No one goes after the matchmaker for explanations regarding pull outs, refunds etc.

This particular show was all about Haye. The undercard only existed to satisfy Dave, they needed something else to show when Haye stopped DeMori early.

Its unfortunate that there were pullouts, but these things happen week in week out and can be forecast.

Steve Goodwin has provided a more than reasonable explanation. Credit to him for that. To carry on going after him just shows why most promoters, match makers etc do not come on forums and also highlights the naivety of some fans.
I agree. Seems a bit harsh for a promoter to get stick for a show where they're not a promoter.
I'm a bit green around the gills so to speak but who then is accountable or who should have tried to resolve it?

Seems so unfair on the lad to me

Haye was the promoter so ultimately it comes down to him, he might have put other people in place to run things but he's the man with the promoters license and Hayemaker Promotions were paying the fighters.

I'm sorry but i wont blame a guy who was 3 days out from fight night after 3.5 years out of the ring. He had many stresses to deal with which is why he put a background team in place.

Maybe a bit more clarity and definition of roles was required. I feel for Singleton's fans, i feel for Mr. Goodwin after going in circles on here, but i also look at it with the viewpoint that David Haye didn't do anything with the intention to p*ss fans off on his first night back.... may have turned out that way but im certain it wasn't intentional.

Best gesture is to get Singleton on a nice undercard slot for his next show, let him shift a few of his own tickets and go from there.

If he doesn't want to worry about it he shouldn't be self promoted. As the promoter the responsibility lies with him, if the staff he put in place fucked it up, then he's hired the wrong people and it would have been him paying Singleton, so he should have had some say in the decision.

Understandably I don't think they want anything to do with Haye again, he's actually supposed to provide a new date and venue for the fight with O'Donnell and Singleton has said he's not interested unless another promoter puts it on, preferably Hearn.

I think the problem lies in the fact singletons fans were refused refunds on there tickets and shane offered to box for peanuts to keep the fans happy and show would still have made a profit with the 100 or so who had brought tickets but got told yr not needed and no refunds, for a show which most of the people from shanes hometown 200 miles away probably wouldnt have been going too 3 weeks after xmas if he wsnt on the bill

It sounds like a pretty shit way to treat a boxer and boxing fans.

The problem with a boxer who promotes himself is that they only give a fornicate about one person.

Also, although Haye might have been the promoter on paper he would have a structure around him who takes care of these issues. There is no way Haye would get involved in that level if decision making, never mind so close to his own fight.

Somebody somewhere in that structure should/would have had the delegated authority to sort these kind if things out - as has already been said this kind of thing is hardly unique so the team should gave been able to sort this out and arranged a more agreeable outcome.

That is proper tight, I'd understand more if it was a small hall show and that money was needed to break even, with the TV there they should have refunded the ticket money.

I suspect Jon, you mean when a promoter repeatedly attempts to steal ticket money without the intention of putting you on a show.
Quite different to a fight falling through!
IF refunds were refused (and people saying so on the internet doesn't mean it is true) then that is a poor show, but still not Steve Goodwins issue to deal with or defend.
It seems that people on here believe that Singleton should have been kept on the show and that Goodwin should have 'just got anyone' to make it happen.... as chief support.... on an arena show.... on terrestrial television....

They might have used Haye's name but it was Salter Bro's Entertainment who were the promoters. As people have rightly said Hayes not going to be involved in such stuff a few days out from a fight.

Think you have a point Lee nobody seems to care if its an away fighter on a small hall bill.

Saying that it doesn't make it right if it happens often or not.

Exactly this for me. Been to plenty of fight nights where I've wanted to see a particular person or fight, and there's been a pull out. It's annoying as f--k, but it happens and is just one of them things you have to deal with. I can't think of a ticket I've bought that doesn't include a disclaimer that bouts may be subject to change.

Refunds were refused Lee this case it wasnt something that had to be done or legally obliged to be done, but when someone has more than covered tickets and brought profit to a show its usualy the right thing and the usual thing to do to keep him on the show, especialy in the circumstances here (no refunds, fans travelling a distance) I agree dont think its goodwins problem but it was out of order how singleton and his fans were treated

Its very very rare that an away fighter has done a few thousand pounds worth of tickets which were then refused refunds altogether.

That is a shame in that case. Is it correct that the boxers handled no tickets and all were bought direct?
That adds a layer of complication.

Fair point Jon, I do think thats kind of a different issue these people should have been given refunds.....thats definitely down to the promoter which as I say for me is not someone who put together the undercard or even a fighter whos name its under whos fighting on the card its those Salter Bros

The fact was he was the matchmaker, not the promoter. He may well be the manager of some or even most of the undercard fighters but he still wasn't the promoter and was never advertised, or claimed to be the promoter.

The promoter was Haye and those two brothers. They are the ones who are solely responsible for everything to do with ticket sales, venue issues, gloves, payments and refunds.

Fir full definitions of these key roles, look on the bbbofc website.

If a boxer isn't happy about the way the promoter (Haye and the Chuckle Brothers) dealt with him or treated him he can complain via his area council who can then take it up with the stewards.

If customers feel they have been ripped off they can contact trading standards or any of the consumer groups and take it up.

As previously mentioned, this is not unusual. It happens from time to time, but it is not the fault of the matchmaker. Steve Goodwin has given everyone the option of sending him a message with your telephone number so he can ring you and tell you probably what I've just said. The man cannot do any more than that.

Give him a break now.

I see. In which case a poor show but still not Steve Goodwins error.
Thank goodness I'm rubbish and will never be in such a position!
