted to bring it back home.
Unfortunately the current owners were not willing to sell it to me, however they were willing to license me the European rights.
I am proud to be associated with the WBU and even prouder to have so many former WBU champions involved with WBU Europe and what's more I will not give up trying to get the WBU back here as well as build it into a universally approved Championship that the top boxers would be proud to compete for.

but I see the slagging the titles get but I'm just wondering why pregrudge or trash a young prospect or even a contender at the end of there careers the chance to have a nice belt and be a world champion.
the wbf (world boxing Federation there is a few wbf's) the iba and the ibo are great run organisations.
particularly the ibo which has some big namesas there world champions.
Roy jones has won a host of theese miner titles and good on him or anyone else trying to make a living and get some belts for the mantelpiece.
it wasn't so long ago the BBB of C was happy for Ricky Hatton to have the wbu belt and defend it 12 or 13 times
What a pile of utter wank that website is. Pretty Vacant, and the rankings were done on the back of a fag packet, with a few names chucked in to make it look legit.Wales wrote:How are the rankings compiled?
Few eyebrow raisers in there. None moe than Bard Pitt being #7 in cruiser weight division!

They include people like Allan Green, who hasn't fought since 2013, and Brian Magee who hasn't fought since 2012. I'm sure there are other names included that have retired/given up/died...Dan Dares wrote:What a pile of utter wank that website is. Audley Harrison won the WBF title and even he doesn't call himself a former world champion. That's testament to the legitimacy of the belt!Crease wrote: but for fringe fighters People like Audley Harrison or David Price could really make a go of it, provided the don't get too carried away and stick to fighting a lower standard of opposition..
Yet the WBF Title is even more obscure that the WBU Title.Wales wrote:Audley Harrison won the WBF title and even he doesn't call himself a former world champion. That's testament to the legitimacy of the belt!
How would people rank the titles going down the list?Crease wrote:Yet the WBF Title is even more obscure that the WBU Title.Wales wrote:Audley Harrison won the WBF title and even he doesn't call himself a former world champion. That's testament to the legitimacy of the belt!
Put the British (or even Southern Area) champs in against them and they win hands down against the WBU. The WBU are not even recognised on boxrec.Cazelo wrote:

Following the big 4, the IBO is quite respected. Then it would be WBU I'd imagine

The American version is owned, I believe, by Don Moose Lewis which rings alarm bells immediately.Riddick Blowe wrote:LolLucaDiCaro wrote:The World Boxing Union created by Jon Robinson was in my view THE World Boxing Championship - OK, as someone not from the boxing world at that time, I'm sure that's because nearly every World title fight on UK TV at that time was WBU.

Credit where credits due - they checked this late replacement weren't knocked out in the last 7 daysexpe wrote:Last night in Canada, Walter Rojas, who has been knocked out by Jamie Conlan and Kevin Satchell amongst others, has never been past 4 rounds, has just one win against an opponent with a winning record(2-1), lost his last two fights in the first round and has spent his career fighting between minimumweight and super flyweight, fought Tyson Cave for the WBU "World" Super Bantamweight title. Mr Di Caro describes him as seriously tough, which I suppose is fair considering how often he gets knocked out and comes back for more.

Back in early - mid 2000s loads of people thought Ricky Hatton was world champion. After all they saw him defending the title on sky sports on multiple occassions. It suited Sky and Warren to keep up the facade and milk the publicsteve689 wrote:LucaDiCaro wrote:The World Boxing Union created by Jon Robinson was in my view THE World Boxing Championship - OK, as someone not from the boxing world at that time, I'm sure that's because nearly every World title fight on UK TV at that time was WBUSay what?
Harsh, Walter had managed almost 2 rounds of boxing in his last two contests. That more than qualifies him as a tough, world title challenger. Guys who got ko'd 7 days previously can only fight for European Titles.questionmore wrote:Credit where credits due - they checked this late replacement weren't knocked out in the last 7 daysexpe wrote:Last night in Canada, Walter Rojas, who has been knocked out by Jamie Conlan and Kevin Satchell amongst others, has never been past 4 rounds, has just one win against an opponent with a winning record(2-1), lost his last two fights in the first round and has spent his career fighting between minimumweight and super flyweight, fought Tyson Cave for the WBU "World" Super Bantamweight title.
